booking a future cruise while cruising

The scheme is future cruise credits

Pay $250 get $100 obc on your current cruise.

This acts as a full deposit on a cruise of your choice, value $250.

So basicly you get $100 discount and reduced deposits.

I think they have stopped "hard selling" on board and prefer you to take the credit and book when you are ready, with fluid pricing it is almost imposible to offer "best price" on board any more.

ON our Gem trips there was plenty of info and a rep available to help with choosing future cruises.

The other nice thing about this is your have ONE YEAR to book a cruise, and 30 months to sail...

You don't have to make any decisions except signing up for the Cruise Rewards program.

Another great idea NCL has implemented recently is that these Cruise Rewards are now fully transferable to others if you wish. The cruise consultants aboard the Sun told us this two weeks ago.

Before the Cruise Reward program we booked one of our cruises on board. We were told it was the best price cause we did book it onboard. Not more than a month later it was online (NCL site) cheaper. My DH wrote a letter and received an onboard credit voucher. We ended up canceling and booked another date at less cost. Live & learn. :)

I have purchased 6 of these open booking deals in the past year.

For clairfication, the OBC, can be applied against the open booking, so you end up paying only $150 for each. You do not have to have any other purchases.

But, I do not see any deals with booking a specific future cruise on a cruise.

Yes, the Latitudes/cruise consultant person is the one with the information and bookings.

Be aware that these cruise rewards take about a month to be posted to your account before you will be able to use them for booking a cruise. If the onboard cruise consultants tells you otherwise like they did on the Pearl, they are not telling the truth.

It is a great promotion. Of course we now have a sour taste in our mouth because the cruise consultant on board felt he had to lie to us to get us to buy the product. We had a small window of a couple of days time in which we could book a cruise at the end of November and avoid paying the fuel surcharge and the onboard cruise consultant John Dale promised us the cruise rewards would be immediately available. When I called NCL from the ship while anchored in Grand Cayman to verify the day after we got our certificate, I was told it would take about 30 days for NCL to post it before we could book our cruise, when I returned to discuss this with Mr. Dale he said he had to call Phoenix to get it cared for. Well it never got cared for, he simply made NCL look very bad, and as a result we ended up booking an 18 day Mediterranean Transatlantic cruise with one of their competitors.

I purchased one on my recent Gem CTN. I was told that I had to spend the $100 in the shops, no casino, etc. I obviously didn't know you could just leave it on your account and it would be applied against my balance. Live and learn, they got me!! It was still a good deal and I would do it again.

What is the deposit requirement when booking a future 7 night cruise while onboard?

I believe if you book on board it is $250pp. If you get the cruise rewards voucher of $250 (you have a year to book and 2 1/2 yr to sail), that voucher is used for your total deposit for your future cruise as opposed to $250 per person. So that's another advantage.

We just purchased 2, on board, future cruise deals. You pay $250.00 per cabin (not person). You get $100.00 ship board credit (per cruise), which was nice at the end of the cruise, so $150.00 out of pocket. You have 1 year to book future cruise(s), and 2-1/2 years to sail on future cruises. It's a great deal. Simple enough?

Actually ours from Nov on the Pearl was posted within a week when I called and there was no issue booking Oct 28, 2008 on the Jewel. The $250 deposit was all that was required.

The past few years we have booked our future cruise while onboard. I have always researched online which cruise/stateroom category etc that I wanted, checked both NCL online and a few other sites. The prices I got for booking on board were always better than what I found online. In fact, the price for my cruise in a few weeks has pretty much doubled from when I booked on board. I know I could have just taken the credits and booked at a later date, but I knew the dates I wanted and figured it was easier to do it all at once.

Just thought I'd share our positive experiences with this.

Foursum, how fortunate for you. I purchased mine Nov.26th and it just posted in the past week. Lucky you. Regardless, even if they had posted within a week, in our case it would have been too late and the cruise consultant simply didn't deliver what he promised, but it is thrilling to hear that you got your cruise rewards quicker.

Medic, I am not sure what has changed but to be honest the cruise consultant did everything he could to discourage people from booking on board. He stated that he would not be able to offer the very best pricing available. I'm not sure why, but honestly based on our experiences, I am thankful I didn't book anything with him.

Just curious, did you buy the Cruise Rewards and turn around and book for the $250 total deposit or did you just book and get charged the $250 pp deposit?
