Unused Cabin Credits

Sorry to sound stupid but can anyone tell me if our unused cabin credits will be placed back on to our MasterCard if we don't use up everything we have already added for ourselves. Our reservations at Chops and Portifinos as well as our shore excursions have already been prepaid plus we have added a good chunk into our onbaord account already and now I am curious as to what happens if at the end of our cruise we still are on the plus side of things? Thanks in advance for your help.

Any unused OBC will show up as a credit on your credit card.

Well, *I* have certainly never had anything "left over", but others have reported that it DID go back on the credit card.

Did you know that you can charge your gratuities to your SeaPass card? That's a nice way to use up a chunk of OBC. Wine, drinks, internet, bingo, store purchases............it adds up. :)

Cruisenfever's response is somewhat encouraging to me, although when I called C&A, they told me "use it or lose it." Someone else said the only kind you had to use or lose is what the cruise line itself posted for you; i.e., the credit for booking on a previous cruise. That much I can use up. I will also have credit from our travel agent, credit from our RCCL Visa card, and credit because we are shareholders. I'm hoping to come out of this with a little cash in the pocket.

If by chance they have changed the policy since Cruisenfever's experience, I am prepared to book a few other cruises while on board to use up the extra credit.

We have prepaid our tips already, and most of our shore excursions are private ones we arranged.

I intend to ask at the pursar's desk early on in the cruise.

We'll see. Fingers crossed.:)

The way I have always understood it, is if the OBCPAID for , gift certificate or OBC from TA etc, then any balance would be refunded. If the OBC was NOT paid for, shareholder, Visa Card, Next Cruise, etc, then any balance would be lost. To make sure, just go to the Guest Services on the last night and withdraw cash to make your account a zero balance, if you have a credit card linked to your seapass, then any last minute charges will be charged to the credit card, and you have the cash:D

I have had OBC given by the cruise line and the remainder was refunded to my card........I really don't think they take the time to figure out where your OBC is coming from especially when it is from several sources.

But, there is a disclaimer on the visa, shareholder etc. that it will be lost if not used but that was not the case in my situation.

I guess that we are in the minority because we always have a credit left on our SeaPass account at the end of a cruise and it has always been applied to our credit card as a credit.

Didn't make any difference what type of OBC it was..........it we didn't spend it...........we got it back.

On our b2b on Splendour this past March-April...........we had a substantial amount that was not used on each cruise. the last night of each cruise we got a call from GR asking us to come down to settle our account and they paid us in cash. They said that they could be charges on our credit card but not a credit!

I am not 100% sure on this, but I dont think you can put a new booking or NC on your seapass:confused: .......they always ask for a credit card number...

they put it on our seapass last year, though it could have changed. They asked our preference.

Hmmmmmm..........who knows then?? Even though we use the same CC for booking a NC as we use for our seapass, they always ask for it ......

Oh well, I am one of those who never have leftover OBC anyway.:o

Interesting that the experiences are all over the board. I suppose it all depends on who is manning the pursar's desk.

All I know is that I've worked hard to accumulate that OBC, even knowing I won't use but a small fraction of it, Because the cash I "hope" to get back will go toward our next cruise. We'll see VERY SOON.:D

I asked once about the OBC part and this is the explaination:

- unpaid OBC first, paid OBC last

- unpaid OBC no cash out, paid OBC cash out

I.e. if you have $50 OBC from an NC (unpaid) and $50 from a TA (paid) and you spend $75 you will get $25 back.

All OBC is listed as credit on your SeaPass bill and disregarding the order they are listed the internal accounting system differentiate between paid and unpaid.

In the example above if you spend only $25 (shame on you) your refund will be $50. You lose $25 of the unpaid OBC.

Unpaid OBC can only come from the cruise line and in a normal circumstance (no comp) you can only get a max of $400 unpaid OBC ($200 NC, $200 stocks). If anybody spends less than $400 on a 12 Nighter they shouldn't be cruising anyways. :D

Thats how it was explained.

I'm confused..........doesn't take much!:o I guess you lost me when you started with "paid" and "unpaid" OBC!

Are you saying that if you have OBC's on your SeaPass Account from different sources (i.e., booking onboard/NC, Shareholder Benefits, Visa Points Redeemed) and you spend just some of it............you won't get all of it back?

