Hello all,

I would like to know the cost of the different laundry packages on the Maasdam. Specifically, how much does it cost and how much fits in a laundry bag and how much is unlimited laundry for the week. We are travelling with our baby and would have to bring 4 suitcases full of burp cloths for her!:) Also, how much does pressing cost per shirt?? Thanks !!!

I have never used the pay laundry as we had a suite which included free service. However, I have used the self service machines costing about $1 to wash and I believe free to dry. Soap is generally provided and the laundry area is clean and the machines are good. There is also an iron etc. so you can do the shirts yourself, or buy no iron ones from LLBean or Eddie Bauer which are wonderful and throw away your iron!:) ( seriously I did and also my vacumn cleaner!!, but then I am way eyond the baby stage!:o )

Just got off the Amsterdam on May 23 -- washer cost $2, dryer was free. Marine friendly soap is included (you just press a button to add the soap). I cannot speak for the other ships -- when I was on the Prinsendam in Jan-Feb, 2007 both washer and driers were free -- I do not know if that is still the case.

I cannot remember the cost of the laundry bag, but it is amazing how much it is possible to fit into them if you are creative at folding and rolling laundry. This trip we were only on board for seven days and had no need to send any laundry out, just one quick self service wash. Possibly someone else knows the going rate.

We needed quarters for the washing machines -- easily available at either the front desk or the casino. I do admit, however, that swiping the room card (had that been available) would have certainly been easier!

Friends are frequent HAL customers, and I've asked them a zillion questions including the self-service laundry. They said there can be waits for a machine and the etiqutte is to "babysit" your laundry so it doesn't sit in a machine and delay others. People who let that happen often find their laundry heaped on top of a machine or even on the floor! Also they commented the dryers take much longer than what you're used to at home.

Their point was if I didn't want to dedicate a few hours for laundry the "by the bag" deal might be better.

That's something I never have understood. I go into the self-service laundry and see several people just sitting here. What a waste of time!

I put my laundry in, and head off for lunch. By the time I've finished eating the laundry is almost finished. I head down, wait a couple of minutes, and move it to a dryer.

Then I go get the dessert I put off. Then it's back to the laundry before the drying is done.

I figure as long as I'm back before the machine completes it's cycle there should be no problem. If anyone wants to steal my things they're welcome to them.
