acud Posted February 25, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2008 what do you really need to bring if you are crusing inside passge in july? saw recent photos of people w/parkas on a glacier in july - but others with shorts! our itinerary includes usual port sightseeing, but also river fishing in kenai, exit glacier tour in seward, prince william sound glacier cruising. no camping, artic circle, denali. i think we need everything from shorts to winter coats but dont want to take everything if we an avoid it. Budget Queen Posted February 25, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2008 Yes, you absolutely need your wide range list of attire, NO matter when, in season you go to Alaska. Layers can cut down on bulk, and I never take a "winter" coat, instead a lightweight lined jacket, that I add a sweatshirt etc. if needed. Definately pack a knit hat and gloves. I always do laundry which significantly cuts down on bulk, and with baggage limits, I speculate will go system wide on airlines, even more reason to consider it. Mike2131 Posted February 25, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2008 Did I mention layers? Believe me, it is darn cold at a glacier face and if you are river fishing - it will be cold as well (think glacier/snow melt). Make sure you have warm, cool, and water proof to be prepared. Alaska is wonderful, but just be prepared for any weather!
daksmom Posted February 25, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2008 Ok, maybe a silly questions - but can someone tell me the average tempature onboard the actual ship. I realize standing out on a deck will be cold, but what about say the dining room, theater and such. We are sailing in July.

This is so not a silly question...because I have the same one. :o I'm going on a June 8th cruise and have just started looking for fleece and the shorts are already out. So I'm now in a panic looking for winter wear. How much will I have to pack? Do you wear short sleeves in the evening on the ship, or do you dress for late winter/early spring in June with sweaters and long sleeves? This is the most difficult packing experience I've ever had. You can find winter wear at plenty of online stores such as L L bean and Lands End, the Sports Authority.

Actually, I would still suggest you throw in a couple pair of shorts. Especially if you are interior Alaska, Fairbanks can get darn hot. :)

chewap Posted February 26, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 26, 2008 The inside temperture is the same as any destinations. They keep it around 70 degrees. It will between 42 degrees and 86 degrees outside on your Alaska cruise trip.
