Jacob0525 Posted April 3, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2008 Even though we are using a credit card for onboard purchases, are you still allowed to pay on your account with cash throughout the week? I have done this with RCCL in the past. We still have a balance by the end of the cruise, but it is smaller because we make small cash payments to bring the total down. Thanks for your help. I am going on the Century this month.
eandj Posted April 3, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2008 Yes, you can pay on your account every few days if you wish.
Desertbelle Posted April 3, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2008 eandj is correct, you can secure the account with a credit card/debit card but pay it off with cash. I have also added an additional credit card on our account to pay for casino funds (I have a different account to track my gaming wins/losses)
Rare Lois R Posted April 3, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2008 Hi, yes you may:) they are always happy to take your greenbacks;)
Fang Posted April 3, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 3, 2008 I normally pay down the account the last night of the cruise. I agree Celebrity is always happy to take cash. As a friend of mine says "Cash is King".
cruisinelsewhere Posted April 4, 2008 #6 Share Posted April 4, 2008 Since the title of this thread might get me an answer, pardon me while I hijack it for a moment. I have a cruise planned with my husband...looks like he won't be able to make it so I will probably bring a girlfriend. Can you set up your account with 2 seperate credit cards? And. can you do it during the online registration? Any advise would be appreciated. If push comes to shove I will call X and get it taken care of. To the OP, I usually pay my shipboard account the night prior to disembarkation ( I hate to see a credit card bill for something that has already passed lol)

As for the on-line registration, I would call X to find out that procedure. In 15 cruises, I have done that twice but the other person I shared a cabin with had a TA who took care of it for us. Ardy53 Posted April 4, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 4, 2008 Hi This is not so off topic ... We have only sailed once before on Carnival in the Bahamas, where any payment was done in dollars. Now booked for August on Summit in Mediterranean - is it still dollars or is it Euros that we need? Obviously, on shore will be Euros. Thanks Roy & Val
Desertbelle Posted April 4, 2008 #9 Share Posted April 4, 2008 Hi This is not so off topic ... We have only sailed once before on Carnival in the Bahamas, where any payment was done in dollars. Now booked for August on Summit in Mediterranean - is it still dollars or is it Euros that we need? Obviously, on shore will be Euros. Thanks Roy & Val Everything on the ship will be in US dollars. Everything off the ship will be the currency of that country. On our Med cruise everywhere we went used Euros but Croatia. We bought a little bit of their money when we got to the little town where the wall was, it was easy to do. Euros are easy to get, just use your CC or Debit card at ATM's. You will get the best exchange rate, and the ATM's are all over the place, very easy to find. With our first trip to Europe we really sweated the exchanging money thing, but we just listened to the folks here on CC and it was exactly as easy as they all told me it would be! I sure wish we hadn't hassled with getting just a few Euros to be "safe" before the trip....sure enough, right at the luggage carousel in Venice was an ATM AND a currency exchange machine with better rates than the rates our bank at home gave us. :D
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted April 4, 2008 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2008 Can you set up your account with 2 seperate credit cards? And. can you do it during the online registration? Yes, you can have two separate credit cards and two shipboard accounts per stateroom. And yes, you can do it in the online registration. You just need to have the correct passengers' names. I am going on the Century this month. Forgive me for asking, but I am curious. What is the point of paying this down with cash "throughout the week"? I can understand paying it with cash the last night so you don't get the bill on your credit card if you prefer not to. But what is the reason for doing it before the end? It's not like they are charging interest. It sounds to me like more work than it's worth to have to keep going to the cs desk and make payments.
Iggipolka Posted April 4, 2008 #12 Share Posted April 4, 2008 Forgive me for asking, but I am curious. What is the point of paying this down with cash "throughout the week"? I do this so that I can avoid the long lines at the end of the week. I pay off the balance at about the 5th day of a 7 day cruise, so that any balance I have at the end of the cruise will be small. The last time I cruised, I put a large cash deposit on my S&S account on the 1st sea day. It was great because I actually got a refund check at the end of the cruise! Nothing like coming home with a zero CC balance and a check!:D

I check my balance on line (through the tv) and make a couple of payments during a cruise as well. There is a bank located near Guest Relations on all the ships. Some of us prefer to just do it that way rather than coming home to a credit card balance;). I also check the tv to make sure everything is correct...credits issued...charges made...not any extra charges which can happen on ocassion. Or did you specifically request a check? I was thinking that, if I wind up in a similar circumstance, I would most definitely ask for cash ... that would be my preferred method.:)
mgg42 Posted April 4, 2008 #15 Share Posted April 4, 2008 I guess to each their own. Personally, I prefer to put it on my credit card and not even look until I get home. I figure I'm on vacation so I don't want to think about it anyway. I know I'm not going to get so carried away that I can't pay it. Also, I like to get the points on my Amex! I don't think that they give cash back, although the check could probably be cashed at Guest Relations the next morning. I just didn't want to deal with that hassle and cashed at at my bank on land after leaving the ship. ;)

My interest in receiving cash is so I can proceed to entertain myself in the ship's casino.:) In the past, I would just use the credit in the form of a cash advance at the casino. However, Celebrity has recently begun charging a 3% service fee for cash advances, so I'm in the process of investigating alternate ways to draw upon onboard accounts displaying credit balances.
