accordude Posted May 10, 2013 #276 Share Posted May 10, 2013 With Courtney, the $20 gets you into the park. If you want to hire one of the guides on the falls, that is extra, but our family just climbed up on our own. There were 6 of us total. We went tubing after that for $25/each, then to the Blue Hole $15 per adult and $10 per kid (plus tipping guides). Courtney took care of paying the fees and settled up at the end. He charged $35/Adult and $30/kid for the transportation. I bought him lunch and tipped a bit more at the end of the trip. Courtney is a straight-forward, honest, and very pleasant guy. I'd book him again in a heartbeat. If you don't mind me asking He charges $20 to $25/ per person what dose that cover? how many hours ? is $35/Adult is additional for transportation ? $20 gets you in to botanical garden is that per person ? The prices in my post above were for having him all day as a private driver/guide for my family, and each activity was charged separately. So the $20 pp at DRF was just the admission into the park. There will be a lot of guides inside the park who will want you to pay them to escort you in a group up the falls--we skipped that and went up on our own. (Be forewarned--the group guides will get snippy with you sometimes if you're not in their group or with one of their buddies, but it's part of them trying to take care of their own little flocks usually. Also--the vendors inside the park are quite aggressive in their sales tactics as well!)

debbs0723 Posted May 14, 2013 #279 Share Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) Any idea how much were the guides charging ? Plus i am planning to carry my SLR camera is it a good idea or do you get wet trying to climb the falls? If I were you, I would skip the falls and go to Irie Blue hole. $10 per person and you will be one of the only few there. There are two guys that live there that personally (by hand) help you climb and take care of your family. I'm a very untrusting person by nature but I even handed the guides my brand new SLR and had them take shots of us. If they weren't holding my camera I gave it to Marvelous Marvin. At one point we also realized my husband was holding his cash in his pocket. We gave that to Marvin also and had absolutely no isses. We spent over two hours there and they treated my kids like their own. It is beautiful, private, you still get to climb up to the beautiful top area and you won't deal with the mass crowds and I think there was one vendor who made necklaces. She only spoke to us when we spoke to her and she was not pushy at all. There are also rope swings and the guys will show you all their skills and believe me... It is impressive. You are also allowed to stay there as long as you want to swim. The water is awesome. If you are a photographer in anyway I'm thinking you would rather have pictures of this instead of hundreds of peoples butts walking up the falls. :D These guys also work for tips but you are already only paying half per person over the falls. Trust me, by the time you leave you will be so crazy about how good they were, you will want to tip them. If you want some pictures, email me at debbs@consolidated.net and I'll send you a few. Ubiquitous Cruiser Posted May 14, 2013 #280 Share Posted May 14, 2013 The price last month (Apr-2013) was $15 / person & Courtney told me that there are actually 8 guides there. He said that Omar is the main one and his father owns the access point (gate) and adjoining land ... And the guides will insist on taking picutres of you ... They'll also give you a heads up to switch to video when they'r planning some crazy stunt & trust me get your video ready because you'll be amazed at how nutz those guys are. It wouldn't surprise me if they start charging more for the Blue Hole--it's been getting more popular. Courtney remarked to us that he didn't think it was going to be a "hidden gem" much longer! (Though realistically, there's only so many vehicles they can get up that road!!!!) Edited May 14, 2013 by quercus alba
