Wow, again Aplmac, you're pictures are fabulous! I will seriously have to take a vacation to Barbados only, so I can experience the beauty of it that is in all these pictures!!! Simply beautiful! Whenever that is, I hope to possibly meet you and your wife!

I didn't forget my good camera, my husband did! ;) He has a Cannon Rebel something. He loves getting good pictures but with the case and all the lenses, he doesn't want to get it messed up or stolen.

PS: How often do you go to other islands? Do you cruise to them or is it a simple boat/ferry ride?......Nevermind, I just read your "Most memorable Dominica pictures" and learned a little more about you.

Tell him that wide-angles tend to get more memorable shots than teles.

If I had to walk with just one lens on my camera

it would be the Sigma super-wide zoom 10-20 mm. range

  • 2 weeks later...

I looked at your album-great pictures-they made me so want to be cruising.lol.

Now where was that great picture taken-looks like a cave?????I went and looked at the whole vacation.

What a wonderful, wonderful day we had in Barbados! I am now researching for the perfect place for a pre-cruise stay on my new favorite island! Suggestions gladly accepted.

I am barely half done posting the pictures! The ones in the cave were Titou Gorge on Dominica. But my favorite day by far was BARBADOS!

-- I thought perhaps it was Sandy Lane??? ===> I woulda said so?

It's on the Sandy Lane/North side of Paynes Bay.

About a quarter mile further North(difficult going thru trees) you'll get to Sandy Lane.

Although Sandy Lane Bay is nice alright

it's pretty much about the same as any of several West Coast bays

so don't knock yourself out for it.

If/when you get there, you'll discover the prices are horrific

Thanks for the info!! You are always so helpful. Guess I should have indicated Sandy Lane. :p

We're going to do the turtles at Payne Bay and then have been searching for a beach on the west/south coast that has a lot of palms and chair rentals. Needham's Point looks nice, but as it is Hilton's beachfront -- do they frown upon people using it? (We could always eat lunch at their restaurant...) Have also looked at Mullins/Gibbes on the West, as well as Worthing on the South. Do you know if any have a lot of palms--a more pretty beachfront than the actual water?

Since you're already a ways up the West Coast at Paynes Bay

it may make sense to continue North to Mullins/Gibbes

rather than crossing suburbia/Bridetown -it's just simpler

and about ten mins. away from Paynes Bay. ;)

Thanks for the picture!!

Is this part considered Mullins or Gibbes? Which has more palms??

This picture shows Mullins.

Gibbes is around the distant point, in the picture.

........................................

What is it with the palms?

Are you chasing an advertising dream-image?

You may be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Methinks you're not going to find that Dream Setting

unless you make it out to Bottom Bay

and that's not easily do-able for cruisers with just a few hrs. ashore.

Most of our beaches have a few coconut palms scattered here and there

but that's about it.

Photographers can make it look like there's a lot but...

Another thing: don't sit under them

unless you look up first, to check out the load they're carrying -or not!

People have been hit by falling nuts, and hurt badly!

Be warned!

Yes, you can get a taxi from the Port to Rockley Beach

It's about 3?miles / 15-20 mins. away from the Port

depending on the traffic du jour. ;)

Aplmac,

I also have a few questions for you. We will be in Barbados for the second time in November. The first time we did Silvermoon catamaran tour which was fantastic. However, we didn't actually get to see "the island" as we were on water all day.

So, is there a map somewhere?? Can you give me any kind of general idea of the size of the island. Where and how far is doable in one day. We would like to visit a beach, probably Accra after seeing these photos, but don't want to spend a whole lot of time there. Would also like to visit some of the churches. We are from a strong catholic background, so we always love stopping at churches.

Can you give me an idea of the island/ thanks
