Worst case scenario for sneaking on alcohol.

I have 4 bottles of my favorite poisons delivered by a bon voyage gift basket service that delivers to the ship. I have rum, tequila, vodka, and cognac (along with chocolates for DW) in a basket waiting for me when I get to my cabin.:D The alcohol is purchased at ABC store prices, and I include a nice tip to the service for the delivery. I get my alcohol much cheaper than the ship would charge, and keep within the rules as well.;)

That's a fabulous plan!! What company do you use? :D:p:D:p

Does the company you use only deliver to Miami? (I see you cruise Carnival so am thinking you board in Miami??) Which company do you use.

I use JBOY (Just Because of You) and Basket case.com out of Fort Lauderdale. I'm not sure if they delver to Miami port, but I suspect they do. They will prepare a basket customized to your desires. Tip well, and don't forget the chocolates or flowers for that special one!:D

So....why do people "sneak" booze anyway? I don't get it. Is it because they don't want to spend the money on alcohol while cruising??

exactly!

i don't care because, i'm a "rules" person, and i buy a couple drinks per day, so i'm not going to go broke buying drinks. but, with each drink costing 6 bucks a piece, you could easily buy a liter of bacardi for much less than it would cost to buy all the drinks you could make with that liter. people are always looking to save on crusing so that they can cruise more. but, for me, just don't go crazy and buy all the pictures and t shirts with royal caribbean written on them.

Thanks, Craig.

I wouldn't order for them to deliver to DH and me for our own cruises but from time to time look to send a gift to friends who are cruising. I'll make note of this company for future reference.

On NCL you can order Bar set-up. You're still paying more than retail for the bottle but less that the per drink price on the ship. You can also brink wine and pay a $15 corkage fee. You can have your drink of choice as you listen to the ocean breezes on your balcony.

They just hold your booze for you until the trip is over. They don't dump it.

Worst case would be that you keep it for the cruise, and weasle out of paying for the drinks and tips that are the primary source of income for many of the crew.

The last part of the sentence is actually the best argument I've heard yet as why this shouldn't be done. Thank you :)

Hope those bottles people 'sneak' aboard don't leak onto my suitcase. Your bottle could break and not only wreck your clothes but other people's as well.

You know the rules. Do you not think they apply to all of us? Do we only follow the rules we approve of?

Use plastic.

I follow most rules, I just think this is a stupid one. It's blatantly obvious they only have this rule so that they can make more money off of you, and I don't think that they should be able to prohibit me from bringing something legal on board to make more profit. Same reason I "sneak" food and drinks into the movies; I don't want to pay 5 bucks for a cherry coke.

I couldnt agree more with Dave!

Yes, the rules say dont do it, because then they can gouge you at a price much higher than that of even the classiest bars.

If these cruise ships charged a more reasonable price for their alcohol they wouldnt have nearly the problem with people sneaking it on.

I will use the word sneaking because I poored Vodka into a mouthwash container in order to get it on the boat without question. Pretty sneaky. If they find it (at least on carnival) you will get a note on your door to go to a room to collect your luggage, they will have you open it and if there is alcohol they take it away and give it back to you at the end of the cruise.

I respect other peoples opinions on this topic, but I have always brought my own alcohol, I also always buy my fair share of girly drinks pool side. :)

Whoo, long story short, they will confinscate your bottle.. worst case senario they will slap you on the wrist ;)

I have to disagree with this, my vodkas are the same price as bars in my little town bars at home. I guess I was drinking those overly sweet foo-foo drinks, I'd probably be paying more, but simple drinks are 'regular' prices.

No offense intended Cathyz, but your "little town bars" are ripping you off. A vodka and tonic costs twice as much on Carnival as my local pub.

Another good option for getting your booze on board is "Rumrunner" undetectable flasks. They are clear, strong, and odor free and have very secure caps. I have gotten through with these when others in line had plastic bottles filled with alcohol removed.

This is a hot topic on these boards sense I have been visiting only for the last couple of months. I assume it is always a heated debate. I am still waiting on someone to actually prove that someones booze spilled out of their suitcase, made it's way through someone elses suitcase, and ended up ruining some clothes. That is just insane IMO. Anyone that is going through the trouble of 'sneaking' a bottle of booze onboard probably is going to make sure that said bottle doesn't break. If they have any sense, they are going to use plastic anyway.

I plan on 'sneaking' a bottle, maybe even a 12pack in the Coke box' because I basically don't like the fact that booze costs so much onboard. They are already going to make a killing on me in the casino, they will make a killing off me in those fruity drinks the wife likes, they will make a killing off me in just about every area. If I can 'sneak' a few beers or a bottle of Parrot Bay in my luggage (which won't see a airline as we live in S.A. departing from Galveston) then I am going to try. If they find it, so be it. No worries. If they don't, my wife and I can enjoy a few drinks late at night without running around the ship looking for one.

This is our first cruise and a gift to my wife for two deployments in the sandbox. The last worry we will have is a bottle of booze being found in our luggage. I take that back...the last worry will be having said bottle break and ruining someone elses luggage.

It is crazy what people will worry themselves over. "Don't sneak booze in because it may break causing the booze to leak through all your clothes, out of your suitcase, then make it's way through my suitcase onto my clothes." Must be nice to worry about such trivial things. Being military with a spuse deployed in a forward area, we have a few more things to worry about then someones luggage. Why don't we just buy all our booze onboard? Good question. Think about it for a while. OK, ok, here is a hint. Even though fighting for everyones rights back here at home is something we do with great respect and honor, doesn't pay all that well.

Thank you most sincerely for your service.

My DH and I are older than you and our experience with the same was active duty and deployment to Viet Nam. We also know what 'real worry' is. We just did it sooner than you did.

Once again, thank you for your service to our country but please do not judge the rest of us when you really have no idea our 'history' and experiences and have no idea what Real Worries we have dealt with and deal with daily.

Best Wishes.

what I'm trying to get around is the fact that people are willing to spend $$$ to book a cruise, $$$ to get the cabin they want, $$$ for a plane ticket to get them to the cruise port...but yet are not willing to spend the money onboard for alcohol??

I took 3 cases of beer onboard carnival last week. I also had plenty of charges on my s&s card. I do not feel guilty at all. I can't fathom spending as much in alcohol as I paid for the cruise itself. That would be easy to do at the deal I got.

I am willing to... my first cruise I didn't think about bringing my own, so I got it all from the ship. Now that I know how much they overcharge, I simply decide to bring my own. I am willing to spend money onboard for my drinks, but honestly, why would I pay 2 (sometimes 3) times the price for a drink when I don't have to? It makes no sense to me.

I live in a small town less than a mile from my local pub... I pay 2.75 for a cranberry and vodka.. in a very large glass if I might add.

Carnival will charge me 5.75 for this... in a cup the size of a dixie cup ;)

probably the reason why we always ask ourselves at the end of the cruise "did we really drink that much?" :D

Noticed you were leaving in 4 days...Lucky you!! Enjoy.

Back to the original question: "Has anyone seen or heard of anything beyond confiscation as a penalty for sneaking alcohol onboard?"

Charlie

No Charlie, nothing will be done to you other then your stash being taken away. So go ahead and try. You have nothing to lose other then your liquor. :D
