Liberty not making it back to FLL on time?

Atually, I'm surprised they got anything. Anyone cruising should know that itineraries change all the time due to emergencies and weather. And it's in your carriage contract that itineraries can change.

On one cruise, we met a person who was taking the cruise to attend a wedding at one of the ports. Well, a huricane caused a change in the itinerary, so this person missed the wedding.

In short, stuff happens on cruises to cause itinerary changes... and when it does, you shouldn't be or act surprised. It should be a expectation in the back of your mind that this could happen.

I realize this but by the time the ship leaves at 10 now (not 4 like scheduled) I will have been up since 4:30 AM and thoroughly exhausted. I will just want to go to sleep at this point! I will miss out on the ship's lunch and dinner. To me they should credit everyone but I guess policy is policy. I realize it's not Carnival's fault they had a medical emergency but it sure as heck isn't our fault either yet we are forced to pay the price and not them when we are the customer! I'm just frustrated when I should be excited.

I just got a text message that stated they will leave at 10pm tomorrow night and arrive in Nassau at 9am instead of 7am.

I have friends from CT,flying out of NY that were coming down a few days earlier but their flight got cancelled yesterday, and they have given up their seats on the 10.30 flight with guaranteed seats on the next mornings (Today)for compensation which they gave up for seats on a 4pm flight today for further compensation, with seats on the 7pm flight which they will again give up for compensation for the first flight tomorow in the AM.

What sleeze balls,I love it. About $1000 in vouchers and their travel insurance is picking up their hotel tab in NY city.

That's funny I should try that! Sorry to be such a whiner today, I just can't believe my luck when my once a year cruise has problems!

I don't think the OBC of 15 + 75 was chintzy at all. I travel several weeks a month for work and my plane is often delayed several minutes to several hours without any compensation. If stuck on the plane, I am lucky to get a sip of water! Planes and cruises are subject to changes due to weather and many other reasons. If it were your loved one, I am sure you would be happy to have the ship alter its plans.

When we sail out of San Juan, we are often up at 4:30 am to catch an early flight out of Chicago (ORD) and the ship does not set sail until 10 pm...sneak a nap on the plane and get excited for your cruise and relax! You will be so excited to set sail that your bleary eyes will be wide open.:D At least you are not faced with missing your cruise due weather related issues per another thread...now that would be stressful!!

Smile, breathe, relax and ENJOY!

I dont know how ya figure that you will miss lunch and dinner.

Like goingcruisin we were on that ship that didnt board til hours and hours later then we were supposed to- Still when we got onboard the Lido deck buffet was opened for lunch and dinner was opened seating 2 hours later.

Food will always be available when you first board.

You will only be getting on the ship a few hours late-- its not like you ae missing out on anything.

Want to be awake for sail away?? take a nap when you get onboard- get up for dinner then you should be fine.

I am sorry, but I just have to say this...it is not Carnival's fault either that you chose such an early flight so you will be thoroughly exausted by the time you board the ship.

Why should anyone be compensated for a late departure? You will still get on the ship the same day as scheduled, you will still get to the ports the same day as scheduled, but maybe a couple hours later. So you don't get your first lunch...big deal. Who says you will miss out on dinner too?

Why do people think they are so entitled to anything when there is a glitch? I just don't get it.

Yes and what the heck am I gonna do for 5 or so hours in Fort Lauderdale now?

This 6 day cruise has suddenly turned into a 5.

I would much rather be the person/family worrying about what to do for a few hours than the person/family that has to deal with a medical emergency. Be happy for your health and happy that you are going on vacation and just think of the others that are worrying about a loved one having to be taken to a hospital in a foreign country.

Turn those lemons into lemonade and have a good trip.

You really aren't losing anything but a few hours before you can board. If the ship arrives by noon, they should start boarding around 5pm.

We never leave the day of the cruise. It's too hectic.

You'll have open seating dinner and the buffet will be open too. You aren't losing a whole day of your cruise. Just a few hours of pushed back boarding.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

I totally agree on that one.

It got to have been a serious issue and just be happy that it was taken care of and you guys will be leaving with only hours delay. You will still get a great evening and if it was me I would just get started with my Bon Voyage drink on the hotel before getting on the ship... :)

It happend to me on the carnival Legend. The extra day people were not happy. The casino was empty that day, people were very quiet up on the Lido deck. Most were angry about having to change there flight info twice. it was very hard to get a phone line out to the airport, with so many trying. It was not what you would expect getting that extra day. My kids were happy we were going right home after the cruise but with that extra day it was a Thursday when we got off the ship so we stayed in Florida the weekend.

...whereas people on the next (shortened) Legend cruise ended up with one missed port (we didn't go to Belize and I was pretty bummed about missing out on cave tubing). But, we ended up getting compensated quite well by Carnival: $200/pp fare refund, reimbursement of up to $200/pp for extra hotel expenses (we flew into FLL as originally planned and spend the extra night at a hotel), and 20% off a future cruise; which I used to upgrade to a suite on the Triumph last month.

