Smart Casual Night

Recommended Posts

How dressy is smart casual night? The RC booklet says "jacket for men". The guys in our group say they are not going to take a jacket. What do most guys wear on smart casual night?

I do not know what ship you are sailing, but most of the 7 day and under Caribbean cruises have done away with smart casual nights and now have just Formal and casual.

I did two weeks on the Navigator last September and there were no Smart Casual nights at all. ;)

If you post on here what ship you are on, maybe someone who just sailed it will post if they had them or not. :)

The Explorer didn't have them either. Formal and casual:)

Jewel had a couple of smart casual nights in Europe. We heard from a staffer that RCI has officially done away with smart casual, but since the brochures still mention them, especially in Europe, they had a couple so as not to make the pax feel that they had lugged their sport coats along for nothing. Then again, most men that I saw didn't bother with coats on any casual night, smart or otherwise.

For guys, it seems that you'll see mostly slacks with golf shirts, button-downs or "Tommy Bahama" style camp shirts. I wear the latter. It's pretty comfortable. Not being sloppy really is the idea. Within that, there's a lot of options.

It's been formal and casual for a while now. Even when they had it, you could not tell the difference by looking. Some folks dress up more (me) and some don't. You're going to see a bit of everything. Even on formal nights. So my best advice is, dress in a way that makes you comfortable, but neat and presentable. You'll fit right in. My husband is comfortable in a jacket and tie, others in polos and khakis.

Our seven night Southern Caribbean on July 17 had one smart casual nught, Ladies wore a lot of capris with nice tops or little jackets, sundresses, etc. Men, some in jackets, many in slacks with tailored shirts.
