mikil321 Posted August 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2008 I would like to know from some advanced cruisers "How" safe are the room safes in your staterooms on Fantasy Class ships? Has anyone had a BAD experience in the past??? I know they must be electronic? I know I may sound paranoid but I am leaving for vegas shortly after the cruise and am bringing a little bit of cash with myself. Thanks in advance Mikil
KenMo Posted August 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2008 I've never had anything stolen out of them.
sjcruiser Posted August 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2008 They are locked pretty tight. No real way to get a crowbar or screwdriver between the frame/doors to open. They have round cylindrical bolts that are pretty thick. We kept some cash,, cc, travelers checks, Tissot and Ebel Watch in ours, with no problem. Also, you'll be the only one that knows how much money or personal items inside. So, no one will know if $10.00's inside or $10,000's inside except for you. gill_boo Posted August 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 2, 2008 When my card I used for the safe got demagnitized, 2 ships officers came to my room with the main card, swiped it open for me and then had me sign and they both had to sign the log. Its very secure.
Cruise-Crazy Posted August 2, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 2, 2008 I have never had a problem. It would pretty hard to open without the credit card you locked it with. It a crew member with a master key opened it it would be rather easy to figure out. I did find a nice ring in the corner of a safe one time, gave it to the pursers desk. Always wondered if it got back to whoever lost it.

Cruise-Crazy Posted August 2, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 2, 2008 I usually have $2,000 to $3,000 in camera stuff in the cabin since it won't fit in the safe. Have not lost anything either.

samiam0403 Posted August 2, 2008 #14 Share Posted August 2, 2008 I would worry more about the passengers.. Geesss we turn our back for 5 minutes in the casino and our camera was gone!!!! Wow - you had some charming folks on your cruise then...DH dropped his digital camera somewhere on the ship and we reclaimed it at the Purser's Desk lost and found the next day! But I did have a pair of cheapie sunglasses that I left in the casino (that I LOVED) that never turned up at lost and found... But the safes (and rooms) are fine - never had any problems when we've left electronics (iPods, cameras etc) out that we forgot to put in the safe. :o Didn't leave them laying out, but still... G'ma Posted August 2, 2008 #15 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Haven't been on as many as my hero here but, in all my cruises I have never had anything taken from my home either. I have even left the safe unlocked with money and jewelry in it. I have even left stuff out on the dresser. Never a problem. Hey, thanks. But, I have a confession. I was a tour director/manager for a lot of years and most of my cruising was done as "work". Now, I admit, work didn't have a lot to do with it...at least not to me. Onboard, my work consisted of manning a hospitality desk a coupla hours a day and making sure the groups tours were set up correctly, planning cocktail parties and generally being glad-handed. I was good at it, too! It was the perfect job for a wandering soul who loves the sea and would rather be on any vessel anywhere than sitting here typing on this console. Being retired, I currently cruise 3/4 times a year being totally unable to remain on land for long periods of time. If I were a rich woman, I'd have a studio apartment on ResidenSea and spend the rest of my life onboard......HA!!:p
Pegs222 Posted August 2, 2008 #16 Share Posted August 2, 2008 The new Splendor now has the new safes. You do not need to use a card, you put in four (I think it is four) numbers to close it and the same numbers to open it. If anyone does not know the numbers, they do not get in that safe. firefly333 Posted August 2, 2008 #17 Share Posted August 2, 2008 If anyone is comtemplating the Sovereign of the Seas out of Port Canaveral, be warned they do NOT have safes in the cabins. They have safe boxes at the pursers desk where you have to put your valuables in and out of them in full view of staff and passengers. Your comment about safety boxes as opposed to in cabin safes reminded me of that which I disliked.

Cadie Posted August 2, 2008 #20 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Seems like they're quite secure ... but how big are they? I'm planning our first cruise and wonder if there will be room for laptop, camera, ipods, jewellry?? Thanks :)
Robert6260 Posted August 2, 2008 #21 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Not big enough for a laptop.
Cuizer2 Posted August 2, 2008 #22 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Not big enough for a laptop. That depends on your laptop. Some laptops are pretty small. However, the typical laptop has a 14 or 15.4 inch screen and those will not fit. Here are some safes from a few ships ... From the Serenade of the Seas ... From the Navigator of the Seas ... From the Carnival Glory ... From the NCL Jade (I was in a suite, so they gave me two - each was the same size as the ones pictured above) ... Cuizer2 Posted August 2, 2008 #23 Share Posted August 2, 2008 If anyone does not know the numbers, they do not get in that safe. Okay, I'm going to tell you the numbers, so please keep this information in a safe place. The numbers are ... Zero, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight and nine.
