bostonres Posted July 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2008 My husband and I are thinking about going on a 7 day cruise on the Voyager in December. but he is very concerned because he is a smoker (about half a pack a day). Can anyone tell me about bad it is for smokers? Your input is very much appreciated!
DaveFr Posted July 14, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2008 Each individual must answer your question for himself or herself Some smokers would find the smoking policy a terrible restriction on their smoking enjoyment while other smokers would find the policy to be, at most, a minor inconvenience. Here is the smoking policy: Regent Seven Seas Cruises Smoking Policy While we will always give smokers a warm welcome on our ships, we also recognize the need to restrict where smoking is permitted so as not to cause discomfort to, or provide a health or safety hazard for, the majority of our guests who do not smoke. In light of continuing legislative changes in smoking policies around the world as well as the comfort, health and safety of our guests and crew, both in terms of the proven dangers of second hand smoke and the fire hazard that smoking presents, smoking is prohibited in all suites, staterooms and balconies fleet-wide. Not only does smoking present a fire hazard, but it is also an inconvenience to other guests as the smoke, or its odor, invades surrounding suites, balconies and public areas, creating discomfort for the guests in these areas (updated July 5, 2007; took effect at the end of 2007). In addition, cigarette smoking is not permitted in any enclosed dining areas, whether it be the ships' main dining rooms or the alternate dining venues. Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the outdoor Pool Grills. Other than open deck areas, the following are the only public rooms or areas where cigarette smoking is now permitted: Seven Seas Voyager: Connoisseur Club, Casino, Voyager Lounge (designated area), Horizon Lounge (outside area only), Pool Bar Seven Seas Mariner: Connoisseur Club, Casino, Horizon Lounge (outside area only), Stars Nightclub (designated area), Pool Bar Seven Seas Navigator: Connoisseur Club, Casino, Stars Lounge (designated area), Galileo's (outside area only), Pool Bar Paul Gauguin: La Palette (outside area only), Le Grill (designated area), Pool Bar Explorer II: Smoking Lounge on Bridge Deck Pipe smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club aboard Seven Seas Voyager, Mariner and Navigator. Pipe smoking in open deck areas is considered an extreme fire hazard and is not permitted. Cigar smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club aboard Seven Seas Voyager, Mariner and Navigator, and in the designated area of the Pool Bar area aboard all four vessels. Failure to comply with this ban will result in guests being asked to leave the ship at their expense, without refund or credit for the unused portion of their cruise. So, will your husband be terribly bothered by not being able to smoke in your suite or on your balcony? Will the limited areas where smoking is allowed keep him happy? Hope this helps. Travelcat2 Posted July 14, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2008 As a former smoker (long time ago), I would find Regent very restrictive -- probably would not have considered a cruise where I could not smoke in my cabin. As a non-smoker, I am thrilled with the policy. I am not an "activist" type of non-smoker -- just kinda feel sorry for those still imprisoned by tobacco:o
orchestrapal Posted July 14, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2008 We will be taking our first Regent cruise only because they changed the smoking policy to conform more with Oceania type policy. We would never have considered it if there was smoking in the cabins and on balconies.:)
LOVE@CRUISE Posted July 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2008 My husband and I are both smokers. DId 30 days on Voyager in January and are doing 28 days in October. There are plenty of places to go. By far the best is Horizon deck 5 at the back of the ship; outside of the Horizon Bar. Smoking is also accepted at the pool bar area, and you will see plenty of others who smoke. I was disappointed when they changed the regulations: however it certainly was not a deal breaker for us (we have 75 days with Regent!) I suppose there are cigar smokers in the Connoisseur Club (I don't know because we never go in there) and smoking is allowed in the back of the Voyager lounge (also called the Night Club, and the Casino)

At night on our Alaska cruise it got a wee bit cold to be sitting outside the Horizon Lounge, so the Conoisseur Club got a fair share of cigarette smokers, sometimes outnumbering the cigar smokers. No one seemed to mind. I was so used to the clean air outside the few smoking venues that when an inconsiderate fellow passenger illegally lit up on his or her balcony, the smell completely ruined it for me and I had to step back inside. bostonres Posted July 16, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted July 16, 2008 Thank you so much for your valuable insight! I especially appreciate the input from the smokers among you. As a lifelong non-smoker, I can't put myself in my husband's position, and I definitely want him to enjoy the cruise -- thank you for putting my mind at ease.
