TweedleDee Posted August 25, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Do you carry your purse around the ship with you, leave it in your room or leave it at home?
jp2001 Posted August 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I certainly bring my purse with me, I don’t leave it at home. In fact, I bring 4-5 different purses and a beach bag, each designed for different occasion. On the ship, I have a purse with me most of the time. You know, Freestyle daily, pen, sticky notes, S&S card, chewing gum, etc.. But sometimes I leave it in my cabin (Especially if I have a pocket to bring my S&S card because you need it for everything… the most important thing being to open the stateroom door). Shellbelle28 Posted August 25, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Do you carry your purse around the ship with you, leave it in your room or leave it at home? I bring a purse and I take it with me ashore, but I don't carry it around with me on the ship. I just put my key card in a pocket ot around my neck in a lanyard pouch (or hide it in my bra if I don't want to have a dorky thing around my neck with a nice dress). It's kind of nice not to have to worry about keeping track of a bag and I can usually survive for a while without a tissue, lipstick, aspirin or whatever else all I'm usually hauling around :D
Nasmas Posted August 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2004 No purse. I have a cigarette case with two openings. One for my cigs and the other for my room key. For formal nights, I have a little silk bag I use. I usually don't even take a purse on the plane.
Solo Cruiser Posted August 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I take a travel purse with me that has compartments for EVERYTHING. Around the ship, I have the billfold that can hold all my essentials plus my cigarette case and lighter and room card. The billfold has a detachable shoulder strap and is made from black microfiber so it looks good even for evening. Both of these items came from the Norm Thompson catalog. There are times when I use the water-tight case for my card, like swimming and such, or that I just slip my card in my pocket.
Nliedel Posted August 25, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2004 I make my husband put my stuff in his pockets :) I only really carry ID and some lipstick so he is not burdened.
Rare Lois R Posted August 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Hi:) during the day most of my outfits have pockets (ALL my shorts have pockets) and my bathing suit cover up has pockets too! So, my S&S card goes in one of those:D I sail solo so no hubby or SO to give anything to....I have a dressy black clutch for my formal outfits, and a couple of cute crocheted bags for the other outfits...they are small and fold up into almost nothing;) ..but are big enough for the evening...S&S card, money for gambling If I hit the casino, lipstick, etc.
ryansmemom Posted August 25, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Just this afternoon my husband asked me if we were going to need another suitcase for my handbags. I just love them. I would feel lost and half dressed without my major accessory and they coordinate with my outfits. So, call me crazy, but yes I do carry them. They are small and fun, though! Linda :D ;)
tinydancer21 Posted August 26, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2004 I'm actually leaving my "real" purse at home with checkbooks and all that in it. I got a small clutch (so cute with Alice and Wonderland on it) with a small wallet so I'm just taking the essentials (lip gloss, wallet, and TC's) and keeping it light. Small wallet for SS card, ID, one credit card, phone card, cash and my Safeway card to use for the room safe. The clutch is small enough to go in my backpack, which I'll carry ashore. :) I figure taking a bunch of stuff I won't use or need on a vacation is just asking for trouble, something could get lost or stolen when it really didn’t have to leave home in the first place. :)
trish1c Posted August 26, 2004 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2004 I take a travel purse with me that's big enough for all the documents, tickets, small camera etc for flying. Then I have a wallet on a string type of thing for on board. About all it holds is card, lip stick, comb & maybe a few dollars for singles or a stroll through the casino. One is casual -- it's woven. The other is dressier for formal night. The big purse stays in the cabin during the cruise. Some of the contents goes in the safe but that's about it. KellyJean Posted August 26, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2004 Last year I bought a little “purse” from Avon on clearance for 99 cents! (Amazing what you can find in their Outlet brochures). It was flat, about 6” round, just a little higher with the handles and only had one snap closure. I used it on formal night and it was perfect just to put my room key, S&S card and lipstick in. I didn’t even have to worry about bringing it home! A little bar waitress in the show room kept commenting how cute it was, etc. so I gave it to her. To me it was just a little thing but she was very appreciative and touched by the fact that I just gave it to her. She had asked me where I got it so I told her. I figured it was easier for me to give her mine, go back home and buy another one than it was for her to try to figure out how to buy it from Avon. I came home and bought me another one for the same price!
Ghost Posted August 26, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 26, 2004 Never carry a purse, not even on the plane. Have a small wallet I put my room key, ID, med. cards and a few $ in and throw it in the tote bag when we go ashore or to the pool. Don't carry one in the evening. Have a couple small flat mesh zippered bags - if I feel the need to tote lipstick or whatever, I throw them in there and have my husband put them in his pocket. Small and flat so it's not a hassle for him. Not into purses and onyl carry them when I have to so it's one less thing to worry about leaving somewhere! lszu Posted August 26, 2004 #13 Share Posted August 26, 2004 I have a travel purse, too. It's an Everything Bag and there is room for, well, everything. It's big enough for wallet, docs, glasses, paperback book, and anything else I might need while flying. My carry on is also an Everything Bag and gets filled with toiletries, cosmetics, and a change of clothes. I bring a couple of evening bags for carrying around the ship at night (then I guess they should be called night bags) and a utility pack thingy for shore excursions that I won't need a whole beach bag for (it's small, but has lots of room for camera, sunglasses, suntan lotion, all that good stuff). Wow, I really am an overpacker!
TweedleDee Posted August 26, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted August 26, 2004 Thanks to all for the information. Think I will leave most things at home , take a small wallet for excursions and put cards and cash in zippered part of lanyard.:)
happysinglemom Posted August 27, 2004 #15 Share Posted August 27, 2004 Definitely no purse for me. I purchased a Lewis & Clark bag (one of those small travel bags that has a gazillion compartments) from ebags that someone on this board recommended. That was the VERY BEST THING I brought on my cruise. I took it everywhere - except to dinner. For dinner, I brought a small clutch type bag (Nine West) that I bought at Dillards for $25, and then formal night I carried a small evening bag. lszu Posted August 27, 2004 #16 Share Posted August 27, 2004 Happysinglemom - That was me! I'm so glad you liked it. It's just like the one I had picked up a couple of years ago from Bradlees (when Bradlees still existed). I just got that same L&C bag for myself and it is exactly the same as my old one down to the last compartment! I love, love, love this bag. This is the one I carry for excursions and to the pool because so much fits into it.