Between what DqALEX went through (a lot of agony on missed flights) and what I went through (one sweet comp deal) for the same medical emergency situation, I'd rather be on the shortened end of the stick.

I was on the Legend in May of 06 and we had a jumper after we left our last port of call (Tortola). We searched for almost 16 hours and then finally headed back to NYC. The ship did not get into port until 8pm. The ship was due back 8AM (12 hours prior). We were okay with it because we essentially got anither full day out of it but was anightmare for people with flights. Carnival did open up the phone lines and allowed everyone to make free calls to arrange for transportation after the cruise.

The biggest dillema was the port. It was crazy getting off the ship because everyone seemed sooooooooo miserable by the time we got off. There were fist fights in the lobby. After getting off the ship the line for a cab was well over and hour wait and agian very miserable people. We then had to wait 4 hours in the bus terminal in NYC because we missed the last bus by 15 minutes.

But I guess it really must have sucked for the people who were at the terminal by 10am to go the nexy cruise. Some people waited over 12 hours in the cruise terminal. And if you have ever been to the NYC terminal you know how bad that must have reallt been.

All in all it was a terrible way to end a great cruise but I guess it still beat being at work!

Remember.... it's somebody else's medical emergency, in a foreign country on top of it....... I bet they didn't think of the following weeks cruiser's inconvenience before he/she "decided" to have an incident

sorry to sound so harsh... get over it!

We don't cruise Carnival much anymore.....( nothing bad implied )....

I work with Misssnoopygirl, and got just got her note about the delay.

It really sucks when a cruise doesn't go the way its planned, but things like weather, emergencies, accidents, and in a few cases low tides have mess things up for us in the past. We've learned to chill and make the best of it.

As for missed flights, think of the half empty planes flying out on time and then the mess to rebook already full flights later in the day.......so the airlines get hit also.

I just left a message on her phone to maybe head to Las Olas Blvd to kill some time if they don't have too much luggage. there are tons of fun shops and some nice places to grab a bite ( La Bonne Crepe is our favorite ). The beach is just at the end of the Blvd...and there are places to chill out. The problem is dragging luggage around, but whaddya gonna do ?

Its happened to us before, as a matter of fact recently on our Celebrity Century cruise there was a medical emergency ( actually a drunken brawl ) that caused us to be delayed until around 8 pm....I was getting a massage so it didn't really affect me, and the ships ammemities were open.

It would be my guess that if they are leaving by 10 pm, that the ship would start boarding around 4 or 5 pm....maybe earlier.

At least that would be my guess based on past experience.

I hope everyone has a great cruise!!!

Just try not to let this little snafu get in the way of enjoying your overall vacation.

Well it would seem folks got worried for no reason. I don't know what time exactly the Liberty got in but it was docked when I got online at 9am PST. So there shouldn't be too much of a delay.... yeah for all the passengers.... Hopefully the outgoing folks won't have too much of a problem.....

Well.... here we are ..... stuck in a FLL hotel.... because we missed our flights, and cannot get a flight out until LATE Monday Night.....

Just to let you all know what happened... we were told by many that a young teen had an accident in one of the hallways, fell somehow and seriously damaged his eye. It was a very serious accident, and the ship had to go to Grand Cayman - and stopped for several hours in the middle of the night.

We did not arrive into port until noontime, and we were called to get off the ship after 2pm. We missed our flights, work, school..... stressed over finding flights..etc. BUT>>> I would rather be doing this with my three kids, than being the parents stuck in Grand Cayman with an injured child.

Yes, it is an inconvenience.... but I believe Carnival was honest and did everything they could to get us back into port as quickly as possible. They fed us breakfast and lunch - and tried to make everyone as comfortable as possible. From what I hear, the teen had "wheelies" - not sure if that is true or not.... but if it is, that is one expensive accident - that will cost Carnival tons of money.

Sorry for those who had to wait a few extra hours to get onboard. Not a great way to start your vacation!

Kind of seems trivial to complain about getting on the boat a few hours late...

So is that why Carnival insists on knowing your flight home when you sign up for the FunPass? Don't they say they need to know the information to help you get home in an event like this?

I'm sure it is a public relations nightmare for them when this happens. I can't imagine have 4 to 6 thousand angry passengers. Tough on the airlines as well. I wish them all a lot of luck. They are going to need it.

Thanks for letting us know what happened. I thought Wheelies were not allowed on the ships:confused: If that is the case then how would it cost Carnival tons of money?

Thank you so much for letting everyone know what happened, and to Carnival for getting to medical help and then making up as much time as possible. I feel so sad for the family with the injury.

I know what it is like to take an injured child to the hospital in our home town, I can’t imagine going through this in another country — prayers to them.

I hope you make it back home on Monday and the people on Liberty now will soon be back on schedule and have a great cruise.

Liberty was cruising at 21 knots when I checked just before writing this post.

Again, thank you so much for the post.
