just off victory 12/16 sailing

just off the victory and doing this short review on my palm treo

 

this was my first carnivawl cruise but I have cruised rccl many times and princess once before

 

I will probably never cruise carnival. just not mmy bag of tea. the only great thing were the size of our cabins we hade two adjoining window cabins. they were by far the largest rooms compared to rccl and princess. food was fine. staff were not up to what I have experienced in the past. the worst part were the shows. I am a nyc girl so I am used to the best shows in te world. princess and rccl barely are viewable BUT carnival was downright embarrassing I felt like a 15 year old girl produced and choreographed it in less than a week during midterm week... the dancers were ill picked I literally could not watch it.

 

I reallywent into it oppen minded if you see my past posts. I really wanted to like it. I don't plan on cruising carnival again..

 

however the itinary was great. we took a tour on our own of cozumel and later went to paradise beach. in grand caymen we did a tour on our own and went to HELL had a great time there. later we went to sea grape beach (free) and spent the rest of the day there. in jamaica we did the brimmer hall estate tour and dunns river fallls tour. my 6 yo dd an dh climbed the falls. I had to stay with my 2yo ds and watch YA MON loved the jamaicain culture. I did not experience any crime or rudeness. than again being a nyc girk and growing up with jamacains I felt comfortable.

forgot to add that shopping on board was fab great items and pricing last year on rccl I got this great 1 carat diamond cocktail ring on the victory dh got me a .19 carat diamond initial necklace Letter R...... great price

LOL, as a new york city girl myself, I don't consider any cruise ship shows up to par.

But what I love about carnival's is how bad the dancers really are ;) That's the best part about watching their shows. My husband and I have a ball enjoying how silly it all is.

I find it's perfect for a cruise ship. I'm not there expecting broadway. And rccl shows are much worse than carnivals. If you put them on stage, side by side carnival blows rccl away.

The best I can say about carnival shows, is that their performers are having a good time performing. And that's all I ever ask for on a cruise ship. Some entertainment. I just find my entertainment in how bad they dance and sing:D

The Victory was my first cruise on Carnival after sailing RCCL three times. The service was the worst and still remains the worst after 15 cruises, 9 on Carnival. At that point, I never wanted to go on another Carnival cruise as it did not meet my expectations. After talking to some longtime Carnival folks, they said try another Carnival cruise. I went on the Triumph and had the opposite experience and had a blast. The service was great and enjoyed the entertainment much better. My experience on the Victory was the service on all areas were horrible from the room steward, room service, dining room team, and the lido deck. The crew did not hardly acknowledge you and was not friendly as other Carnival cruises that I have been on.

 

I gave Carnival another chance and I saw a different side of the Carnival experience. You may want to try another Carnival cruise at some point and see if the experience is different. Or it just could be that Carnival is just not for you.

Besides the Show and Staff, you seem to have a great time. I only go to the shows to see Carnivals HOT show girls :D

Renata - Thoughts and prayers to you with the deployment. Thanks for posting.

 

Maybe I'm jaded at this point, but the main shows just aren't important to me on a cruise anymore. Last time we sailed Victory, we skipped them and found other things to do. I do wish they'd offer more entertainment for people who aren't going to the shows - we found that they closed down a number of the venues during the main shows, and about the only thing going was the casino.

Thanks for sharing your experience on the Victory. Carnival isn't for everyone and hope you enjoy your future cruises on the lines more suited to your liking. Glad to see you enjoyed the ports. We have been to Paradise Beach and Sea Grape Beach several times and always enjoy both of them as well.

Also just off the 12/16 Victory sailing...

Just have time for a few comments..

Embarkation was the absolute best (11th cruise) - arrived at port 10:30 - processed in 10 minutes - waited till noon and were on board.

Monday - sea day - rough water, not so nice weather, but still great to be on a cruise ship.

Tuesday - Coz - Chakanaab - great time - nice weather

Wednesday - nice sea day

Thur. Grand Cayman - 7 mile beach and awesome snorkeling at Eden's Rock - great day.

Fri. Horseback riding in Ocho Rios - absolutely, one of the best excursion we have done in 11 cruises - awesome

Sat. Great sea day - awesome weather!

Sun. - GREAT disembarking set up - only catch was customs - oh well :)

Everything was good to very good on the ship - food - shows - etc.

Nothing exceptional -

We had a wonderful cruise..

Will write a more detailed review once laundry, Xmas, etc. is behind me :)

we did have those two emergenncies that ade the ship go faster made the ride a little rocky...

 

I agree that the shows are not a reason I cruise but I want it to be viewable. the other ships were at least ok... victory shows were painful to watch... and the service was indescribable not in a good way....

 

but we made the best of it.... I never thought there would be such a major difference between lines..

I appreciate all ur thoughts and prayers ... we are still in shock... after he has been in the military so long I guesse its time for a deployment.. he was active duty marine for 4 yeats an now 6 year reserves. he's been a nj stat

trooper so military is not his full time job so its really hard

I don't like the shows either -- not up to par when you compare to what you get in NYC (although I thought RCCL was much worse).

 

I stick to the piano bar on Carnival -- which is TONS of fun. Have also heard great live bands (with dancing).

 

If you were disappointed by the shows, just skip them next time! I always find other options at night (more on Carnival than on RCCL).

Take them for what they're worth. If you don't enjoy them, skip them. Nothing says you have to go to them.

Come to think of it, although the worst cruise is better than my best day at work............our worst service was on the Voctory 2 years ago. All the rest are great

just did a radio ciit show a few weeks ago and go evry year also go to countless musicals, off broadway and broadway plays a year so that is the disappointment my dh does go to some of the ship shows so I always go with him this cruise it was so bad that he took our two yo son. it did entertain him
