Just off the Tahitian Princess

Thanks! We are going on the same trip (Hawaii to Tahiti) on the Pacific Princess in a month, can't wait!

Question: Do you remember if there were any tours offered at the dock in Papetee? Thanks again!

When we sailed the TP we found a steady flow of taxis and vans at the port ready to take you on a tour. There we four of us and we got a van that too us around the island for about 6 hrs at a very reasonable price.

Thanks for taking the time to write your wonderful review. One of these days we will get to Bora Bora! :D Thanks for putting your review where they belong. I'm sure many good reviews are missed when folks put them in the threads. :)

Good review. We loved Tahiti but felt the same way as you re the ship - just too small for our taste and we really missed the anytime dining. Tahiti though cannot be beat. Next time we'll jsut fly over and stay in a cottage for 6 months!

I just noticed a post asking about the Motu picnic on Moorea. We did the TP cruise back in July 07 and did the Motu picnic. It was fun and we had a great time, but is was a little crowded. We walked down the beach a little way and had the area to ourselves. We did snorkeling there and it was OK too.You will have a wonderful time in Paradise ! Try the Aquai Safari in Bora, Bora if you get a chance, it was great. Enjoy your trip, wish we were going again....

Thank you for the wonderful review. We will be experiencing the same cruise next year. We leave Hawaii on Sept 28 2008.

I do have one question for you.... what did they do for the cross the equator ceremony?

I am glad the casino is pretty well empty.. that gives my mother & me more machines to choose from.. lol.. :D

Thanks again!!

We crossed the equator at 10:00 pm on the day we left Christmas Island. They had a "crossing the equator" ceremony the next day at 2:00 pm. I don't understand why it was held the next day. They did give everyone a certificate that shows you crossed the equator with each person's name printed on the certificate.

Maybe it was at 2pm the next day because some people would not be up or in a night club at 10 pm...not sure either.

What did they do at the ceremony?

We were on the Tahiti - Hawaii trip just before yours, and had an absolutely wonderful time. Reading your comments brought it all back again (even though I'm still sorting through all my pictures.)

Thanks for helping spark even more wonderful memories! :D

It was really pretty stupid. They have a bunch of the staff dress up with a King Poseidon and his "wife" (the burley lounge singer in drag) and then a bunch of other staff as different characters.

Basically they take two staff members, then a recently married couple and then a bunch of other passengers. Each time the cover them with food like spaghetti, and jello and other stuff. Then they send them to the pool. All quite silly if you ask me.

We had friends that were part of the last group so we enjoyed watching them get all messy. But overall, a real waste of time. I didn't even bring my certificate home with me.

We also did the Motu picnic and it was wonderful. Just and absolute beautiful day just sitting on the motu enjoying the sights, eating and drinking. You are there for a good amount of time and don't feel rushed. You also get a demonstration on how to peel, open and grind a coconut. I now buy some in the grocery store (already peeled) and try to always have some fresh cocunut around. Very yummy!

The snorkeling was good too. I was disappointed that I didn't bring the underwater case for the camera on this excursion. You can also pet the stingrays if you want but we had already done that so we went right to the snorkeling.

I agree - it was pretty lame. At the beginning of the cruise we had been looking forward to it, but it seemed to lose some of its luster because we had actually crossed the equator the prior evening.

Thanks for the reply. It does sound silly to me as well....but I am excited about getting the certificate....I am excited about the cruise.. I am excited that we get to holiday with my parents again.....I am excited we get to go to Hawaii & Tahiti.... heck... I am just plain excited...

Thanks for the great review!

We're going March 2008 and bringing our daughter. It's her spring break, so I'm hopeful that there will be other kids on board.

Did you SEE any children on board? I guess they only do the kid's program if there are at least 20.

Not a deal killer for us, but would be nice if they offered it. We took her to Italy last year on Carnival. There were only about 12 kids on the ship, but they still had the program and it was fabulous.

Thanks!!

Glad you had a fun trip.

It is something I should have mentioned in my review. This cruise did not have one child on board. The TP only holds 670 passengers so I am sure I would have noted a child if one was on board. Even our table mates said they had not seen one child. Since our cruise was in mid September and school was in session, it may be different from your cruise in March (spring break?). However, this is definitely not a cruise where you can expect to see many children.
