Water banned on Carnival Cruise ships!

Water banned on Carnival Cruise ships!

What are they thinking? Just this week Carnival Cruise Lines has revised their bring on beverage policy. Now even water for personal use is banned. Previously passengers were permitted to carry on a reasonable amount of beverages for personal use. This may present a problem for those cruisers who are loyal to one brand of soft drink or water.

Carnival has also revised their alcoholic beverage policy limiting carry on alcohol to one bottle of wine per passenger. These measures should cut down on public drunkenness or will it? I understand that smuggling of alcohol has become something of an art with people trading their secrets for contraband all over the internet. It is a well known secret that many folks empty out mouthwash containers and shampoo bottles for the purpose of refilling them with alcohol. Water bottle and soda bottles were also familiar vehicles to carry on the contraband alcohol. Restricting water will eliminate than avenue of smuggling on your favorite treat.

These policies have been in effect on Royal Caribbean for some time and caused nary a peep out of Royal Caribbean cruisers. It seems carnival passengers are a loyal and vocal bunch.

There really is no logical reason to carry on your own water (unless you require distilled water for a medical device such as a CPAP machine-that will be allowed with a doctor’s note). All of the modern mega liners have their own desalination plants on board which produce excellent quality water for drinking and soda, albeit only certain brands, are available for purchase 24 hours a day.

I take my water because I drink water all day and night. I don't like their tap water, especially when it comes out brown at times. So now I have to pay all week for the water I drink?

They need to make a water card like the soda ones then.

YIKES!

Don't give them any ideas!

Water can be purchased for about 25-cents per bottle on sale here.

I don't need to be paying $2 a bottle on board!

I don't drink my own tap water at home, so there's no way I'd drink it on a ship! At least I know my taps and faucets are clean!

I like this little excited guy ----->

LOL that is what I'm saying though. I don't want their tap water so I'd have to buy their water bottles. That would get really expensive with as much as I drink. So maybe a water card would help? Hopefully it would be cheaper than the soda card though.

I just went to the Carnival web site and copied this. It does not say that water is prohibited. It still reads like it has for a while that you can bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages as well as one bottle of wine per passenger over 21 years of age. They did recently change the policy to specify a 750ml bottle of wine. The last cruise I went on we took two 1.75 liters of wine. Not sure how strict they are on the wine policy. We sailed out of Ft. Lauderdale and had the wine in our carry on bag and they never once checked it out or anything.

Liquor and Beverage Policy

Bringing Alcohol On Board - Embarkation

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages onboard. However, guests 21 years of age and older only may bring one bottle (750ml) of wine or champagne, per person, on board only during embarkation at the beginning of the cruise. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the main dining room; $14 corkage fee per bottle in the Supper Club. Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages. All prohibited alcohol, additional quantities of wine/champagne or excessive quantities of non-alcoholic beverages will be confiscated and discarded without compensation.

Funny, the Carnival website says the following:

I don't recall this as any different than it's been. I do wish the fellow at travel.gocurious.com had cited the source of his info.

Brita, and several other brands, make special water bottles with filters. They usually cost about $20 including the first filter, which lasts 2-3 months, depending on how often you fill it. If this new policy really is true, this option could save you money even if you only use it for the cruise and then never again at home. You'd save even more money if you continued using it at home instead of buying bottled water, not to mention it is much better for the environment.

I don't give much credence to these kinds of "announcements" unless they do show their source and that source is legitimate.

It could very well be that this is just one cruiser who tried to bring on a ridiculous amount of water and Carnival said no. I have read that some ports have stopped the practice of slapping a label on a case of water to have it delivered to your cabin. You have to carry it on.

The filtered water out of the Lido dispensers is fine. I don't know if anyone would have a problem with you filling up your plastic bottles there - but I've done it and had no problems.

As a Carnival stock owner I have to agree that nothing should be allowed to be taken on the ship. Carnival needs to make money on drinks. We could call it a safety issue. We don't know what in those liquor bottles or water bottles. A young woman lost her life on a carnival ship 2 years ago when her boyfriend had drugs in his cough syrup. Use the ships stores, buy the drinks use the casino, book shore excursions, and by all means buy a lot of photo's. As a Carnival stock owner I thank you.

Why would you people drink tap water on the ship??? They have perfectly fine water that is desalinated and tastes better than the bottled water you can buy that is from municipal water sources (tap water... Aquafina :p) I would never drink the tap water though... I stick to the water on the lido deck or in the dining rooms. I fill a huge jug and have no problems, it is very good... I don't bother buying bottles on the ship, or lugging it onto the ship...

That looks like nothing more than a statement or post by someone no different than me or you.

I would take it at that.

Untill there is some announcement or written change of policy, I will assume nothing has changed.

they also mentioned the one bottle of wine per person limit...how old is that post?

It's been that way for a while.

I agree, I take my insulated mug and fill it with ice and water there several times a day.

This sounds like a rehash of old news. Didn't Carnival try to restrict everything about a year or so ago? Soda and water? And wasn't there a huge hue and cry against it and wasn't the policy then changed back? Or is it all a figment of my imagination?

Remember, they cook and make ice with their water

I always pack a large, empty, water bottle that I keep filled from the Lido deck. The water there is great!!!! Sorry, but I'd never purchase water on the ship. More money for DOD's!:D

I would not think much of it until it comes out in their Press Releases...which it has not yet.
Have no idea if this is true or not, but a last year they did come up with the idea of banning soft drinks, the idea was dropped almost before it was put into action. I wouldn't be surprised if they will carry though this time or soon. i have ezpected all cruise lines to do something like this for years. I think we have all seen, waiting to be delivered cases of soft drinks and water on embarkation day. Think of the $$s that are lost by the cruiselines when we bring cases of anything on for consumption.

I am sure I will get blasted for my approach to this, but I think, if the policy is changed, not allowing water, soda, etc we have asked for it. There is nothing wrong with bringing a couple of bottles of wine, a 6 pack of beer, a few cans of soda or water on board in my opinion, but when people start bring cases on, the cruise lines lose money. I think most of us are in business to make it, not loose it.

I actually think it is a good idea as a standpoint of your pocketbook and for the environment. Most bottled water is tap water folks and paying 1.30 for 16oz is so silly. The lido deck water is very good, same water used for cooking, ice etc. It amazes me how much of a status symbol people put onto bottled water. Not to mention the native people who cant get clean water because of the major distributors coming and taking over.

Ok off my soapbox now :)
