southwest bookings for late May

Does anyone know when Southwest will open bookings for late May?

Southwest hasn't said yet. When they do, it will be posted on the Travel Tools page of their website http://www.southwest.com/travel_center/travel_center.html?ref=trvltls_gn which currently only says they are accepting reservations through May 8, 2009.

I posted the same question a couple of weeks ago and someone posted the response below.

 

 

"We are currently accepting air reservations through May 8, 2009. On December 9, 2008, we will open our schedules for sale through June 28, 2009. This date is subject to change. Please check back frequently."

Possibly because of this article, quoted in part:

 

DALLAS — The chief executive of Southwest Airlines Co. said Tuesday that travel demand slumped sharply in November and the growth-happy carrier won't expand its fleet next year.

Chairman and CEO Gary Kelly also said Southwest plans to cut capacity early next year, although not quite as sharply as the airline had previously said.

"October was a bang-up month, almost unexplainably strong," Kelly said. "The trends changed in November" after the stock market meltdown.

"Obviously we're concerned about the economy," Kelly said, but he added he doesn't expect another sharp decline in U.S. travel this month.

Kelly said Southwest's new schedule out in January will include a capacity cut of 4 to 5% in the first quarter, slightly less than the airline's previous goal of a 5 to 6% reduction.

Yes. Generally they only open up bookings about 6 months out and as a result you rarely have schedule changes with Southwest.

I got an email this past week indicating the schedule will be out tomorrow (12/9) for bookings through late June. (Same info Steve has)
