balanceok Posted April 25, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2004 We saw on TV a story about bear watching on "Ketchikan Island." Does anyone know where I can find more information on this? We will be in Ketchikan in June on the HAL Zaandam. This sounds like a great excursion but is not offered by HAL. Rare Coral Posted April 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2004 Princess offers 2 bear watching excursions but they don't start until mid July. Probably the same thing with HAL. I believe they don't offer them sooner because the salmon isn't running down the streams in May and June and this is why the bears come to the location. Budget Queen Posted April 26, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2004 You are too early for bear tours out of Ketchikan. Perhaps consider going to Pack Creek via float plane out of Juneau- Alaska Fly and Fish is an operator I believe??
kimba595 Posted April 26, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2004 I will be in Ketchican on July 20th. I'd love to do the bear watch in Neets Bay, but would hate to shell out the money for my husband and I and not see bears! If I go through Princess, they offer two time slots, 11-2 & 12:30-3:30. Which one would be better??
judytata11 Posted April 26, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2004 We went to Neets Bay in August last year.We saw plenty of bears, red fox and mt. goats. The day was clear and the view during the flight was spectacular! I asked on the way if the chances were good that we would see the bears and they said they hadn't missed yet! My alltime favorite excursion.
kimba595 Posted April 26, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2004 What's the better time to see bears? 11-2 or 12:30-3:30. The time might factor into this too? Kim
Budget Queen Posted April 27, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Mid July is early for Neets Bay. Prime is August. Better would be Anan.
