Fort lauderdale hotel question

Yankee trader is a sheraton - part of Starwood.

The following hotels are across from the beach, all have access to good restaurants and shopping, and are minutes from the Pier via taxi:

-Marriot Courtyard (new to Marriott, total rehab)

-St. Regis (awesome pool area - a la Vegas)

-Hilton (brand new)

-The Atlantic

A new W opens shortly and the Trump will also be open by next year.

Older (though being renovated) and also on beach in same general are are the two Sheraton properties (Yankee CLipper and Yankee Trader).

Also beachfront are the Marriott Harbor Beach (huge family-oriented resort, rooms and public spaces just renovated) and the Lago Mar (oldschool family resort, being renovated).

On 17th St by the drawbridge are the Hyatt Pier 66 (completely renovated rooms, public spaces and pool area - very nice) and the Ft Lauderdale Grande (a Hilton property) just renovated. Both have great views of the port from their towers. The Grande is in closer walking distance than the Hyatt to 17th st stores and restaurants. Neither of these are walking distance to the beach. The Hyatt runs a free shuttle to the beach. There is also a tourist trolley to the main beachfront area.

Further down 17th you come to the "usual suspects." I'm not really sure why people stay at these hotels - yes they're close to restaurants and shopping and the port - but for a few more minutes' drive you can be right on the ocean and close to all the opportunities there to start your vacation early. these include: Renaissance (Marriott affiliate), Embassy Suites (hilton affiliate), Holiday Inn Express, and Hyatt Place.

CKdoodle - is the Yankee Trader part of marriott or something like that?

The Sheraton Yankee Clipper will be closing June 1, 2008 for renovation, it will reopen in February 2009 as a Westin Hotel. The property will get much needed work. ;)

I thought it was the Sheraton Yankee Trader that was closing and reopening as a Westin. I have a reservation for Sheraton Yankee Clipper for February 7, 2009.

The Fort Lauderdale Grande is a nice hotel on the west side of the 17th Street Causeway Bridge. There are a few restaurants within 2 blocks, including Fish (expensive), China Grill (expensive), Bistro 17 (expensive), Bimini Boatyard (casual, moderate), Bravo's (moderate), Chef's Pallete (moderate). It is a block away from the port extrance. Total Wine and Spirits is about a mile west, but I don't know of any closer liquour stores. The beach is a short drive east. The Harbor Beach Marriott is probably the closest beachfront hotel to the port. It is kind of isolated but does have a spa and a great restaurant called 3030. I would expect it to cost less to stay there than the fancy new hotels.

We've booked it again for our pre-cruise night.

There is a liquor store AND a grocery store RIGHT across the street.;)

We got the Sheraton airport for $55 on priceline for the night before as we arrive at 1AM, and didn't want to pay $200 at ES just for 12 hours. Sheraton is nice, but nothing is near it, restaurant is expensive. They do have an airport shuttle (hopefully that late!), VERY comfy beds. Perfect just to sleep. (we did it post-cruise first cruise)

ES is nice; great breakfast; HAPPY HOUR;); nice pool, view of port, restaurants/groceries/liquor nearby; perfect for 2 couples to share for 1 nt.

A bit pricy, but not much more...and worth it for the complete package.

Hey you! It's Sheraton. Since we'll be with the kids next Feb, we booked the Embassy Suites on 17th street. It's only 4 blocks from Port Everglades. We go out on Sunday, so we can watch the ships leave on Saturday.

Nice picture...ha ha ha! That was Carlos and Charlies???
