chees Posted July 3, 2008 #151 Share Posted July 3, 2008 NO irons in the cabins. Thanks, Brian, for the wonderful descriptions. I'm living vicariously. Tina

mamaofami Posted July 3, 2008 #153 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Brian, thanks for the cabin descriptions. As I recall, you were in an aft Sc with your folks next door. We are in 5192 which must be next door to them so I have some idea now what it looks like. Thanks!. 70 inches for that veranda doesn't sound so great. Susie51 Posted July 3, 2008 #155 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Brian, I love the details. I guess it's true you do have a tape measure with you. I'm so happy your mom and dad are able to cruise with you.

sail7seas Posted July 3, 2008 #157 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...... :D Do I sound like Lawrence Welk? :D Brian....... Your description of the Suite if fabulous and I have a great image of it (and love the sound of it all) but could you comment, if you happen to remember at some future point, the number of drawers in the counter along the windows. I so hope they gave us back a few drawers they took away on the Vistas. Sorry about the confusion in the dining room. Hopefully by the end of the Prelude, they will more more in sync and provide the service we all have come to expect. Enjoy and thanks for taking us along with you. Krazy Kruizers Posted July 3, 2008 #158 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Sail from what I understand, Brian is an aft suite which is configured differently than the side suites.
sail7seas Posted July 3, 2008 #159 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Right....... I think he is in an "SC" and they would be different. I'm hung up about the drawer thing. I think they made such a bad mistake on the Vistas to provide so few in a luxury suite. Makes no sense to me and I hope they corrected it on the Signature Class. mamaofami Posted July 3, 2008 #160 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Sail, he is in an SC(deck 5 aft, if memory serves me) and his parents have an aft next door to him. There were very few drawers in the VA aft cabins on the Noordam. I think two in the night tables and one under the bed. Made it very difficult since we had to use the shelves in the closet and that wasn't so convenient. Sounds like a lot of confusion at dinner, doesn't it? Hope they iron out the kinks soon. timetravellers Posted July 3, 2008 #165 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Hi Brian We are looking at booking cabin VT11001 on the Observation Deck. What is next to it? The deck plan shows just 5 verandah cabins on each side of the ship. Are they OK? Thanks for the interesting review. Gail
HeatherInFlorida Posted July 3, 2008 #166 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Brian, your description of the cabins is unbelievably thorough!!!! I am impressed! Sounds like the Eurodam is going through some growing pains which is expected first time out. Still, I imagine it's frustrating. While there's tremendous excitement cruising an Inaugural, I think you have to exercise patience as they work out all the kinks ... at least hopefully they work them out!!!:) Didn't realize they would let you use an iron in your cabin after all the comments I've read on various boards about irons being a fire danger. Very interesting Brian's story about the iron was at the hotel, not on the ship. Never any irons allowed in the cabins.
dellas1000 Posted July 3, 2008 #167 Share Posted July 3, 2008 Hi Brian thanks for your brilliant reports. Its great to read them. Having been on the ship last week I can relate to alot of what you say and can picture as you describe it. I really hope they sort out the dining issues. As I posted we had similar problems in the dining room. You Mums comment was sweet though. :) Keep up the good work. Did you try the Cinnamon Ice cream yet? californiacruiseluvrs Posted July 4, 2008 #171 Share Posted July 4, 2008 Certainly Nathan's comment about the concierge not understanding him is absolutely rediculous! I know some people are charmed by the "foreign culture" on the ship and enticed by the "Indonesian" service staff. Let's get real people. Indonesian service staff translates to cheap labor that does not speak English. The concierge should be fluent in English for a line that appeals mostly to English speaking passengers. Having traveled the world I have never experienced this kind of problem at a fine hotel or resort - no matter where in the world. These cruise lines hire cheap labor that we subsidize via tips and they basically pay them nothing. It is actually really pathetic and I am quickly getting turned off to cruising despite finding these boards interesting.

Yes:) There are plenty of people from ALL countries who would work on a cruiseship for the existing wages who speak excellent English.:p Pay a little more, and hire people fluent in 4 or 5 languages (wish I were one).:)

Well maybe land trips would be more too your liking, Although I have found most resorts pay there employees the least they can. Language can always be a barrier but with patience it normally can be worked out. I also live in California and have found most US residents do not want to do the work their foreign counter parts do. I agree a good concierge makes life so much easier but I don't think I could say after one comment everything has gone down hill. Personally , I do not think it's pathetic...it would take several negative circumstances to get me to that point. Dianne

bepsf Posted July 4, 2008 Author #175 Share Posted July 4, 2008 And I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues... The Elton John impersonator was playing tonite after dinner - so we went to see him. (no, not Joel Mason - the other Elton John impersonator...) He played very well and had excellent backup musicians, but his style was a little self-aggrandizing for my taste with too much talk between the music. At one point, he went offstage to change from his initial costume - a long purple coat w/ embroidered dragons and oriental medallions - to a brilliant yellow suit with black trim that reminded me of a bottle of Jean Nate bodysplash. The Whateveritscalled Showlounge has movie-theatre-style seating in burgundy leather w/ nailhead trim - but the seats are quite narrow and the arms are set ridiculously high - shorter ladies will have the armrests closer to their shoulders than their elbows and people of girth will be relegated to one of the few wide seats next to a column (if they can find one) or the barstools at the back of the room. Little drink holders pull out from the fronts of the armrests, but they don’t fit the base of a glass of wine or a martini glass - and because they are set so high and only support the base of the glass, I envision lots of spills and accidents in the future... After the show, we exited to the entertainment area - the Casino and Sports Bar were jam-packed w/ gamblers and smokers, the Piano Bar was full too and the entertainer there was rather good. I retreated to the Crow’s Nest which was quite busy and has an excellent pianist - and happened across Carolyn Spencer-Brown and enjoyed a nightcap with her and her friends - then toddled downstairs to the suite about 1AM where Scotty was already asleep.
