Radiance of the Seas.....Past - Present - Future

Am curious whether "in the dog house" means the same thing in America, as it does in Australia?

Here it means you are in trouble, usually from your partner.

(Revitalisation Dry Dock video)

Yes, that is what it also means here.

Hi all

Sorry if this has been asked before; I searched this thread and couldn't find the answer!

We are thinking of booking an outside cabin cat G on deck 4; we prefer cabins located mid to aft.

Can anyone advise if you hear noise in these cabins from either deck 5 above or from the venues on deck 4?

Would be keen to hear people's experiences in particular cabins.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

I had CAT G--4510 on my 14 day Radiance Cruise in September. I love that cabin so much that I booked the same one for my Jewel Cruise in October.

You are right around the corner from the front elevators which are half as busy as the centrum elevators. You are below part of the theater but it is extremely quiet. I would stay forward as there only 8 cabins forward/starboard side. Don't stay to close to centrum as the lobby bars can get noisy at night. Stay forward! You can walk down the hall to the centrum then the dining room. You go up one flight of stairs to the theater and shops.

Go up 2 flights and you are at the Casino, then Centrum, Schooner Bar and Colony Club.

And you can take the front elevators up to Deck 11, walk through the Solarium, outdoor pool and you're at the Windjammer Cafe. For me it's the best location of any cabin I've experienced.

Can you tell I like Deck 4 forward?

Good choice, you will not be bothered by anyone joining the Balcony Club:eek:

Let's call what I heard today a rumor. But I was told that the Chef's Table will be priced at $95 a person. And the other ship's with this restaurant will also have the price raised to $95. Maybe this has already been mentioned and I missed it. Has anyone else heard this?

Gina

We're sailing on July 1st and the Chef's Table is listed for $75pp.

Menu

The Chef's Table menu presents a five-course meal selected and prepared by the Chef de Cuisine. The gourmet dining experience also includes an exceptional wines paired with each course.

Where You'll Find it

The Chef's Table is featured on our Oasis class ships and Radiance of the Seas®.

Dress Suggestion

We suggest smart casual attired – jackets for men, dresses or pantsuits for women. On formal evenings onboard, formal attire is also appropriate in the restaurant; which includes suits and ties or tuxedos for men and cocktail dresses for women.

Serving

Dinner 7:30 PM

Please note: Opening and closing times vary by ship.

Reservations

All guests must be over the age of 21. Reservations are recommended; please allow two hours for dining. You can begin the reservation process now or once onboard through RCTV* in your stateroom or call the restaurant directly. Telephone numbers can be found in your stateroom. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be charged a minimum of $10 USD.

Costs

A nominal fee of $75 USD applies per dining guest, including gratuities.

I heard it again today from another person. Chef's table is expected to be $95 on all ships. Anyone who pre-books at $75 will be locking in the lower price.

Of course there were multiple sources saying there would be a Johnny Rockets on board and that was nothing more than a rumor.

I have one more person to ask who should be the most reliable.

Thanks Alan...you certainly are a good advocate for deck 4 forward!:D

This is really useful info and will help me in my decision-making, thanks again.:)

what kind of music was played as you set sail from Vancouver towards Alaska? !

Haven't read ahead to see if you got an answer but when we departed Vancouver in June 2010 they played 'I'm sailing Away' by Styx. Now everytime I hear that song it brings back a wonderful memory.

Thank you ! I appreciate this thread. It was the determining factor for picking Radiance of the Seas as our first cruise ship. We loved it so much the family voted to to it again in Summer 2012.

She is our favorite also.:) Be prepared for some WOW when you board next summer as she will not look anything like she did when you first cruised on her.

I would suggest that anyone who plans to eat in Chef's Table or Chops, go ahead and pre-book and pay for your reservations if they are available on your cruise. It's likely that there will be a price change in both venues.

I can understand Chef's Table, but why would they increase Chops? After eating three times at Chops on Enchantment and ordering from the new menu..........I really can't justify a price increase.

The entree portions have been downsized, which for us was a good thing, and there are not that many appetizers/soups/salads/entrees to select from.

Apparently they think they need to raise it to cover their costs. And because they think they can get it. Carnival also charges $30 for their steakhouse which isn't as good as Chops.

Cover their costs over a scaled down menu? What next?

Then Chops must be awesome! I went to the steakhouse on Carnival Spirit and thought it was worth every penny of the cost! It was really good :D

Now I am really (really) looking forward to Chops.

I didn't think CLL's steakhouse was bad. Just not a good. And the location was horrible with no atmosphere. I found it odd to watch the glass elevators. sometimes with kids goofing around, going up and down in view of the table. And to have the cruise directors announcements piped in, right down to the bingo announcement, somehow took away from it all. This was on Spirit.

I think you will enjoy Chops. Get the filet. It can't be downsized since it's based on ounces. And they will bring you more side dishes than you can eat. If you are full after dinner, order your dessert to go. I was surprised they brought the creme brulee to the table in full flame. :)

You had that experience on Spirit? I was on Spirit.

They must have moved locations - I was there last May (2010) I had a gorgeous location on the top level with ocean view ... but anyway, it doesn't matter. I understand what you are saying ... and I truly am excited to try Chops now. (Just wish they had escargot on the menu!) :D

No, it's the same location. After dark, there is no water view. Our friends didn't see the elevator...their back was to it. I just like the more private enclosed atmosphere of Chops where there are no outside announcements piped in.

We really enjoyed our meal at Chops on our short Coastal Cruise. I had the small Filet which is more than enough -- especially if you have an appetizer and a salad. If I remember correctly we only did two sides this time and that was perfect. And the creme brulee flambe was a nice surprise and very good.

It's also good to see Edwin as manager. I'd bet Patti or Gina can tell me where he worked before. He remembered us but it wasn't from Chops. Perhaps Portofino when they did the Diamond/Diamond Plus breakfast there???

Edwin is a jack of all trades and a master of all as well. :) Since we haven't been on since December of 2009, he was alternating between Chops and the MDR as a Head Waiter. He was also very visible in the WJ for lunch. Edwin has an excellent memory...........especially if you are a repeat guest.

He's been Manager of Portofino also, but I think he likes Chops the best and that was his capacity when we were last on board. Jeanne was the Manager of Portofino back in 2009 and I believe she still is. Gina has been on more recently and can tell us.

Ahhh, Edwin, he is one of our favorites on the Radiance. A few cruises ago, I will never forget one morning in the WJ I asked for a whole banana, he said he would get me one. So about 30 to 45 minutes goes by and no banana. All of a sudden he came around the corner and when he saw me he suddenly remembered the banana and just about fell to his knees in embarrassment!

If they raise the cost of Chops, they have lost us as a customer.

Its really, really good, but can't justify a higher cost with a new smaller menu.