ebk2795 Posted August 27, 2004 #18 Share Posted August 27, 2004 I bring a fanny pack (which has a strap to convert it into a purse) for going ashore. I also bring a very small purse to bring to dinner to carry things like my room key, chapstick, cleaning cloth for my glasses (I can't use napkin or tissue or the plastic will scratch), a small comb, and of course those products we have to use once a month. If I'm just walking around the boat, I carry my key in a lanyard or in my pocket.
Trevoli Posted August 27, 2004 #19 Share Posted August 27, 2004 I'm big on the hands-free thing, but love to always have my camera with me on vacation (you never know when the perfect picture is going to present itself, and I want to be ready), so I use a small purse to hold ID, camera, lipstick, $$, etc. that has a strap long enough to be worn bombardier style (over the shoulder and across the body). That way, I have my hands free all the time and don't have to worry about somebody being able to just grab the purse off my arm and run. T
JanetMarie Posted August 28, 2004 #20 Share Posted August 28, 2004 Around the ship? No. And for evening, I have DH carry my lipstick for me. I have dainty little clutch purses, some oriental ones, that I may take to dinner with my room key in it, a hanky, my lipstick, a small mirror, my allergy meds, but that would be all that's in it. And when I get back to the room, I don't bother taking it for the rest of the night on the ship.

sail7seas Posted August 28, 2004 #23 Share Posted August 28, 2004 I always have a purse with me on a cruise except for when I am exercising. I don't bring all the 'stuff' that is in my everyday bags at home but even when cruising, I want my purse with me. As others have said, I look for my lipstick, tissues, breath mints, Ship's ID,l money (in case I'm in the mood to go to the Casino for a few minutes) and my sun/reading glasses. I carry a smallish purse but bring several with me for days and then appropriate clutches and evening bags for at night.

Your Lewis & Clark bag sounds exactly like what I need. We're planning on spending a few days in Orlando before our cruise, so between amusement parks, Sea World, PLUS a cruise, I really need a good little bag to carry my digital camera, extra battery, extra memory cards, id, credit card, cash, a small bottle of sunscreen, plus a few small personal items. Can you tell me which particular model bag you purchased? I looked at the Ebags website, but they have so many choices I am overwhelmed! :)
