Kicked Off Ship

From what I have read, there isn't a thread complimenting families or kids that do behave, but everyone will jump on the ones that were horrible. quote]

I think that why there is no thread complimenting parents for nice children is because it is assumed that nice behavior is the norm and is to be expected. Only when you get the wild ones do people find it offensive. I can rememebr when i was but a wee lad. We were expected to be seen and not heard, stand when an adult came into the room and addess all adults other than mom and dad by their last name with a mr. or mrs. or miss (pre MS times).

Of course that was an opressive time when we did not have rampant sex or out of wedlock babies in great numbers as we have today and child crime and violence in the schools was basically unheard of, so I guess it was not really a good time.

Don't forget Sir and Mame ....... and we got a good whack on the back end on occasion..... instead of a talk about doing the right thing!

Not sure why, but that is what one of the bartenders said after we complained about some of the drunk college students. We were not quite sure if he had his story right but another attendant up at the pool said the same story.

Another urban legend....

A few rotten apples do tend to spoil the barrel, as they say. People tend to notice disruptive behavior and that's always a hot topic on these boards. Human nature, I guess. Head over to the family cruising forum if you want more positive feedback re kids cruising. And there are some out here from time to time as well (about games to play with kids, scavenger hunts, packing lists for kids, AO recommendations, etc).

Besides, who posted "all kids are brats"? Who's generalizing now?

Leap frog is a great game to play with kids on a cruise ship!

I have decided to extend my rant against people with kids bringing them onboard to people with kids at all coming on board...after all they may discuss the rug rats at dinner

Figurered that you were in jest.

However, on Princess we actually had a tablemate who had issues with us discussing our daughter at dinner. Of course, we changed tables.

Well, if all conversation centered on a person not there, that others didn't know, I'd get bored quickly. I do not know if that's what happened, but I have met people that go on and on and on about their children. Hey, I'm cool with your expressing your pride in your children, but, there are limits.

you never know what they might be going through with their own child or someone else close to them that they couldn't bear to hear "kid talk". I hope you (and he/she) were nice about it.

No kidding, I would have requested a table change right away ;)

Forgive me if it's already been said-14 pages of posts get tedious after a while--But my DH's co-worker here in Baltimore was on this cruise and said that there were 4 incidents of people being escorted off the ship. He knew that one was in SJ and one was in Labadee(not sure @ the other 2). He also said that the incidents had to do w/teens urinating in the halls, throwing shuffleboard equipment overboard and a man w/ a drinking problem who got repeatedly drunk and was harrasing female crew members--co-worker thinks that the wife was given a choice of leaving w/him and decided to buy him an airline ticket and sent him on his way while she stayed on the ship. Also, there are reports that security has been beefed up-yay RCCL-in light of so many reports of cruise ship crime. I cannot verify any of this but dh's co-worker was on this cruise and word gets around even on a ship.

The man in the couple got negative and nasty after one or two comments by us about our kid. Saw later that other folks on the ship avoided him. His wife seemed nice but I wasn't going to let him ruin our trip. We ended up sitting with a couple I met online and another lovely couple. We have never had to change tables on RCCL -- gotten pleasant people. And DH and I have lots more to talk about than opne subject.

Figured more would come out and that the behavior would be outrageous.

Good for RCCL....although I am sure the ones that got the boot are bad mouthing the cruise line right and left back at home. But I for one am glad they enforced this and hope they continue to do so!! This kind of behavior should never be tolerated!!

I would think it would be difficult to make travel plans to get home from any port on short notice, but especially in Labadee...I am all for enforcing the rules but that would be an extreme situation...I guess if the actions posed a risk to the safety of others on board it would be warrented though

I can tell you from personal experience that if the infraction is bad enough the ship will leave you in any port to ensure the safety of all pax. I was put off a ship in St. Maarten last year and the most RCI did was drop my luggage at the end of the pier the rest of how we got home was up to me to figure out. After all was said and done the flight from St. Maarten to Miami was $1100.00 pp!!! Incidently, I in no way blame RCI for putting us off the ship the infraction made by my sons friend (who was traveling with us) certainly warranted us being put off.

Hmmm, sounds like a guy I knew at work that was vehemently ANTI-CHILD. I don't know why he hates children so much, but as I got to know the wife better I found out that she had deep regrets about having never had children. Sad.

Glad you were able to swap. No one should have to put up with nasty people.

Makes me wonder if the MaitreD ever puts the, um, 'socially challenged' at a table for 2 if every night after one tense dinner the tablemates seek to flee them?

WOW. I applaud your attitude in not blaming RCI. I'm sure you were mad as hell at the time - at the kid or RCI or both.

But now I'm just simply wanting to be nosy!

Did you attempt to be reimbursed by parents of friend? And, how did they react when they found out that their son had done something to get the boot for all of you?

And this is prob'ly silly, but I'm curious as to whether you were allowed to pack your own luggage? Sillier still, were you reimbursed port fees for any missed ports?

"Clothesline",

I've done nearly the same thing in movie theaters where the same kids keep running up and down the aisle, disturbing everyone. A foot well-placed in the walkway can do wonders for slowing them down. Even more effective if it's a pileup. I don't let on that it was me, of course, bring my leg back in and stare and the movie screen like everyone else.

I look at this way: they accepted the risk of tripping when they started running in the dark. I'm just being sure they completely understand the risks.

I have done the same thing. It helps when you are a white haired old lady and can look innocent.

I'm a little curious about those questions too.
