cjgrammy Posted April 6, 2004 #51 Share Posted April 6, 2004 Hi Danno: We went to Bermuda two years ago late in August, into September, on the last season of the Pacific Princess (the old "Love Boat"). It was rough the first night, but after that it was wonderful. The first day that we hit St. Georges, we went to Tobacco Bay for swimming. It was wonderful. This time I think we will try Fort St. Catherine's. The water was so warm. What date were you thinking of going? We are a group of 10 or more people going from New Jersey. We have been posting on the Roll Call Board, but we cannot find anybody that is going to Bermuda on this trip.(9/18/2004) Hope this helped a little. Danno Posted April 6, 2004 Author #52 Share Posted April 6, 2004 We have a tentative date ...Oct 02/04. My wife is quickly seeing the error of her ways and seeing the wisdom of my proposal. Just as well, if she had turned me down I was going with the girls out of Norfolk (that's in Virgina you know). Truth be known they sound like a pretty fun group!! I may live to regret my wife agreeing to come along . safein Posted April 7, 2004 #56 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Danno,Danno, Danno......... Don't let those gals cruising out of Norfolk sway you! There's nothing like cruising out of NY Harbor on the way to Bermuda. Once you pass under the Verazzano, look to the right and wave! That's Staten Island!!! I'll check out the Bridge cam and wave back! Seriously, there are several ways you can get from the airport to the pier. LGA isn't exactly my first choice of NYC airports to fly in and out of. Newark is much closer. Then there's always JFK which as big as it is, I still prefer to fly in and out of NYC. Taxis aren't the cheapest way but emphasize that you want the most direct way to the cruise pier. Make sure you do get a receipt from the cabby. It should have the driver's license number on it if you feel you are getting overcharged. Let us all know what you finally book! Anita And now Infinity 2005! Danno Posted April 7, 2004 Author #58 Share Posted April 7, 2004 The official "okey dokey" has been obtained from the minister of travel (the wife!!) so now begins the ordeal of clearing scheduals, booking days off, picking a cabin etc, etc, etc. I have never put together two cruises at once...it's a bit daunting!! Should have it official within the week...just hope my passports are back by cruise date. Unfortuneatly to get my passport renewed I had to send in my orginal birth certificate so now I can't travel out of country for however many months it takes to get it returned...not a great system. Danno Posted April 7, 2004 Author #60 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Lois...I just viewed your guest book and frankly you folks look a little too wild for this shy Canadian boy!! I would hate to return from a cruise with my virtue ruffled . People might talk!! Thanks for the encouragement all...I just hope I haven't overlooked a road block that may set aside these plans. As to the weather...if I had to spend a week in Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland or Maine on a great cruise ship...so be it, we would still have a great time. DUCK33 Posted April 7, 2004 #62 Share Posted April 7, 2004 danno let me just clear up something saein mentioned (respectfully of course). i too prefer newark (ewr) over the othe 2 ny are airports. safe mentioned "its closer" so there is no confusion its closer to safe's home on staten island not to the pier in nyc. safe i didnt mean to step on your toes but danno's from canada and i thought he may have misunderstood. as for jfk i have a personal dislike for the airport (having been stuck there for 2 days last aug on my way to a med cruise i never got to )
Danno Posted April 7, 2004 Author #63 Share Posted April 7, 2004 If I get the choice...what airport would be the best given my needs?? Dan Century X1,Galaxy X2,HorizonX5,VolendamX1, Zenith Oct/05 (hoping!!) Century Feb/
DUCK33 Posted April 7, 2004 #64 Share Posted April 7, 2004 if you book through x then they provide transportaion to the pier so it really doesnt matter. if you do it on your own i would say lga, jfk, newark in order of preference. the cab from newark is most expensive since its the furthest and there are tolls involved. that said check arrival and departure times of each airport to suit your needs. Danno Posted April 7, 2004 Author #65 Share Posted April 7, 2004 I would usally let X book my air but in this case there is a HUGE difference in price...about $700 per couple!! LGA works fine with Air Canada (assuming the exist in 6 months)lots of flight options and a short direct flight, so I guess I'll be cabbing it. Thanks DUCK...nice having someone on the "inside"!! SJ Posted April 7, 2004 #66 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Danno, I'm originally from NYC and love the Bermuda itinerary. I have have also travelled in late September(2003) and early October for cheaper rates. Even though there was a hurricane last September, it is incredibly rare. That was the first one in 50 years. There really isn't a hurricane season for Bermuda. Temperatures are at least in the high 80's if not higher in the fall. Bermuda is an island where you can get around by yourself. The most convenient island in my opinion and very safe. Buses and taxis and the ferry are right in front of the ship. Even if you miss the ship to St. George, just hop on a bus or taxi to meet up with it. As for the lack of entertainment onboard, you can always find some on your own on the island since the ship is anchored overnight. Plus there are so many attractions to visit and experience on the island, 3.5 days is not enough. Have a great time! I can't imagine you won't.
