shamrox91 Posted October 2, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2007 Does anyone know if the MLB playoffs will be televised on board? Our Phillies are in the playoffs for the first time in 14 years and we will be missing some of the games next week when we're on the Explorer. cb at sea Posted October 2, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2007 Prepare to Tivo or tape them--sports of any kind are not regularly televised on the ship---The exception seems to be soccer--Tons of soccer on ship tv!
megr1125 Posted October 2, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2007 actually when we were on NOS a couple years ago the games were on in one of the bars on the promenade..and i think in the cabin..i only know this cause i was rooting against the stinkin' yankees! IIRC they choked in the 1st round... phillies in phour!

Thanks Meg! Love your avatar by the way. I was saying to DH last night that we would have never thought that we'd be watching our boys in the playoffs this year let alone on board and even possibly in Bermuda. Hope your prediction is right and they can do it in 4!

gnparend Posted October 2, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2007 Colleen The ships do not typically broadcast major network feeds but do occassional pick up the feeds from other providers. In the sports bar your chances are good. The coverage is different b/c during commercials the camera's just scan the stadium they don't break away to the commercial. Bermuda does followsome American sports so while docked you may get the feed. In the cabin you will get ESPN but it's itnternational so soccer is the usual. I may have to watch the Phillies this year. Last time I remember then in the series was in I think it was 76 in Vet Stadium before we relocated to FL. willysgrandma Posted October 2, 2007 #8 Share Posted October 2, 2007 Good luck - unless they are broadcast on ESPN, you probably won't see them. And we could only get ESPN in Spanish except while in one port. I had to find the "daily" newspaper (which was in the Cafe Promenade on FOS) to find out what the Yankees were doing while on my cruise in Sept. Linda/Ohio Posted October 2, 2007 #9 Share Posted October 2, 2007 I watched my boys of summer Detroit Tigers--lose--while I was on a cruise last year. The games were on in the sports bar. They were NOT available on tv in the cabin. My husband spent time in the casino--I sat in the sports bar. It was interesting as the fans of each team seem to congregate in an area--so you are never alone. Sports bar has plenty of TV sets.

gwlwkwx3 Posted October 2, 2007 #11 Share Posted October 2, 2007 I was on the Enchantment of the Seas a few weeks ago and we were able to watch the NFL football games on the tv in the casino as well as on the tvs in our rooms. Of course our group from Chicago had to watch the Bears do terrible. I am cruising on the 14th with my husband on the Vision and he is hoping to be able to watch the Cubs on board
papakaiser Posted October 2, 2007 #12 Share Posted October 2, 2007 Add another Tiger fan to the mix that watched the ALCS while onboard Sovereign last year. All games were broadcast in English for the play by play in the Viking Crown. Hope you don't mind the commercials being in Spanish. I thought that was a small price to pay after not seeing the Tigers in the playoffs for 20 years. Enjoy your cruise.
shamrox91 Posted October 2, 2007 Author #13 Share Posted October 2, 2007 I'll leave a message on your cell phone when the Rockies win! :D Thanks! That made me LOL!! Hopefully it will be the other way around. Either way, hope it's a good series and we are able to catch something on the ship! Looks like we'll be at the Sports Bar on Sunday night rather than at the parade on the Promenade.

Crazy Flying Fish Posted October 3, 2007 #20 Share Posted October 3, 2007 So that I don't break the rythum of the thread, I will weigh in as a GO CUBS Fan ( My Orioles have lost for the last 10 years so I can't imagine how you feel, specially since you may have advanced two years ago or maybe 3, when that stupid fan interfered with the ball that was hit out of bounds by the firstbase side:mad: . It may have cost you guys the game! O.K.- Now to the point, not to add to her workload but if you read the thread " NFL Games on Granduer " a Lady name Janet (RCCL Rep under the name of Callaghan0416), she put to rest the NFL/NCAA Football broadcast issue onboard the ships. I'm sure she will know for sure, what if any playoff games will be broadcast. Thanks OP, I would like to know the answer to this also. I didn't read the whole thread so don't flame me if this has been settled!! Thanks, Ken.

I didn't read the whole thread so don't flame me if this has been settled!! Thanks, Ken. Thanks for the tip about the RCCL rep. From what everyone else has said there is a good chance that the games may be televised in the sports bar rather than the rooms and that while docked in port we may be able to pick up more channels on the tvs in the cabins. Hope so otherwise it's multiple trips to the internet lounge for updates.
graf103 Posted October 22, 2007 #22 Share Posted October 22, 2007 When we were on the Freedom in January, my husband was concerned that he would miss the Bears playoff games, but they were televised in the cabins as well as many of the bars.
