lettienets Posted December 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2008 Nobody lately has said anything about Dutch night. Is it still being held or has it disappeared?
grandgeezer Posted December 14, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2008 We just got off the Oosterdam yesterday and we did not have a Dutch night. There wasn't a Chocolate Extraveganza either.
Rare Copper10-8 Posted December 14, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 14, 2008 Nobody lately has said anything about Dutch night. Is it still being held or has it disappeared? It's pretty much been downgraded compared to the "production it used to be. They still serve some of the items but no longer do the wait staff dress up in Dutch costume and is the dining room decorated in Dutch colors. The "Dutch" hats are also a hit an miss. The Chocolate Extravaganza (in a lesser form) is now a part of the "Deck/Pool Party" on Lido Deck

Krazy Kruizers Posted December 14, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 14, 2008 It has been the better part of 3 years since we had a Dutch night on any of the ships that we have been -- which has been quite a few. Dessert Extravaganza gone as we all used to know it -- now there is a pool party around 9 PM which has a scaled down selection of desserts. BUT -- on our recent Eurodam cruises -- Bami Goreng was back -- which DH loves. :D
YesIAmAPyr8 Posted December 14, 2008 #7 Share Posted December 14, 2008 We had no Dutch night on the Oosterdam in Alaska in '06. As the grandson of a Dutchman who emigrated to the US on the Nieuw Amsterdam in 1923, I quite enjoyed the nod to the history of the Cruise Line on Dutch night when we sailed on the Westerdam a few years ago. My grandfather's brothers were rubber plantation owners in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) prior to WWII. The history of HAL is one of the reasons I have found past cruises to be a great experience. I am sorry if the Dutch and Indonesia nights are gone... lettienets Posted December 14, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted December 14, 2008 We had Dutch menu items and hats on the SA/Antarctica cruise on the Rotterdam Jan-Feb 2008 but it seems like it is disappearing.
andeesue Posted December 14, 2008 #9 Share Posted December 14, 2008 Last July we had the Master Chef's Dinner (I believe that was what it was called) that probably took the place of the Dutch dinner. It was entertaining the first time, I don't know how I'd feel as a repeat cruiser. I did enjoy the meal and the special dessert was great.
