I am just cracking up here...

I have read several posts where the person states "PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME " in fright, before actually asking a question..

I wonder what concept people might have when they come to the boards for the first time and see all these flame throwing posts.

I always think the same thing. It was one of the first things we noticed when we started surfing the site. The strange thing is it only seems to be in the RCI forum for the most part. I rarely see any major disputes which lead to flaming in other forums. Other boards tend to be able to control their debates/discussions but here it is always open season. Let's see we've beaten the JR issue down to a lifeless nothing, everyone is still recovering from the flames of the "teen curfew" posts, and the "chair hoggers" have just about exhausted themselves out as well...looks to me like we're about due for a "food bashing" post or better yet a "booze smuggling" topic. [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif[/img]

Maybe it's due to RCI's cross section.

Of the middle class cruisers;
Carnival folks mostly know that it's all for fun.
Princess & Celebrity folks mostly feel a bit more 'elite' and above the rabble.

Royal Caribbean has a near even mix so there is a bit more friction between the groups.

If you think flaming doesn't happen on other boards, you haven't spent enough time on them. I've read flaming posts on Celebrity, although Royal Caribbean posters seem to carry flame throwers in their back pockets and use them regularly. On the other hand, this is also the most active board, so perhaps it's easier to ruffle people's feathers here when there are so many posters to choose from.

I agree that things get a little feisty here because of the diversity of ages and backgrounds. I have 22 and 27 year old sons, and it's hard sometimes NOT to argue with them!!

Vive la difference, I always say. Makes for interesting reading, if nothing else.

Reading flame throwing post will dispell you of
the image of all cruisers being genteel travelers. The worst I've read was
a couple of months ago on the Lose Before You Cruise Board. A group of dieters dog-piled
on a knowledgable but opioniated poster that
was veomous to the point of being shocking.
That thread went on entirely too long and the
OP is now MIA. Come back LLinda, please.

Sometimes I lurk on other boards and chuckle at
the difference in flaming techniques. Try the
educated bunch on Raddison. They had a doozy
going a while back with one-up-manship that was
masterful in style.
