almostdoc Posted July 27, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2007 I was looking into taking a cruise on the millennium dec. 16, 2007. I was unsure about the itinerary. it goes to casa de campo, san juan, tortola, and labedee. we've been to san juan and didn't love it. any thoughts on the rest of the trip. it is a good price and we've never been on celebrity. we've been on the navigator to eastern caribbean, empress of the seas to bermuda, and sun princess to alaska. we really enjoyed them all. I'm in charge of picking the cruise for 8 of us including my husband, his brothers, wives, and in laws. We are in our 20's except for my in-laws. How does celebrity compare to my past cruising experience. We all traveled together on the navigator and really enjoyed it. Is there an extra cost to use the Thalassotherapy Pool and persian garden? It seemed like there was always food available on the sun princess and RCCL ships. Is that the same for Celebrity? Thanks for your help.
rollie Posted July 27, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2007 They don't call Casa de Campo, Casa de Crapo for nothing. I don't think it has much to offer. Now Tortola and Labadee are a different story. Both are great stops. Rollie
Schplinky Posted July 27, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2007 Labadee is one of my favourite stops it in the Caribbean. Torotola was dull and we realised later we should have booked an excursion. There is just a rustic villae at the pier.

I&J Cruisers Posted July 27, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 27, 2007 Schplinky, do you recall what kind of sore excursions are available in Tortola?
Schplinky Posted July 27, 2007 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2007 The big tours were for the baths at Virgin Gourda, which was a swimming thing and we're not big swimmers. Otherwise, no I don't know. There were a TON of drivers offering island tours for $20.
hajekfam Posted July 27, 2007 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2007 The thallassatherapy pool (spa pool) is free on M-class ships (the Millennium, Infinity, Constellaton and Summit). The Mercury and Galaxy have a charge for the T-pool as it is smaller (and more powerful) and actually located within the spa. There is a charge for the persian gardens. Celebrity has three types of dress for evenings (formal, informal and casual) and according to the daily evening dress is required in all public areas of the ship (except the pool deck) for the entire evening. A large majority of people follow or exceed the dress code. Food is available somewhere 24/7. Celebrity has assigned dining and two seatings for dinner. Breakfast and lunch are open seating in the dining room. They do have a buffet for breakfast (including a waffle station and fresh egg and omelet station) and lunch. Buffet breakfast is available till about lunchtime. The grill is open for lunch thru early evening. And there is a pizza station, a pasta station, and a salad station that is open from lunch through late in the evening. There is a specialty sandwich bar set up for lunchtime. Around 3 or 4pm, the buffet area is set up for casual tea - with finger sandwiches and pastries. Ice cream (made onboard the ship) is available in the afternoon. At dinner the buffet area is set up for alternative casual dining (reservations are required but can be made that same day and there is a $2 pp charge) which is table service and a limited menu (not the dining room menu). There is also a sushi bar that is open in the evening. There is a drink station in the buffet area that is open 24 hours for coffee and tea (check the daily for location). On M-class ships and the Century The Aqua Spa cafe serves healthy breakfasts, lunches, and dinners and is open till around 8pm. There is also a specialty restaurant (at additional charge - reservations required) which is open for dinner. There are only two midnight buffets on a seven night cruise - one is the grand buffet which is held on the last formal night and the other is held about mid cruise and is usually a fruit and sherbet buffet held poolside (Island Night with the band and activities). Other nights, Celebrity has gourmet bites - appetizers and small pastries passed around by waiters in the lounges and casino (you don't have to stop your late night activity - the food comes to you!). There are also croissants and pastries offered at the Cova cafe (or whatever the name of the coffee bar is now) in the morning and afternoon. There is a charge for drinks (including coffe and tea) there though - the pastries are free. Room service is available 24/7 and you can also order room service off the dining room menu during dining room hours. Some time ago, I had compiled a list of the things that have extra charges for another post. Extra charges for Celebrity: Soda & alcohol throughout the ship (sodas, bottled water, drinks, wine, beer, also includes the non-alcoholic specialty drinks - a soda card is available for purchase) Thallasatherapy pools on Mercury and Galaxy (free on M-class ships) Alternative casual dining for dinner - $2.00 per person Specialty restaruant on Millennium class ships and Century Acupuncture Drinks at the Cova Cafe including coffee and tea- Please note this refers to the Cova Cafe (coffee bar) only -regular coffee and tea are free at the buffet and restaurant. Spa treatments Beauty salon Yoga and Pilates classes Golf simulator on those ships that have it Excursions Items from mini bar in room Tips Purchases from the gift shops Photos Internet usuage Casino Laundry, Pressing, Dry Cleaning Small Selection of Items from Room Service - like a shrimp or other party tray if having a party in room -Regular Room service food is free Movies 'on demand' in your stateroom
I&J Cruisers Posted July 27, 2007 #8 Share Posted July 27, 2007 Thanks Schplinky. We aren't beach people either. I was wondering if there was anything intersting to see on Tortola.
