crusinpsychRN Posted September 1, 2008 #51 Share Posted September 1, 2008 Thanks so much. It looks like a wonderful site. To join it is 11.99 and at this time I am not sure I would use it much. It does look great though. Marie I didn't join but it gives me the info I want. Does anyone have pix of the 1A's that are turned sideways on Upper on Inspiration? Leo Jay Posted September 2, 2008 #53 Share Posted September 2, 2008 1As are somewhat small: Works for me. I'm in 1202 on Victory - does anyone know if that cabin looks like this? I haven't been able to find pics anywhere. I know I have two port holes and bunk beds, but I'm not clear if both beds are fixed, or if the upper is one that just pulls down if needed. Also not sure if the upper and lower are parallel to each other, or whether they're perpendicular. Anyone know? Thanks. Edit: Also, is that a ledge under the portholes, and is it wide enough to sit on, or about as wide as the ledge inside a regular oceanview window? Im pretty sure you wouldnt have the convertible sofa in your cabin. Thats the 2nd bed on conquest class ships, no upper. You should have an upper instead. Some people say they can sit up on that ledge by the 1As, depends on how big and agile you are me thinks. Our bed in a 5A was in front of the ledge so it never occured to me to try to climb up and sit to be honest. Iv got a 1A on triumph, same class as your ship, but I didnt score a port hole, Iv got one of the ones on upper deck above the theater. Wasnt my choice or Id have picked a porthole cabin. If the upper is right above the lower, I'm surprised they woudn't have a sofa --there's plenty of room. Unless my 1A is considerably smaller than this one. Anyway, thanks for the info. I'm sure whatever it is will be fine, just anzious to get a sense of what to expect... NEXT WEEK!
kingfish78734 Posted September 2, 2008 #56 Share Posted September 2, 2008 So what the heck is a 6A?
FlorenceItaly Posted September 2, 2008 #57 Share Posted September 2, 2008 I believe a 6A is a oceanview on a lower deck. Btw, the insides and oceanviews are typically the same size in square footage. You may find Carnivals deck plans on the Carnival site for more specific information due to category and location. Marie
firefly333 Posted September 2, 2008 #58 Share Posted September 2, 2008 So what the heck is a 6A? On the Conquest size ships and larger it is 220 s.f., on the older ships it is 185 s.f., as exalthim says same s.f. as a inside, not a very good deal imo. Its going to be the OVs on only the front and the aft on Riveria deck when Carnival gets thru, 6Bs will be the mid locations on the bottom deck. Go see Conquest deck plans, Carnival already changed them. This will be fleet wide. A OV guarantee now will include 5A!!! so you could wind up with port holes (makes those 1A prices with port holes look even better to me).
kingfish78734 Posted September 2, 2008 #59 Share Posted September 2, 2008 We have always been on the Riviera deck OV but this time we got a 6A on the Upper deck OV. Not sure of the difference. (Except it's a higher deck of course.)

(Except it's a higher deck of course.) Sounds to me like you got a free upgrade. If you are on Upper deck then you now have a 6C on Ecstasy. (at least for now its a 6C, until Carnival changes the categories). It would only make a difference if you were searching for a price drop, now you need to be watching 6C for a lower price than what you paid, same cabin, higher deck, no dif otherwise. firefly333 Posted September 2, 2008 #63 Share Posted September 2, 2008 firefly - in regards to my 1A on Deck 6, what do I check for price drops, 1A or not? Thanks. Marie Its still a 1A, all the 1As so far Carnival hasnt started to charge more for the higher decks or the ones with portholes. shhhh lets not give them any ideas. Just check the 1A price. We have 2462 and 2465 on Conquest next week that they changed to 6Bs that we got at the 1A price. They were offering insides on deck 8 now for $20 pp less than we paid, but not giving up my cabin that is now a 6B I paid for a 1A to get a higher deck inside lol. So, we arent taking the upgrade to a cabin with no windows. Lets not give Carnival ideas on more cat changes to take in more money.
firefly333 Posted September 2, 2008 #64 Share Posted September 2, 2008 Thanks FF. I guess it's not really an upgrade to me....I like being down on Riviera (less motion to the ocean) We like the higher decks, just because Im travelling with two folks who cant do any stairs or move very fast, less elevator times. kingfish have you checked out Triumph, for us its not much further to drive to New Orleans. Starts Nov 09 and has 4/5/7 day cruises. We are going dec 09 to check it out. (sorry for the highjack). The 7 days western go to belize and roatan, which to me is better than conquest. big_duck Posted September 2, 2008 #65 Share Posted September 2, 2008 Well, I decided to switch to 6393 since I know for a fact by Don's pictures that they are two singles. The Carnival rep argued with me and made a note on my reservation that she warned me, lol. I told her I saw pictures of it, and that I had a minimum of 16 cruises under my belt so I knew the risk I was taking and go ahead and book me in there (all very nicely of course). This is for the Conquest ship out of Galveston. I loved the location of 8357 but I just couldn't take the chance of it being one upper and one lower. Edited to say that the rep showed 6393 as a double, one upper and one lower, but it in fact is a triple. I wonder why their information does not show that? Marie Don's disclaimer: Picture was as the cabin existed in October 2006. Please don't hold me responsible if the took one of the beds out of the room.

No, but I will check it out. I would MUCH rather go to Belize and Roatan than Jamaica again. (Never been to Jamaica on a cruise but once while in the Navy and once on a trip I won.) Monkeythyme Posted September 3, 2008 #68 Share Posted September 3, 2008 Is this a "word problem"? My answer: 4A-1A=3A:D Seriously though, here's my take on the core issues: 1A's can be oddly shaped or out-of-the-way: Could be a quieter lower-traffic area, too. We booked inside guarantee on Fantasy this year and got an odd-shaped porthole cabin in the bow. It was great. Very quiet, we never got the expected rocking, and the odd shape gave us more space for our luggage. Someone may have to climb a ladder if you book 1A: If you have four in a 4A cabin, two of you will probably be climbing ladders.

Chigirlcruzin Posted September 4, 2008 #70 Share Posted September 4, 2008 no doubt.......I didn't realize that they were the only 5...glad I didn't take more time looking for others. I just checked 7 day Legend for the summer '09(early august)......1A guarantee $689/person. Think I might go for it to get the kids to the western....book 2 1A guar and see what we get. I'm a balcony snob, but for a summer rate with the kids........I'd suffer. LOL I did a 1A guarantee on my 2007 Imagination cruise. I was immediately assigned a 4A, and then bumped up to a 6A ten days before sailing. I booked 1A guarantees for both legs of my Inspiration B2B in 8 weeks. My room was assigned yesterday - I got the same 4A cabin for both cruises. I'm happy. I'll have the beds pushed together so I have the bed to myself, and I don't have to move rooms! southbayer Posted September 4, 2008 #71 Share Posted September 4, 2008 You can't beat two beds placed together. Those singles are kinda rough, elbow kept hitting th e wall during the night. ebandive Posted September 4, 2008 #72 Share Posted September 4, 2008 Does anyone have a list of 1A rooms that are actually true upper/lowers, verses 1 bed and 1 convertible sofa, vs. 2 single beds that can be pushed together (as in the example of 6393)? This would be a great resource for future cruise planning as it seems every room is a bit different. I woudn't mind a room with 1 bed and 1 convertible sofa, I would prefer 2 beds to be pushed together, but woudn't want an upper and a lower bed. And I definately prefer the 1A price! :o I've asked several questions on these boards about 1A's already, but it is confusing because they are all different. Does anyone with a membership to the cruisestateroom.com know if there are actually real pictures for every cabin? Thanks!
