booklady26 Posted June 24, 2008 #76 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Ditto ! I wonder if the "cove" balocnies will be otally enclosed > hard to tell from the deck plans. As some other posters have mentioned, these appear to be similar to the hull balconies on the QM2. I was in one of those cabins when I sailed on the QM2. All I can say is, if you can afford the difference in price between the "cove" balcony and a "regular" balcony, do yourself a favor and go with the regular one. The price difference on the QM2 was over 1,000 for the 2 of us, so we went with the hull. It's hard to describe, but picture a completely enclosed balcony with a large open porthole. The only way you can see th ocean from the baloncy is if you're standing and you can't see it from your cabin at all. It's also rather dark. The only advantage is that you are sheltered from wind and rain, unless it's blowing directly into the balcony. I wouldn't opt for it again and, in fact because of the huge price differential on the QM2, it's one of the reasons we decided not to sail on her again. It's just not same experience for us. AmberMarie Posted June 24, 2008 #77 Share Posted June 24, 2008 I am looking forward to fantasizing about being on both new ships. I do think that Carnival's Conquest was more focused on keeping people inside than the Rhapsody OTS, so the deck plans for the Dream look like they have more outside areas, so that's cool! We love both lines for different reasons. :)

nolaAlive Posted June 25, 2008 #85 Share Posted June 25, 2008 Do ya' really think it's exploitation or a bow to tradition?? :) I think I meant exploit in the sense of exploit 1.to utilize, esp. for profit; turn to practical account: to exploit a business opportunity. not in the sense of abuse or predation. In a sense, it is a return to Carnival of old. I do like open decks without every square inch crammed with chrome revenue centers like some lessor cruise lines. marinearchit Posted June 25, 2008 Author #87 Share Posted June 25, 2008 What ship is this? That area is on every one of Princess' Grand class ships. It's an adults-only pool. The Grand class ships from Grand up to Caribbean all have skywalkers over this area, but the Crown, Emerald, and Ruby have moved Skywalkers forward so the area has no shade. Ventura also has this pool area.

lsp Posted June 25, 2008 #89 Share Posted June 25, 2008 It's amazing how these discussions can get so territorial. I love the gaudy decor of Carnival but then I do shop at Wal-Mart and we all know that Carnival attracts the people that like "cheap". Personally, I don't care for the "Oasis" because I want to know I am on a cruise and not out shopping. Shopping is what you do in port. Cruise ships are for lounging near the pool or reading on the balcony. And if you read late enough at night you get sprayed from the guys cleaning the upper decks. Lot's of fun. And the ice-rink is not something I would look for in a cruise line. But, that's me and everyone marches to a different drummer. Linda
ruskatab Posted June 25, 2008 #90 Share Posted June 25, 2008 Very unfair & silly statements...have you been on the Freedom Of The Seas?..It's not a mall,it's a Promenade-a place to stroll down, meet friends, have a drink-fabulous idea & place..the ice-skating show is one of THEE BEST activities on a ship I've ever seen...superlative skaters doing amazing stunts-you didn't think that was terrific? EVERYONE I've told to see it has said 100% great show (no exceptions)..I've sailed Carnival 6 times (including Pride & Triumph) and loved all,but their ships in NO WAY compare to RCI's Freedom/Voyager class. The FOS was THE best ship we ever sailed. My biggest complaint w/CCL is the ships itself-wwaaaayyy too much neon & glitter-Farcus is no doubt on LSD when designing these ships-we much prefer the soft colors, the glass & wood of RCI ships-so much easier on the eyes..a mall? Don't you think the Carnival ships look more like Circus Circus from a Vegas hotel with all the glitz? You dont think the Oasis is looking like Vegas? Why would any criuiseline put a Merry-Go-Round on a ship. Thats pretty Vegas to me! And the water show...hello have you been to Vegas lately and to any of the Cirque du Soleil shows particularly Reve? Thats exactly what the Oasis water show reminds me of. A candy store on a ship...ahhhh! Have you been on the Mariner and in the casino? It has some of the exact statues of these hideous cartoon characters that I saw in Vegas. And the big orange blown glass wall decorations...yikes! If I want Central Park then I will go to New York City. If I want to visit a boardwalk then I will go to Jersey or Myrtle Beach. It all comes down to money to RC and how many revenue producing features they can put on a ship. With the fuel prices and the airlines being such a hassle and costing so much im wondering what RC is going to do when all the Floridian have cruised this ship to keep it filled. MaryZ Posted June 25, 2008 #91 Share Posted June 25, 2008 . With the fuel prices and the airlines being such a hassle and costing so much im wondering what RC is going to do when all the Floridian have cruised this ship to keep it filled. Well there are 49 other states left after florida is done....lol  Oasis is a destination. Not just a cruise ship. That's how it's being marketed and that's what will sell it. I think it's a great idea. We'll be on it as soon as it sets sail. And I have college age kids. If I had little kids, I'd be even more excited with this ship. Tons of stuff for family fun. Wennfred Posted June 25, 2008 #92 Share Posted June 25, 2008 Hey, Fred... take another look at deck 4. There's actually a promenade that runs on the starboard side, the length of the ship, and takes you directly to the aft restaurant with no detours... Just took a look and your rigth the do have a walk way on the starboard side, thats great. I'm sure they read all of the reviews on here as most people was say navigating around these big ships is a pain. Fred

Yes Oasis is a destination unto itself. at first I wasn't interested at all but then after looking at the renderings, the ship looks so beautiful. So I am interested but definitely not when it first comes out. I think I will wait to see what others say about it and for RC to get the "kinks" out. Maybe two or three years down the road I will try it. The only thing as of now that I don't like on that ship is that Boardwalk area but who knows, I could change my mind, if I actually was there....LOL But I can understand how the "traditional" cruiser would not be interested in this ship at all. And that's ok. Not everyone is going to like it, and they don't have to. We all have our own likes and dislikes.
nolaAlive Posted June 26, 2008 #95 Share Posted June 26, 2008 I do hope for the Royal cheerleaders that Oasis is a destination in itself. With a Western Caribbean itinerary of Haiti, Jamaica, and Cozumel there surely doesn't seem to be anything exciting there.

nolaAlive Posted June 26, 2008 #99 Share Posted June 26, 2008 I suppose they could use two conquest class ships as tenders :p They could but won't. RCCL marketing would take a dim view of Oasis using tenders superior to the barge the passengers paid a premium to be on. Besides, Oasis can't tender into ports because it would take so long the ship would have to depart before it arrived in order to make the next port.
marinearchit Posted June 26, 2008 Author #100 Share Posted June 26, 2008 I have to say, I did laugh at the few Oasis jokes above.;) But, in all seriousness, I think Oasis and Allure will both be avoiding ports where they can't dock. Which is why Royal is working with different ports to develop new port facilities to accomodate the ships. Basically, they know that tendering on these ships would be a nightmare (well, a bigger nightmare than it already is) Hey, even if you don't like these bohemoths, now in certain ports there's a better chance that you won't have to tender!:D
