Late Night Buffets

Recommended Posts

This is our first time on HAL (Veendam 10/28) and I was wondering about the late night buffets. I have read about the Chocolate Extravaganza a little bit. I would appreciate any description of the where, when, and what of the buffets. Is the Chocolate Extravaganza the only one? We're trying to go over all of the various activities on board for days at sea and evenings and I just wasn't sure about the buffets. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Is the 11pm Themed Buffet a HAL constant -- so every ship in the HAL fleet would have this? That would be good info for all new-to-HAL cruisers to know.

For myself in particular, would the 7-day Carribean Westerdam have this?

Thanks

Well, on Alaska cruises the 11:00p buffet is at 10:45p! :D But yes, all ships have a late night buffet. The themes used, and their order, will vary from ship to ship.

We were on Ryndam April 2006 when they did not have the buffet every night. Some evenings that passed trays of nibbles in the lounges. Didn't seem to be appreciated by many/any of the guests. Perhaps they were testing to see if it would fly but it didn't.

Every cruise we have been on since, they have offered the usual themed late night buffet. Seems very few guests go to them; it is mostly crew members like the cast (entertainers) or casino workers. I'm sure a few guests go but not very many.

Yes, it seems they are not always well attended, so all the more for me!

Funny thing is, if you have the late seating, you just finish dinner about an hour before.:o

If you like spicy, get the noodles on Asian night, man they are gooooood.

Oh My, Jim! We're morning people, and never managed to stay awake for the Dessert Extravaganza. After checking your album, we WILL NOT miss it again! Thanks for the amazing photos. I'm off now to do some baking!

Yes, it's truly a work of art! Everyone should see it at least once :)

A crew member told us that it takes them 2 days to prepare it, and about 30 minutes for it to be gone!!

Wow!

Do they serve it to people as you move through the line or is it help yourself?

All those desserts look beautiful!

Count us among those who are unimpressed with the dessert extravaganza. Yes it looks nice and I understand quite a bit of work goes into it, but strikes me that everything tends to taste the same and none of it stands out as memorable. If only it tasted as good as it looks.

For me, set out a few trays of well executed cannolis and a pan of bread pudding and I'm good to go.

I've never been to one late night buffet, but on my next cruise I would like to at least see the chocolate extravaganza. I understand it is a work of art! :)

We went to the chocolate extravaganza on our last cruise. That's the only late night buffet that I recall, however!
