Atlantis Dilemma

Recommended Posts

My boyfriend and I will be in Nassau, via the Majesty, on January 8th. I've been looking at the pictures of Atlantis and it looks really great, but is it worth the money? He and I are both college students so we don't have a whole lot of extra cash to be throwing around. What water park is Atlantis comparable to? In Minnesota we have the 'Water Park of America' which I thought was definitely not worth even the $40/pp we spent.

The Comfort Inn and Suites room would be $255, that's $127.50/pp-is it worth it?

Atlantis is amazing. That being said, going in Jan. you are subject to weather too cold to use the water facilities. For that kind of money, you are taking a chance.

I have been to Nassau in Dec., got off the ship and turned right around to get a coat (came from PA).

Go again when the weather is guaranteed to be warm, and the prices will be lower.

You can still go to Atlantis for the cost of a taxi or water taxi and enjoy a lot of Atlantis. I understand that if you go after 5 or 6 PM, you can see the sand digs and aquarium free of charge.

HAVE A GREAT CRUISE!!

We were in Nassau in 2002 and went to Atlantis. We were in our late 20s at the time and found it beautiful, yet too expensive. You can go there just to see it, walk around, etc. I do recommend that, but anything more is crazy expensive. (I spent $12 on a hot dog!) Wear your ssuit and sneak a waterslide ride or too-I did. :) Go all-inclusive and just visit Atlantis.

The water park is only open during the day (until maybe 6:00 at the latest) so you first need to see if you will be in port early enough to use the water park. It is not large water park.

IF this is your first time, I would recommend that you take a cab to Atlantis after 6:00 PM because the Digs aquarium is free after 6 (when the water area is closed) and there is an even "carnival" type parade. That way you will have a good idea about Atlantis and whether it is worth it for your next trip.

Personally, I have been there several times and I do not think it is worth the money.

Enjoy your cruise!

We have been to Atlantis twice in the past year so although I absolutely LOVE it...you shouldn't have to spend $127 pp to get in. Heck the day passes (which include the water park) are $102 pp. And you can get them the day of (if they are available and not sold out)

Both times we've gone we've stayed AT Atlantis. Our first room in Dec was $199, our 2nd in August was $179. So there are deals to be found.

And yes, we've been to alot of water parks too...but this place is in a class by itself.

I totally agree, and run the risk of not going when I sail on Majesty in a few weeks. But Atlantis' new Aquaventure is the best - absolutely worth the $105 day pass. Check it out on their website.

Skip Comfort Suites, and if it's warm enough when you arrive, go directly to Atlantis and buy a day pass.

This way you know in advance if day pass is sold out rather then going there and finding out.:)

Thanks for the replies everyone! I think we'll skip it this time. I think I'll look into the Breezes all inclusive instead!

We did the Breezes all-inclusive... Good value for the money... Food, bar, beach and pool facilities all day...

A tip:

They usually issue two sets of excursion tickets... One set leaves earlier in the morning the other says you get on the shuttle at 1pm... Get the earlier shuttle, stay all day, and catch a cab back to the pier... You don't have to leave after the 4 or 5 hours the excursion says you have at Breezes...

We got there about 9:30 am and didn't leave until after 6pm, which was after the last shuttle back to the pier... we caught a cab and split the fare with another couple... Since our ship didn't leave Nassau until midnight, we had plenty of time... and really got our money's worth... If I recall, it was about $60pp... the cab back cost us about $20 for the four of us... it was worth the cab fare to be there all day instead of heading back on the shuttle with everyone else.

It will be cool out. Maybe 75 degrees. Not worth going in the water.

Atlantis is fun to just look around at that time of year. You can taxi over and walk around the casino, the shops.

If you like it, plan on a land vacation in the future. If you were going in april, I'd say for sure do the room or day pass. then it would be worth it.

We did the Comfort Inn thing twice - had to have three rooms for our group of 10. The first time was in September. We enjoyed it because it wasn't crowded. The second time was in August and the slides were jam-packed with 1/2 hour waits. We were only able to do the shark slide once before needing to leave to be back on the ship by 2 p.m.

The second time we decided it simply wasn't worth over $400.

It's been in the 80's there all this week.

Lyncruiser - I totally agree with you. The ships we've been on that were going there docked overnight. I wouldn't do it if we had to be back at the ship by 2pm. That wouldn't be worth it. Sometimes the rooms at Atlantis aren't even ready until 2pm (you can use the facilities as soon as you get there though)
