Arnold Don Posted September 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2007  Why has Princess dropped Kona off the Hawaiian itinerary, reduced the number of days in Hawaii, and the total length of the cruise to 14 days. It was always a long trip with many sea days, but you got 5 days in the islands. Now it will be the same number of sea days, but only 4 days in the islands. Price doen't seem to be any cheaper. Arlened236 Posted September 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Arnold...I am not sure what you were looking at because we are confirmed for Feb 2008 for a 15 day RT LA Hawii cruise that includes Kona. We will be on the Diamond Princess...check out the Princess site. http://www.Princess.com It is a great cruise we did this cruise 3 years ago and are doing it again. Love those sea days!!! I should have made it clear that I was concerned about the Sept 08-Apr 09 Golden Princess Cruise's that have been reduced to 14 days. We have also been to Hawaii twice on the Island Princess and really enjoyed both cruises! Don
dforeigner Posted September 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Man, that bites. I was thinking about taking this cruise in 09. Well, back to the drawing board.
Arnold Don Posted September 9, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Man, that bites. I was thinking about taking this cruise in 09. Well, back to the drawing board. It really does bite, we loved going to 5 ports in five days, now it will be only 4, they will be full days however.
Cruisin' Chick Posted September 10, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2007 I'm bummed about this too. On our Hawaiian cruise, we had to skip Kona because of high waves. I figured one day we could do this again, but we weren't able to book a cruise last year or this year. In fact, yesterday, my hubby says the Hawaiian cruise was his favorite so far, because of the length of the cruise and the number of sea days. Rare Coral Posted September 10, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 10, 2007 The only thing I can think of is that they want the cruise to start and end always on the same day. This may help with people's vacation if the cruise is always on a Sunday (or whatever day).
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted September 10, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 10, 2007 I agree with Coral, but have to admit that if one day were to be dropped, Kona is probably the best choice. Still gets you to the 4 major islands, and Hilo allows access to Volcanos National Park. But, unless you really like sea days, that itinerary just became slightly less attractive. Don Maybe they need to accommodate the port schedules and sail a specific day of the week. 14 days allows that, 15 doesnt.
Richard Stein Posted September 10, 2007 #10 Share Posted September 10, 2007 They go to 14 days in fall 2008. Princess used to have 14 day cruises to Australia-NZ, but it is now 12 days with fewer ports. I would do the 15, but not the 14.

This is kind of odd as the Crown has 9 day sailings out of NYC.
