So, what will happen if they don't make thier flights due to the ship not returning on time? Will the added expense of the flight change be covered by insurance?

I guess Delta is getting them new flights, they didnt mention they would be charged extra, however the flights arent until Tuesday! so my parents are going to try to go on standby on some flights tomorrow, but if they do have to stay till tuesday insurance will cover there additional expenses

....I just thouht about it smore more...and what happens to those people with the cruise that was *suppose* to go out today? They're all missing a day of their trip aren't they? That sucks!!

Aren't they just missing four hours? The next cruise isn't scheduled until tomorrow. It's not a day late. It's only late in terms of getting in late tomorrow. It might even be less than that, if they turn around the ship pretty quickly. Although, I imagine the lines will be crazy tomorrow.

but I have to say...and extra day on a cruise ship is always a nice thing. I hope your parents are seeing this as a positive rather than a negative?!?!?

It happend to me on the carnival Legend. The extra day people were not happy. The casino was empty that day, people were very quiet up on the Lido deck. Most were angry about having to change there flight info twice. it was very hard to get a phone line out to the airport, with so many trying. It was not what you would expect getting that extra day. My kids were happy we were going right home after the cruise but with that extra day it was a Thursday when we got off the ship so we stayed in Florida the weekend.

We also just got a call from Carnival that we will be late leaving FLL on Sunday.

What happens in such a case if the ship leaves 4-5 hrs late? I assume that we won't leave until after suppertime. Do they credit us anything? We will miss lumch and maybe dinner.

We've had that happen (ship was used for a super bowl hotel, it was a cluster, we left around 9??) There was no credit that I can remember... since generally you don't leave until 4-5 anyway... we still had dinner, it was open seating. The muster drill was done the following morning... We just had a pre-party and lunch at Hooters in Tampa... lemons, you are now lemonade :D

Yes Liberty was SUPPOSED to leave at 4PM tomorrow. Does this mean it will now leave around 8 or so or do you think they could get the ship ready xtra quick? This sucks because it looks like we will miss a whole day now.

They may try to turn it around fast. You still may be able to board early. But it could be a mess at the cruiseport and that could be ugly. It's more like losing 1/2 day (if 3-4 hours is a half day). But I understand your frustration anyway.

There is a lot to do in FLL :D Go to the beach, go to Beach Place and find a balcony and cold beverage, etc. Make the best of it :) You may still end up boarding a few hours before leaving, so all is not lost. At least you know in advance... we found out at the port and they kept telling us to come back in an hour, for about 6 hours.... and then when we got there they didn't have the S&S card system set up so they had to call passengers individually for boarding  All is not lost, have a great cruise!!

Liberty is traveling at 20 knots now. Here is a link to the web cam that gives the ship’s speed.

Liberty Webcam

Another page at that link also shows the Liberty's location, just south of Cuba now.

I know how those on Liberty now and waiting for the Liberty are worried about how this delay will affect their plans. Events can change plans so quickly. I hope the medical emergency is nothing serious and that those people arrive back home safe too.

Best of luck to all.

Anyone here heard from anyone currently on the liberty? My parents just called and i heard bits and pieces of what my mom was saying but i guess there not going to make it back to FLL as scheduled. anyone have more details?

I just got a text message that stated they will leave at 10pm tomorrow night and arrive in Nassau at 9am instead of 7am.

I have friends from CT,flying out of NY that were coming down a few days earlier but their flight got cancelled yesterday, and they have given up their seats on the 10.30 flight with guaranteed seats on the next mornings (Today)for compensation which they gave up for seats on a 4pm flight today for further compensation, with seats on the 7pm flight which they will again give up for compensation for the first flight tomorow in the AM.

What sleeze balls,I love it. About $1000 in vouchers and their travel insurance is picking up their hotel tab in NY city.

One of my folks on the Cruisin' With the Crazies cruise was on the Ecstasy just a few weeks back. Due to fog they had to remain in port in Galveston over night finally sailing on Tuesady.

They got a $15 OBC for the late boarding/departure and an additional $75 OBC for missing a port and most of a sea day.

I'd be kinda surprised if there was any OBC for being four hours late...

Best of luck, guys...

You guys are right, I will just try to make the best of it. What else are you gonna do? It just bugs me that I have to wake up at 4:30AM for my 6:30AM flight just to wait around for hours and hours. Ol' Snoopygirl will be sure to write a review once home.

I think that compensation is pretty chintzy personally...

We pay for a specific cruise and specific times and when we don't get it I think people very fairly deserve fair compensation!

Atually, I'm surprised they got anything. Anyone cruising should know that itineraries change all the time due to emergencies and weather. And it's in your carriage contract that itineraries can change.

On one cruise, we met a person who was taking the cruise to attend a wedding at one of the ports. Well, a huricane caused a change in the itinerary, so this person missed the wedding.

In short, stuff happens on cruises to cause itinerary changes... and when it does, you shouldn't be or act surprised. It should be a expectation in the back of your mind that this could happen.
