Fll Marriot Hollywood Beach vs. Lago Mar

We have stayed at Lago Mar and really enjoyed it. I really can't speak for the Marriott. Prior to staying a Lago Mar we used to stay at the Hyatt.

We enjoyed the hotel. The beach was beautiful and we enjoyed the fact that we could see cruise ships in the ocean as they were arriving/leaving. We thought the restaurant was very nice and enjoyed the other amenities. It is located in a very quiet location.

That is a good question.

Pluses for Lago Mar: pool, beach, cruise ship departures, beautiful hotel.

Cons for Lago Mar: Expensive to eat, must get in your car to go anywhere, quite a walk to go anywhere.

Pluses for Marriott, Hollywood Beach: Beach, Broadwalk, choice of nearbye restuarants, all within walking distance right on the broadwalk. Can still see cruise ships depart, bicycle rentals, no need to drive anywhere.

Con's: Pool is directly on the broadwalk, where all the people walk by. (I did not think that was good planning). I didnot think the service in the outdoor restuarant was very good. The bar was great.

I hope this helps with your choice.

Lago Mar's a resort, the Marriott is a hotel.

The Lago Mar's rooms are susbstantially larger, the food is better, the pool is larger, the beach is less populated, the resort is subdued and yes it's a lot more expensive then the Marriott.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Marriott and Hollywood Beach is in my opinion the nicest beach in South Flrida, but the Marriott is not in the same league as the Lago Mar. It would be like comparing beer to champagne. ;)

I had only been to one of the rooms at the Lago Mar. It was large, one bedroom facing the pool. With a lanai. The pool is beautiful.

The rooms at the Marriott are just that. There is a small balcony and all rooms have a ocean view. The are furnished beautiful.

Bequila, That is a good discription, one is a resort and one is a hotel. Never thought of it that way.

Thanks for all your responses. I'll take it from Bequia and say I'm having a hard time deciding beacause sometimes I like beer and sometimes I like champagne! But I just never know what I am in the mood for!

LOL...but at the Lago you can get both:D

We stayed at the Hollywood Beach Marriott post-cruise March 2006.

It is a resort, albeit a small one, not a hotel ... and the rooms are fabulous. Large & comfy, great bathrooms. (We had an end room with two balconies.) Service was superb, restaurant excellent. There is a special lounge for concierge level rooms. It was very nice. It had food, computers, tv, plenty of space, and a concierge.

Don't remember what we paid ... it wasn't cheap. We travel quite a bit and are extremely picky about where we stay. We like to get a good deal as much as anybody, but we don't sacrifice quality over cost.

The beach was great, people around but not overly crowded ... we don't like to be too secluded, and there was just the right amount of restaurants & shops around us. The pool area was a little small, but with the beach right there - who needs it??

We stayed 4 days, it was very easy to zip around - went to Gulfstream Park (horse racing) and the Hard Rock Casino (Anna Nicole Smith) a few times ... went all up & down the coast. Had a blast!
