Any reason to book DIRECTLY with RCCL??

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I have a question......Is there any reason to book directly with RCCL? I have a reservation that I have booked with RCCL and I would like to transfer the reservation to "Delta Vacations" so that I can receive the 3,000 perk miles.

This is my 1st time cruising on RCCL, do you get anything special because you book directly with them. I'm sort of mad at them anyway, I booked the cruise and then a couple days later it went on sale and they would not give me the sale price.:(

Your thoughts!!

Thanks!!

The reason I book directly is to keep control of my reservation. If there is a price drop I just call and get it credited to my account, will Delta do that for you? If I cancel before final payment there area no charges, are there any with Delta? Are they available? Will they answer your questions/email/phone calls quickly? I know RCCL has people there at all hours and on the weekends.

We prefer booking directly with RCCL because it gives us "control" of our reservation. We would rather not rely on anyone else to make any changes to our reservation. It works for us.

They would not give you the sale price because it was probably for "new bookings only". If there is a normal price drop, you can call and get the lower price, which I have done 3 times.

You can book through Delta and get your miles, but if the $$ drops, I'm pretty sure they won't honor it or will charge you a fee.

I actually thought about booking through Delta too, but wanted the option of getting the lower price if it went down, so I didn't.

It's a gamble!!

Thanks for the answers.....That is a very good point about the price going down......It is still at the same price as when I reserved, so maybe it might go down!! Final Payment is August 4.

The "Sale" was for new reservations, I just figured since the reservation was about 48 hours old they would be fair......still gets me mad!!

Thanks again!

The airline mile agency that I inquired with..would not honor price drops and charged a cancellation fee. Their initial price was $50 higher than RCCL's price because they wouldn't honor past passenger discounts. (4 night cruise)The woman was firm, and generally unpleasant on the phone. But she was going to offer 1500 extra miles!!! No thanks. As others mentioned..it's a gamble. If it works out, then great. :D

Same here, they are always available, even on holiday weekends, some TA's are not and you may miss out on a good deal :)

They only show a limited amount of cabins on the website. If you book with RCI, you can call them and they will tell you what cabins are available. :)

I'm aware of that fact, but how does that lack of information award you better cabins when you have to ask for them? In other words they don't seem to be in hurry to make you aware of all the cabins that are available. I don't know how that translates into better? I'm glad they will divulge though!

The only thing I can think of is if a better stateroom becomes available and the TA isn't available for some reason I can make the change myself without having to contact the middleman. Also I wish Royal had a search engine on their web site specifically for stateroom availability such as Celebrity and NCL have. It would make things a lot easier for us control freaks. :)

Have you already made the final payment on the cruise? If so you cannot transfer it to anyone after final payment.

I use to book directly with RCCL.

But for the past 2 years I book with RCCL and then transferred my reservation to a cruise outlet specialist because they offered me $225 On Board Credit per cabin (I book 2). Plus they will honor price drops by RCCL.

The only downside for me is I can not talk with somone 24/7. It is during normal business hours. But the $400.00 credit was really nice to have on our cruise. My last booking they adjusted my rate twice after RCCL lowered the price.

Just remember either way it will be up to you to monitor the rates and call and ask for the adjustment.

Who can you talk with at RCL 24/7?

We switched to a travel agent because of her perks. She gave us a coupon book, we were supposed to get one for each cabin, but only received one, and she gave us all travel insurance. Although we didn't end up needing it, we would have purchased it and we saved that money.