Go to the cashiers box in the casino and hand them your seapass. Ask for an amount equal to whatever amount of OBC you think you have left. They will give you cash ( some ships are charging a small fee now for cash in the casino ). Better to get it in cash than to let it go "poof", if you aren't sure what will happen to any leftover OBC.

We never have any problem spending our OBC's and then some!!!!

FL Cruise64 -- Did they say you cannot have more than the max of $400? Right now our 14 dayer shows $200 for NC and $250 for shareholder.

Sorry, my bad.

For some reason I calculated $200 stockholder OBC. Nobody told me anything how much OBC RCI can give you.

I just added up the maximum OBC (unpaid) RCI can give you (under normal circumstances): NC/Future Cruise (max 200) and stock holder (max $250). Unless there is another OBC source.

Ahhhhhh....seychelle. We found another OBC source from RCI: credit card.

But I am not sure if that would fall under unpaid. I would think so.

What I mean between unpaid and paid is:

- a TA OBC is paid for. The TA pays for the OBC.

- if a cruiser buys him/herself OBC (like a cruise fund) that is paid for.

- NC OBC is not paid for. It is given to you by RCI but RCI didn't put any money in.

- stockholder OBC is also unpaid. It is given to you by RCI without RCI making a payment.

You only can get money back from OBC which actually is a result of an actual payment. Otherwise RCI would keep money which really doesn't belong to them.

This whole idea about "go cash your OBC" is stupid anyways (like the one poster in this thread suggested). The OBC is included in the running balance. Its not like you can say "I cash my OBC". All you do is take out money against your SeaPass bill.

I would say 99.9% of the time a cruiser doesn't even get to the scenario of having to lose an (unpaid) RCI OBC. Most of the cash back you receive is the leftover OBC which was paid for (i.e. TA).

Now, how accurate this policy is being actually enforced I am not sure.

Nobody is entitled to a cash back from stock holder OBC, NC/Future Cruise OBC, Credit Card Points OBC.

OK.......now I understand......................BUT..............why are you not entitled to money back from Credit Card Points...........that's not coming from RCI that's coming from BofA.

Earlier in the post I stated that I am not sure how this is handled. Is it considered under the paid category or unpaid? Not sure.

What does your BoA agreement say? I don't have that RCCL Visa Point Program. I use AmEx exclusively.

Well, this is becoming a tempest in a teapot.

Petesweet, please post the results of your OBC experience so we all can have the latest news.

I will share my experience! I received OBC from Next cruise booking, Stockholder, T/A on all of my cruise's! I also am a VIP Casino Royal player , in which I receive OBC for. There are times I have $1500.00+ OBC and have not spent it all. I have received as much as $650.00 in credit back to my BofA credit card!

Just off the Mariner 3 weeks ago, and received a Credit to my BofA. The only so called PAID OBC if from my T/A, and the credit I received exceeded the T/A OBC!

Also I have always been charged directly to my BofA for my Next Cruise Bookings. I have NEVER been charged on my seapass card for them. I tried to use up my OBC by purchasing NC Bookings, but they didn't apply the NC Bookings to my Seapass card!

Now is this a RC Policy enforced with all their Ships? Seems to me each Ship does things differently! We spoke with the Matre D on our last cruise in regards to no more fruit punch or lemonade in the Main Dining room, and was told its a Policy on All Ships. Wasn't a policy in June or Feb of 2008 when we cruised on other Ships. I will find out in 5 weeks on the Liberty!

They need to get their ACT TOGETHER! If they implement a Policy, then it should be FLEET WIDE!:D

As a shareholer of RCL we say "Thank You" ;-)

Sorry to say that any money "Left on the Table" ie, your cruise credits, will vanish.

I just got off the EN yesterday. As an afterthought I went to the pursars the last night to check my folio and found that I had $39.97 credit left. (that being "Cabin Credit" or "OBC" as opposed to any cash deposit against account which would be returned by check before you mleave the ship) ,

I'm guessing you are talking about OBC .? like a credit from booking on-board or a shareholder credit? Not straight cash..

As I wanted nothing from the shops, and was through drinking, I went the the casino and got a $40.00 advance against my folio. They now charge 3% advance fee, but hey, it was "free" money. So it cost me $1.20 for the $40.00.

Hey. I'm still "up" .. in a manor of speaking...

Steve
