NCL/Harrah's Partnership?

I have zillions of frequent loser points with Harrah's and love them, as they do me.

I obviously love New Orleans.

I also love NCL for a number of reasons including they offer 7 day cruises out of New Orleans.

I can tell you for a fact that NYE in New Orleans, there was a booth in Harrah's New Orleans with NCL Spirit information and literature prominently displayed. Perhaps a test drive? I dunno.

That being said, I would rate the Harrah's land based casino's much higher than any cruise ship casino that I have been in. Video poker machines on cruise ships that I have been on recently are not even real video poker machines.

My wife and I love to cruise and will continue to do so under current conditions. My hope is that if Harrah's does become involved with NCL casinos that they take some of the things that they do well and apply them to the ship casinos. It would not be difficult to improve current casino conditions on any cruise line.

I agree completely. NCL's casinos are lacking in many ways, and could use some input from Harrah's in gaming. My mind has even wandered into the idea of Harrah's or another land-based casino group taking over a cruiseline's entire gaming operation. I know the realities and legalities are beyond my comprehension, but could you imagine being able to consolidate your play on land and sea? How cool would that be?

BTW, I took a pretty big beating last night at Caesar's AC  . But I have re-earned Diamond for the year, and look at that as my consolation  .

I am not quite sure what you mean by "NCLs casinos are lacking in many ways?" They seem to operate pretty much like all ship casinos. There are very few restrictions as the ships are not controlled ty any gaming commission. I think we would all like to see the csinos operate more like land casinos. This is why DH doesn't gamble on ships, but the ever so seldom time he has he likes NCL the best. a

Nita-sounds like it's time to start staying downtown instead of the strip ;)

That said I'll be in the NY/NY at the end of the week (wife has a meeting at the MGM)

Robin, one of my pet peeves with them is the take over of 90% of Las Vegas. When Paris, Bally's, Flamingo, Ceasers etc were still owned by Hilton they were our homes away from home, then things changed. Everything became one be monopoly and look what we got? Now we hang out in Laughlin. In fact we are re-newing our wedding vows in 3 months on a yacht on the river. 50 years he has put up with me. Now, back to the subject. If it is Harrah's and NCL together, I will survive.

I didn't really mean NCL specifically, but ship casinos in general. On the NCL board, figured we were talking about NCL. ;)

NCL was owned and operated by Star Cruises whose parent company is a casino operator. They have been operating many casino ships in Asia for many years. If anything could be done for the NCL casinos then nobody can teach them anything including Harrahs.

It's hard to compare ships casinos to land based because they don't have the revenue from lots of slot machines like land based do. That's the main source of income for casinos and ships are limited because they don't have the room for them. There really isn't a lot they can do. Which is just as well because people should be doing other things on cruises besides gambling. I can't believe I just said that because I love casinos but cruises should be for other forms of enjoyment. Go play some bingo instead. Just kidding about the bingo.

Those 3 are Realogy (Century 21, Better Homes & Gardens, Sothebys, Coldwell Bankers), Claires Stores & Linens & More (Bed, Bath & Beyond is no longer a twin). So Apollo will do some changes, close stores that do not produce & get things going.

As stated 3 bad investments & 6 great ones (3 cruising). So they do not see any problems with NCL with USA ships & USA employment rates gone. Oceania & Seaborn are doing goodbut the fuel prices have just about every transportation company hurting. Just look at grocery prices & be glad that you do not live in Hawaii.

Apollo has been in the news lately for having a few investments go sour on them. I hope this doesn't effect their running of Harrahs and adding to NCL. As opposed to a couple previous posters I happen to love Harrahs. I have hit Vegas 3-4 times a year since the early 70's and I wouldn't stay any where else now. JMHO.

that's why we just sold our time share in Vegas. It was on the strip, or just off, behind the Flamingo. We loved that part of our yearly trip (used to be 3 or 4 times a year) but there is still something magical about downtown. As a kid, in the 40s and 50s my parents went to Vegas. I guess I will always remember it then, so much has changed. I know I am the one who always says, we have to accept change, but with Vegas it has been harder.

Robin, I agree with you on the overall changes ships may want to think about when it comes to the casino life. One thing that always amazed us, that is how few people play craps. This is one of the reasons DH doesn't. He says craps are only fun when the table is crowded.

The one factor I find most important at a crap table is how good the dealers are. That's another reason I like Harrahs so much. I find their dealers are very good. And funny. There is nothing quite like a full table as long as the dealers move along(and the dice being hot of course). You see some really funny things at a crap table. Hardly ever at a card game.

I love Harrahs Total Rewards. I am not that big of a gambler, but I always get a comp room in Vegas, Laughlin, or Rincon. I prefer the Rio in Las Vegas because I love their suites. I would definitely like to see NCL work something out with them. I would make some time to gamble late night on every cruise, even if it only meant racking up more points for use on land. :D

Just got a call from my host in Vegas, she took care of me for my July visit. She even said she would send a limo to pick me up. I always wondered who those people were that got picked up in limos.

Too Bad we rented a car, can;t use the limo service.

Once they partner up with NCL I would like their limo to pick me up and take me to the pier.:D

Just a comment concerning a Harrahs/NCL partnership. icon9.gifSpeaking only as a blackjack player, Harrahs has very poor rules that are not "player-friendly". They have taken over a large portion of the AC casinos plus of course LV. NCL is probably the only cruise line that has decent rules for BJ players. We're leaving Friday on the Pearl and looking forward to cruising after a layoff of appox. 20 yrs. Cruised on the Norway in '87 and really enjoyed it.

Any other die hard BJ players out there? Also did anyone take their notebook computer w/them? Happy Cruising!!

since the casinos have changed the payouts for blackjack, limited the splits and how your are double-down...we don't play anymore. the best rules for blackjack were the old casino in the downtown part of LV. you could split and re-split how many times you wanted. we haven't played BJ in over 7 years, even though DH was a "world champion" BJ player from one of the old tourneys in LV (1982). at the tables, we watched, they only had the shuffle machine and shuffled after every deal.

Birdlady, you are certainly going to find cruising different that back in the late 80s. Some of it better, some not, but very different.

Have a great cruise and win a few bucks while you are at it. I have not been on the Pearl but have heard great things about the ship. We have sailed NCL 10 times.

My Venetian host still calls me every few months and we have nice long chats, and I visit her when in Vegas. I miss her dearly, but I can't stand to lose my shirt every time I walk into the place.

We love the Venetian too and also have a great host but we can't seem to ever win there. We have reluctantly decided to move to a less expensive property. Guess we better try our Harrah's if there is a chance they might partner with NCL. I'll sure miss those beautiful suites though! And the fantastic pool area. :(

Go to Ceasars or Paris if you want luxury. Harrah's itself is not as luxurious. Rio is great, all suites.
