Summit or Solstice??

Hi Everyone,

Need some advice, I usually cruise Royal Caribbean but want to go on Celebrity. Planning to go in Dec 2008. Would you do a 3 week old Solstice or The Summit. We don't really care about itinerary.

We've sailed on the Summit twice and are booked on Solstice this Christmas. For you I think it's going to be a personal decision about the ship itself if the ports are not an issue. We loved Summit very much and highly recommend it. We're also looking forward to Solstice. Have you ever sailed on a ship as large as Solstice?

Summit is traditional M class/ Celebrity. Solstice is an unknown--maybe a hybrid of X & Royal (just a guess since no one really knows what it'll be like on board)

 

We are going Solstice in Jan to try the ship & again in Sept 09 for the itin (E Medit) Then we'll go back to Constellation and M class--the bigger ships are not that appealing to us but they are the future..

We were booked on Solstice but I liked the itinerary of Summit so changed to the Summit. I like the idea of a smaller ship (also much less $). Seems personal choice - both will be terrific.

We love RCL but could not resist trying X and the fares for the Dec. 14th sailing (originally to be the inaugural) were very good....still are. I say Solstice, but it is definitely a personal choice. Let us know if you do Solstice and don't forget to sign up for the Cruise Connections party if you do.

By December glitches should be worked out. The crew will be experienced coming from other X ships. The ship will be taking on guests starting November 9th. Now mind you, it's company employees, media, and travel agents.

 

Now as to OPs question. It's hard to get a fair answer to the question as the ship has yet to sail. So no one really knows what to expect.

 

Keep in mind, flying in and our of San Juan on Saturday and Sunday is miserable. If you plan on taking Summit, plan on getting there early and possibly staying an extra day or two.

My one experiencing flying into San Juan was this spring on the Summit TA. We flew UA out of Chicago and surprisingly enough, the plane both left and arrived on time - very smooth indeed given all the bad ontime performance these days.

 

Would be interested in hearing what your experiences have been in this matter.

We considered both ships but choose the Summit for a number of reasons including more managable size, gliches on new ship may not be worked out in a few weeks and cruising out of SJ vs Fl assures you of good weather ands smooth sailing.

I'm not talking on time. I was talking about the number of people headed for the airport. But after taking a look at ships in port. It's just two ships, so it shouldn't be too bad.
