I am retired and I cruise a lot but if there was a job to have I would work for NCL wouldn't you?:D

 

I want to be the person at the front desk that gets all the complaints. I would LOVE that job!:D

LOL... Sea Hound. I was offered that job with NCLA but couldn't get out of my expensive lease at the time for my apartment! I was told with my CS background that I would be perfect for that job. I can imagine how high the burn out rate was / is on the America brand since a lot of international cruisers come to the US brand and get treated differently (different service ethic) and come to complain about it. :eek:

You mean on a ship? It'd almost be like going back to college: 12+ hour workdays, early mornings and bunk accommodations.

Unless I had officer benefits, in a word -- no.

 

I know it sounds hard and I don't want to go back to college but someone asked me if I worked for NCL and of course I am retired so I said no.

I don't think I could do what NCL employees do. Julie and I have always been amazed at the wonderful people NCL employ. We enjoy all of them.

Can't wait to learn lots of NCL employee's names from our next cruise.

Yes, they do have male escorts for dancing, not sure how they're paid.

I already prepped my hubbie that I am leaving the state in 8 more years when I retire. Keeping the house and the hubbie, but leaving the state!

 

I will be the TroubleShooter Gal. One who ensures the crew is having a great work week and the passengers are having a great vacation week. As a TSG, I would walk around all day and night talking to crew and passengers and jump in wherever my assistance is needed. I am a second set of eyes not afraid to get my hands dirty. I will only be 52 and I will be the go-to gal on board. The one who answers the red phone call when a department needs help. I think my degrees and work experience covers most departments...

 

I can not tell you any more. I do not want any competition for my dream retirement job that includes physical and mental exercise on a daily basis.

 

Gosh, I think I am talking myself into leaving now!

 

If that does not work out, then I will be the funny old lady who tells fascinating stories about the history, culture and current events at seminars the afternoon before each port of call. It will be part of NCL University.

I can tell you this... we have always been amazed at the work the people on cruise ships do. literally 14 hour days.. no telling how many days in a row. I have complained about things that have happened on a cruise ship just like anyone else, but I have always had respect for those people. They are much harder workers than I am.. without a doubt.

 

I used to see a worker at the perfume counter, lets say, and it would be open for 4 hours.. I thought.. what a wonderful job that would be.. work four hours and then be off the rest of the day.. AND be on a cruise ship. Then.. I would see him/her serving us dinner.. and the next morning scrubbing a toilet as we walked down the hallway going somewhere. Hats are off to those folks. They just keep going and going and going.

I'm a Theatrical Stage Manager onland (Vegas and national tours) and land based theatre is suffering right now so I have applied with the cruiselines. As I was just on the Star I got a good name in Miami and sent my resume....hoping:rolleyes:

Also, there is a company called C-Deck that recruites show personnel for the cruise industry and I passed my first interview this week:D They are referrring me to RCCL and I should have an interview with them next week. I would love nothing more than combining my love of theatre and cruising and getting paid for it!:p

 

(I've spent all day in the middle of the desert for a car commercial shoot and my brain is FRIED! If anything above is misspelt that is why!)

Right.... I retired from my 50-60 hr a week job.... and you ask if I want to sign up for a 84 hr a week job :confused: :(

 

My mother didn't raise a fool.

Actually there was a movie about this with Jack Lemmon, I believe, but it is also true. On the world cruises Cunard and Holland America, I believe, hire the male hosts to dance with the elderly widowed passengers who are taking their late husbands money to finally enjoy life with sophisticated men.
