Maybe this will help clear up some questions. I just went to BOA online and logged in. Click on LOGO on bottom left corner.

It will take you to an NCL website and answer most questions. I have

printed these.

http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPages.html?pageId=Compassrewards

What about my NCL MasterCard is changing?

NCL is replacing the current Compass Rewards program with the brand new NCL WorldPoints program to offer you more benefits than ever. This new reward program will bring you the flexibility of Freestyle Cruising®, with more redemption options for NCL items. Plus, you'll have the option to redeem your points for other travel awards, merchandise, cash-back and retail gift certificates.

Will my account number change?

No, your card will remain exactly the same and you can continue to use your NCL MasterCard as usual. On January 1, 2009, you will just begin earning NCL WorldPoints rather than Compass Rewards.

When my reward program changes will my interest rate or other credit card terms change?

No, the changes will be made to the reward program only. Any changes to your credit card terms and conditions would be communicated to you in writing by Bank of America.

When will I receive more information about the NCL WorldPoints rewards program?

Information on the new program will be available on this website, on your on-line statement and on your mailed NCL credit card statements in December. Stay tuned for more exciting details to come.

What happens to my Compass Rewards?

NCL is ending the Compass Reward program and as stated in the program terms and conditions, you will be issued a Compass Reward certificate(s) based on your December 31, 2008 point balance. Your final certificate(s) will arrive by mail on or before January 31, 2009. You will have one year from date of issue to apply the certificates to a booking, but you will be able to use them towards any NCL cruise open for sale. Compass Rewards points will not be transferred to the WorldPoints program.

How many certificates will I receive?

Based on your points balance as of December 31, 2008, you will receive certificates in usual increments of 100 and 500 points toward a stateroom upgrade and/or a discount on your cruise.

What do I need to do to get my certificates?

No action is required by you. Certificates will be automatically sent to you after termination of the Compass Rewards program and you will receive them in the mail by January 31, 2009. Certificates will have one-year expiration and cannot be extended further. However, they can be used toward any NCL cruise that is open for sale.

What if my billing cycle ends mid-month?

You will continue accruing Compass Rewards points through December 31, 2008, regardless of when your December billing cycle ends.

What is the new NCL WorldPoints card?

With the new NCL WorldPoints card you will earn double points for every dollar spent on NCL and one point for all other purchases. You will also have exclusive opportunities to redeem points on special NCL offers such as cruises, on-board credits, upgrades and much more.

Will my card change?

No. You can continue to use your NCL credit card as usual. The only change will be that you will begin earning WorldPoints rather than Compass Rewards points as of January 1, 2009.

Hope this helps Wayne

How do I check my point balance? I logged into my BoA account and see the card but I can't find where the link is to check my points. Am I missing something?

Edit: Nevermind.. it's on my statement. Man, I just got this card a few months ago and only have 43 points. What a bummer.

It should be somewhere on your statement. Look at the most recent one

Compass Rewards points will not be transferred to the WorldPoints program.

The letter made it sound like they were going to convert your Compass Points to WorldPoints. According to this post, that's just not true. What they are really saying is that you'll get what you have as of January 1 and after that you're automatically enrolled in the "New and Improved" (NOT!)WorldPoints program........

The letter states, "As of January 1, 2009, your Norwegian Cruiseline Compass Rewards credit card will automatically be converted to the NCL WorldPOints credit card program. There is no action required by you. You may continue to use your NCL credit card and you account number will remain the same."

They wish. I just cashed in another $1,000 worth of certificates. I've got about 190 points on my last statement. There is no way I'm going to accumulate enough points for another $500 certificate in the next two billing cycles. I just don't want to charge $10,333.33 on this card. And the "Upgrade Certificates" are WORTHLESS. Heck I get one of those every other month from Latitudes. And NCL is offering free upgrades within category on most of their cruises these days anyway!

I'm cancelling.

The only question is, what is the best alternative. I don't think anything else comes close except possibly the AMEX Blue at 5% cash back. But a lot of the folks I do business with and pay bills with won't accept AMEX.

:(

The Princess card is pretty lame in comparison, but seems to be about the best of the cruise line cards. The Hilton Honors card isn't bad, but it seems limited. Besides, with recent events in the economy, I've got a feeling that hoteliers are going to be very motivated to get people staying at their hotels and prices will drop drastically.

I'll be looking for other options. And I'm open to your suggestions.

Thanks all!

I guess it beats my other idea for a second career.

"Would you like a smiley face? Here's your cart. Have a nice day!"

I'm thinking that after a 9 hour shift at WallyWorld, I could put together enough for an Early Bird Special at Denny's. Hey, maybe I could get a job there washing dishes, too!!

The way things are going in the stock market, this might not be that far fetched!!!

Thanks, Paine Webber!

You can apply through either the American Express or Hilton Honors web sites. Also since not all merchants accept American Express you can also apply for a Citi Hilton Honors Visa; though the benefits are not as good.

American Express: https://www143.americanexpress.com/cards/home.do?pmccode=117#CARDS/117/0/0/-1

Hilton Honors AMEX: http://hhonors1.hilton.com/en_US/hh/about/creditamex.do

I agree with your comments about the stock market. I think any hopes I had of retiring have gone right down the toilet with the value of the market.

I'm not outgoing enough to be a WallyWorld greeter, however. Anyone else have any great suggestions for those of us who are going to be looking for a job when we're 70?

You could always hire your self on a ship, then you would get all the free travel you could ever want.

Now you two really have me thinking.......Lost a full time job appx 10 yrs ago so obviously had to do Something. Went to school and got a dealer's license for blackjack at a casino (license still good until next year). Better than minimum wage - work 60 minutes and get a 20 minute break! If you're good with math and don't have arthritis, might be an option. Hmmmmmmm - I could retire as a dealer on a cruise ship!!!!!!!! WOO HOO :D

Mr Tractor, I wouldn't cancel your credit card. It will hurt your credit score. I'm going to keep the account open but not use the card. Or maybe use it on rare occasion for small purchases just to keep it active.

Well.... this is all very disappointing! Just returned from a cruise to Canada on the Jewel, to find this letter in my mail. I was hoping to continue to cruise for free or at least a huge discount for life! Ha! I guess there is no such thing as a free lunch... (or buffet).

Anyone do all the research on these and figure out which is best for those of us who only want to use the points to cruise? I am looking at the Discover Miles card, since American Express is not widely accepted.

There you go! I have a 2nd cousin who did that for several years. She'd work long-term temp assignments as a secretary, and when she got bored with that, then she'd pick up a contract on a ship. After about one contract, she was ready to go back home again. She did that for quite a while before she finally married at around 40.

I wouldn't trade my kids for a lifestyle like that, but as a retirement job....:D

How could canceling a credit card account possibly ruin a credit score?????

PE

Ruin is not accurate, but it's a fact that when you close a credit card, your credit report now shows that you're less credit worthy. So, say you have a $7,000 credit limit on your card. That credit that has been given to you shows companies that you have been "trusted" with that amount. Closing it may cause another credit company to not offer you credit. It's a crazy concept, but it is true.

One of the TV shows this morning was talking about the best/worst cards out there. Worst was some card that has several hundred $$ in yearly fees!!??? Best was an AE cash back card.

As has been said, AE (unless things have changed since we had one years ago) isn't accepted everywhere. I'm going to check and see if I can use it in all the places I'd want to. If not, DH says to just stick with what we have as we would get something back eventually.

Any other 'good card' suggestions? Thanks!
