mom3kids Posted October 30, 2007 #26 Share Posted October 30, 2007 DH and I were on this cruise also. We had a wonderful time. :) This was our second time on her. We stayed in 8550 (very little obstruction) and had a good attendant, although he seemed overwhelmed. We were dissapointed that we missed Coco Cay, but realized it was no one's fault. We went totally casual and ate in the Windjammer each night. The food was good and the service was exceptional. We thought the crew were more friendly this time than last year. We went to all the shows and loved all of them. We really missed the Dueling Pianos; that was our favortie late night entertainment last year. We made a few donations to the slot machines and saw one lady win and heard of another winning quite a bit. We had a blast in Johnny Rockets yesterday. We used our coupons and they didn't charge for our cokes. The service was friendly and the food was prompt and great. I have to admit my DH was bored yesterday because he is not a lay in the sun guy. We have never been on another ship so we don't have any comparison. However, we enjoyed this cruise more than our last on her. We are planning on trying another ship next time. We want to work our way up because I know it would be hard to go back once you experience the big ones. I do feel that a cruise is what you make it. We came in expecting a nice realxing getaway without the kids and we got it. I do feel it is a great deal for the money. :p
Merion_Mom Posted October 30, 2007 #27 Share Posted October 30, 2007 You'reso lucky! We will say goodbye to our 3 night getaway ship and saying hello to nothing, for who knows how long. We will miss Monarch so much. At least we will have the Mariner, can't wait for that! We are booking her for Aug 09' when we are on our last Monarch cruise Aug 08'. Can't believe the ship we flew 5 hours across the country for will be a 40 minute drive away from us now!! Yipee!:D:D You should join us for the very last sailing on October 13, 2008! cruzincurt Posted October 30, 2007 #28 Share Posted October 30, 2007 We were on her in September for the fourth time, exactly as expected, no complaints. The only "fix" at the blackjack tables is the single deck table where a blackjack was only paying 6:5 instead of 3:2. Otherwise $$ made at blackjack and craps. The casino doesn't have to cheat, they always have the advantage.
rt1092 Posted October 30, 2007 #29 Share Posted October 30, 2007 We were on the Soveriegn for a 4 niter it was not the best cruise. But I attributed a lot of the blame on the passengers. A lot of real newbies, arguing with the crew about this and that. I didn't like the casino at all the dealers they had on our cruise were not friendly at all (for the most part), I sat at a $10 blackjack table with some people that didn't know how to play. The dealer was coaxing them to hit when they shouldn't, and stick at the wrong times (soft 16). When that couple finally lost their money and left, I voiced my opinion to the dealer. He said "what do you care its not your money". Well I usuallky tip the dealers about $50 to $100 a nite. On that cruise they got 0. I also didn't like the regular (shoe) blackjack tables. They have a constant shuffle system, that does not bode well for the players. All of the short (3 and 4 nite)cruises have these. I'll stay with the longer cruises or just won't gamble(fat chance)LOL

But I really don't like the rule that you can't doulbe down after a split. All in all the single deck has "been berry berry good to me" If there are 5 or more players and I'm on 3rd base See you on the Mariner

Jsme Posted October 30, 2007 #32 Share Posted October 30, 2007 Sorry your cruise was not what you wanted or even needed it to be since you will not be cruising for a while. I am a firm believer you make your cruise vacation not the cruise making your vacation. We have been on some grand ships and have been disappointed in some aspects but we were able to find fun to outshine our disappointment. While I have been on some small ships that really outshined the grand ships. We also have been on one cruise that it was cold almost the whole time but we made our own fun and our own excitement. I hope in time you will be able to cherish the fun moments over the disppointing ones. Once again I am sorry you felt let down. I know it had to be hard since as you stated you will not be cruising anytime soon.
dino76 Posted October 30, 2007 #33 Share Posted October 30, 2007 So... we are booked in February 2008 for a 4 day cruise. I'm hearing lots of negatives... should we look for another cruise, or go ahead with our cruise? I don't want to waste our money on a "sure bad thing", but I think we are pretty positive people and don't knitpick either and just enjoy experiencing new places and things. We have cruised on Enchantment 2 years ago and enjoyed it immensely!

We have cruised on Enchantment 2 years ago and enjoyed it immensely! Allmost any cruise can be great fun. Its just some are better than others. And everyone has there own opinion. We sailed on the norwegian dawn a few years ago and were totally dissapointed. BUT there were some nice memories. The comedians were great as was the cruise director. From there just about everything went downhill fast. Still had a good time but it could have been better.

There are too many things to do for a person to be totally disappointed, and this OP wasn't totally disappointed. Go on, have fun and come back and tell us all about it! :p

cruzincurt Posted October 31, 2007 #41 Share Posted October 31, 2007 We have never had a disappointing or bad cruise. We've been to muster for real, clogged toilets, slow waiters, bad cabin steward, creaking cabin noises, loud neighbors, missed ports, rough seas, noisy corridors, chairs scraping on the Lido deck above, tight casino ... but never a bad cruise. Just minor irritations. Beats sitting in the office. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. We've been on the big'ns and the little'ns and know what to expect on each. cruzincurt Posted October 31, 2007 #43 Share Posted October 31, 2007 sdear, I see from your cruise list it didn't take you long to "move on up"! We started out on 4 days, low inside, now up to JS's. Is there a GS in our future? Ah, nothing better than barf bags on the railings, piles of green apples and soda crackers. Love that rock'n and roll'n, now that's cruizin. jackdiamond Posted October 31, 2007 #46 Share Posted October 31, 2007 Cruising is similar to another endeavor: it is never bad, some is just better. However, you must consider that this ship is old by today's standards and will soon be put out to pasture.
