Future Cruise Deposit

Does anyone know if we can give a deposit on a future cruise with Princess to get the shipboard credit, but book our cruise through a travel agent, and still get the Princess shipboard credit? We are doing Alaska with Princess in May, and would like to put a deposit on a Mediterranean cruise in 2009, but right now we can find a better prices for the 2009 cruise with a travel agent (and they give a shipboard credit as well). If we could combine shipboard credits, that would be perfect. Thanks!

You can do an "open booking" (or at least you could on our last Princess cruise).

I think it was $250 that we put down and we have a credit on the upcoming cruise. We waited to book this one until we found the right itinerary and price then booked through our regular TA.

If your TA is giving you an OBC, so much the better.

However, I do believe it has to be for a new booking. So you would have to wait until you get back from Alaska to book the 2009 cruise and use the deposit.

Thats what we did - while on our Princess cruise to Hawaii. We bought 2 each FCC's at $100.00 each. When we got home we booked our Mexico cruise with our TA and we get the shipboard credit with Princess and our TA's shipboard credit.

Future Cruise Credits (FCC's) are available for $100 each while sailing on any Princess ship. Each FCC is good for the first two passengers in the stateroom (as stated on each one). You can either choose a cruise while onboard, or purchase your future cruise credit and determine later how/which ship you would like to use it on. These can be used with Princess booking directly, or with a TA.

The onboard credit you receive for the booking is based on the length of sailing and type of stateroom booked. This credit is combinable with most credits given by travel agents.

And Princess will allow you to book, and then transfer your booking over to a TA if you decide you would like to do that or can find a better price.

OK, it's all coming back to me now:rolleyes:

Princess is $100. It's NCL that's $250 and you get an immediate $100 OBC for the cruise that you are currently on..

Charlie

Sorry Charlie, it didn't all come back...

Princess Future Cruise Credit is $100 per passenger, but the onboard credit (OBC) depends on the type of stateroom actually booked for that cruise. This information is in other FCC postings, so I won't repeat it here. We got the $100 OBC for a balcony cabin.

Opps! Before I get called out on this one I better state one other fact. Each FCC ($100) is good for the first two passengers in the stateroom. Although, when using one FCC for two passengers, the second must also pay a $100 deposit when you book, but they will also receive the shipboard credit just as if they were using an FCC. Either that, or you can just use two FCC's, one for each.

When my husband and I go on our cruise this May, I'd like to put down a deposit for a cruise in December. This time, however, we will be bringing our two boys. I may book a mini suite, or a seperate inside room, depending on the cost. How does it work/benefit us to do the fcc?

You can buy the FCCs while onboard in May and have an open date so you can book with your own TA at home or book onboard with the future cruise lady.

If you are looking to book two rooms, you will need two FCCs - one in each of your names. Put your name and one of your sons on the mini and you will use one FCC and pay $100 deposit for your son. You both will receive the appropriate onboard credit. In the second inside room, you will put your husband's name and the other son's, one FCC, one $100 deposit and they both will get the appropriate onboard credit.

The benefit to using a FCC is you do not have a big down payment and you receive essentially FREE onboard credits which can be used toward purchases or your automatic tips.

Your full payment for your December cruise will be due at the same time whether you use the FCC or not.

If you decide to book 4 people in a mini suite, you will need one FCC and one $100 deposit, but you will only receive onboard credit for the first two people in the room. You may want to figure that in when deciding whether to get the two rooms or one.

Thanks! So an open date hold buys us time to decide which cruise we want to book with a bare minimum deposit, and we would get the $200 deposit (for 4 people in 2 cabins) back in goods/services on the next cruise. Plus it also gets applied to the total balance? That's a good deal then, especially if we were to wait and get a last-minute deal online somewhere like we did with these two we're going on in May.

How long will they allow you to decide which cruise you want to hold? I'm guessing they'll hold on to that money as long as you want them to.

So then there really is no financial benefit to being on a cruise and going to pick an exact cruise vs. an open-date hold then.

It would actually cost you two FCC's ($200) plus another $100 per person deposit for the second two passengers. So your total deposit for 4 passengers in two cabins will be $400 (or $100 each). When using only one FCC for two people, the secomd must also make another $100 deposit at time of booking.

This part I am not sure what you mean. The 2 FCCs $200 plus $200 cash will be the applied deposit for those rooms until final payment. But, the onboard credit - or free money, will be equal to the amount listed above in Toto's post. Plus it also gets applied to the total balance? That's a good deal then, especially if we were to wait and get a last-minute deal online somewhere like we did with these two we're going on in May. If the deal you receive is after final payment, then you would have to pay the full amount of the cruise at the time of booking. Final payment is usually 75 days before sail date.

If you find yourself a good TA, they will also be able to explain the details to you as they pertain to your particular situation.

We filled out the form, signed it and left it in the box as the line was too long.

We were told that if we did it before 5:00 pm on the last day, we'd have a confirmation left by our stateroom. We did it by about 3, but no confirmation.

What should we do to make sure this gets processed?

Two things you can do. Check your credit card statement and make sure you have a charge for (if you booked two FCC's) $200, seperate from your shipboard account. This is charged differently and is not added to your onboard charges but charged directly to your credit card for a future cruise from princess cruise lines.

If the charge is there you can either check your Princess Personalizer (if it ever starts working again lol) or call Princess directly. Princess should have a record of it.

But just a hint. Never leave this to the last day onboard, sometimes it can take two days before the paperwork ever reaches our stateroom. If you have the paperwork in hand, then there isn't any question if you actually booked the FCC.

If your credit card was not charged and it doesn't show up in the next few days, check with Princess. But if the charge isn't there, there is no way for you to prove you actually tried to book a future cruise while onboard. :(

Best of luck, hope all comes out OK on this one.

It probably has still gone through, this happened to us and a couple of weeks later they came in the mail. But as Toto says, check your credit card.

Do they have special rates or any other incentives when you book onboard?

No, you will pay the Princess rate if you book onboard. It is less expensive to book through a discount TA and use the FCC for that booking. You still get all the benefits of the FCC, but pay less. ;)
