terrymtex01 Posted July 3, 2009 #128 Share Posted July 3, 2009 Alpmac, thanks for all of the info you have posted on CC about your beautiful island. We will be there this coming Nov and can not wait. We were so looking forward to Harrisons Cave, however with it now being closed during that time, thanks to you, we have pretty much decided to visit accra beach. Love all of your photo's especially the monkeys in your back garden. Will they let you hand feed them fruit? Or will they not let you get that close? We feed wild rabbits in our back yard, not as exotic as your monkeys, but we love them anyway.. 8-)
Aplmac Posted July 3, 2009 Author #129 Share Posted July 3, 2009 Love all of your photo's especially the monkeys in your back garden. Will they let you hand feed them fruit? ===> no no.. Or will they not let you get that close? ===> Oh no! None of that touristy stuff for them! Although my daughter once lived in an area where the young ones were tame enough for that. One afternoon we were in the living room looking at Rebecca's science project and when we looked back for some reason there was Joey the young monkey also checking her science project -right there in the living room! So it does happen, but only on rare occasion! .
morecruise4me Posted July 9, 2009 #130 Share Posted July 9, 2009 All these beautiful pictures are making me want to go NOW! We won't be cruising until next Feb. so I'll have to make do until then :( The monkeys look so cute, but do the monkeys ever get to be a problem for you? Before we moved to WV, we thought having deer in our yard sounded wonderful. After 11 years of them eating just about anything I try to grow, I'm not quite as enamored with them. Aplmac Posted July 9, 2009 Author #131 Share Posted July 9, 2009 The monkeys look so cute, but do the monkeys ever get to be a problem for you? No, they only briefly transit my area. Local farmers can have problems with them in Dry Season when they're seeking moisture content from anything they can get their little hands on (no puddles around to drink from and local bars and shops don't accept monkey credit-cards,sorry).. :D . sunseeker09 Posted July 16, 2009 #132 Share Posted July 16, 2009 Aplmac - Love all your pictures all over CC, but these ones of Barbados take my breath away. Bottom Bay looks so gorgeous! Barbados will be a beach day on our Jan. cruise for sure :)

lel5344 Posted August 4, 2009 #136 Share Posted August 4, 2009 Aplmac, If we may trouble you... I was reading this morning from a travel guide about your beautiful homeland and I mentioned to my wife that Orchid World sounded like a wonderful place to visit. The same travel guide indicated that buses on Barbados are frequent and inexpensive. So, putting the two together...is there a bus we can take from the cruise terminal area that will get us to and from Orchid World. Do you have any details or is there a website you can direct us to that will give us the scoop? We have been staring with awe at your photos (as well as the photos of other posters) of Antigua and barbados, 2 of our ports of call on our next cruise. You heighten the anticipation and we are grateful for the generosity you show in sharing your photos, your time and your knowledge!
Aplmac Posted August 4, 2009 Author #137 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I mentioned to my wife that Orchid World sounded like a wonderful place to visit. ===> It is. The same travel guide indicated that buses on Barbados are frequent and inexpensive. So, putting the two together...is there a bus we can take from the cruise terminal area that will get us to and from Orchid World. Do you have any details or is there a website you can direct us to that will give us the scoop? IF there's a bus that passes that way, it will most likely be infrequent (hourly at best).Inland-country routes are not as well serviced as the South and West coastal routes. Orchid World is on Golden Ridge, so you want the route that goes up Gun Hill, does Golden Ridge, on its way out past Pool Pltn. to St. John's Church - that's the one to take! This is where you get off! Barbados Transport Board has a website: - that's the Gov't. run bus company so click on http://www.transportboard.com/ and see what you can find. better yet is.. http://www.transportboard.com/services.php ____________________________________________ This looks to be the most likely one... I selected their Sargeant St. option --and came up with... Route Route 7 Running Time: 60 minutes Outbound: from the..Fairchild Street Terminal, Highway 6, River Road, Martindale?s Road, Halls Road, Globe Round-a-bout, Tweedside Road, Fairfield Road, My Lords Hill, Belle Gully, Salter?s, Charles Row Bridge, Valley, Walkers, Taitt Hill,Gun Hill, Gun Hill Signal Station, Newbury, Golden Ridge, Four Roads, Pool, Gall Hill,St. John Church, Cliff Cottage, Coach Hill,Bath, Sargeants Street, Codrington College, Sealy Hall, Palmers Corner, Fortescue _________________________________ If you're on Facebook.. there's an Orchid World special interest group there at URL.. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=65997201853 where I have some pictures... I hope this helps? .
DrmnOfMaui Posted August 4, 2009 #138 Share Posted August 4, 2009 We made it to Barbados and are already (sadly) back home. Our day was spent on the Shasa catamaran excursion, so I don't really have photos in the way of scenery, but this was one of my favorite from the day. Jason (of Shasa) sailed us to our sites (snorkeling and turtles) and we had a fabulous day!! Here's one of my daughter enjoying her day in the water!
