I hate the fact of a cruise line charging extra for something that is included in the price. Don't nickel and dime me. If they want to charge more for the total price of the cruise then do so. This even annoys me that they charge for fuel surcharge. I know they are withdrawing those charges for now but wait the price of oil is going up again and guess what, you guessed it. It'll be back.

I am glad to see so many people putting none-of-the-above as their response. I agree, I am also in the none-of-the-above category. I don't see anything worth paying extra money there. i already spend money on the excursions, the casino, alcohol, occasionally the specialty restaurant. I certainly don't want to get nickle and dimed in the other areas.

I don't want to spend the big bucks on a luxery line like Crystal, but I certainly do not want to sail el cheapo cruise line either.

YOU'RE THE MAN!!!!

I do pay extra. Sail more than 10 days. Avoid holidays. Try to avoid extra special deal cruises. On the cruise I try to schedule/re-schedule my day around the crowds. And I pay for at least a mini-suite, any problems-I go to my room.

however, we did book the grand princess and it really does have too many passengers for it's design. I recently sailed NCL pearl, I was concerned about the amount of people on board, (because of a past trip on the grand) but it was large enough to accomodate everyone...so it seemed. Although the 5 day portion of my 14 day back to back was EXTREMELY WHINY!!!!!

If you don't want to pay for extras - don't get them!!!

why should we all pay more so that some people can get the extras they want for free. If I drank a lot of alcohol I would stay at an all-inclusive resort that includes alcohol. but I do not drink alcohol so why should I go to one?

I would LOVE to be able to pay extra for certain things, like an espresso machine in my room.

oh well, we all have different perspectives. I plan to write down everyone of my complaints and spend our entire MG whining to Rico!!! Then, I will find the biggest whiner on the ship, give him Rico's room number, and tell him that Rico is a secret shopper for Princess and that he has the pull to make things right:eek::D

I'm in the none of the above group, plus...

  • No extra charge for cranberry juice for breakfast
  • No extra for an Italian meal
  • No extra for a good steak
  • No extra for decent coffee
  • No extra for a scoop of plain ice cream (toppings extra OK) during the day

And yes I would pay a little bit more reasonable cost for the cruise fare.

I would pay extra for a whiner free cruise- like if you whine about something you get fined and that money is spread back as a rebate to the rest of the cruisemate's!!! I get so sick of whiner's like the elevators are to slow, take the stair's people!!!!!! My GOD you are on vacation relax.

Then in tender line complaining its taking so long---dang I bet your friends scooping snow would just love to be standing here with you.

Then there are the people that sit by the pool and WHINE about the kids in the pool splashing- come on its a pool and there is water somebodys going to get wet. Yes I have kids but they are older now-

So yes I would gladly pay for a WHINE free cruise

Your fellow cruise

Rico

Hey lets have a contest to find the biggest whiner

Love you Rico

None of the above. I figured that it was only a matter of time after cruise lines started offering special dining restaurants for an additional fee that they would start charging for other activities and events that were traditionally part of the cruising experience. At some point we, as passengers, have to say NO.

Another 'none of the above'...! Truthfully, I'd consider a slight charge for a cabin on the smoke free side of a CCL ship, as they still allow cabin smoking, but nothing else.. Should all be included in the original price..

From reading all the posts on this thread, I'm starting to wonder if I should try Holland America..:p It may be more to my liking, the older I get; BUT, I'm still a Carnival devotee due to pricing, which includes 'military discounts' for Veterans on most sailings!:D

I too, would like to see the 'specialty' restaurants go away, and the cruise line have really top-notch food in the main DR.. ALL included in the price..!! Good food is one of the major reasons we like to cruise..:)

I think it is ouitrageous that you just simply charge for everything except the air passengers breathe!!

I recall travelling in the 50's and 60/'s on ocean liners paying a full fare for allthe food and entertainment save for drinks which as you and I know are tax free at sea at very low prices indeed.

Now all you do is entice people with low fares and expect them to pay for everything which becomes a double or triple fare which is reasonable but which you people are too frightened to charge because all the ne'er do wells on credit c ards taking trips they cannot afford appear to be the kind of passengers you atrract.

I only sail the Cunard and only on transatlantic trips or legs of round the world but it would be nice to take transatlantic trips during NON HOLIDAY PERIODS on cruises to Europe and the Mediterranean when the howling darlings are at school.

None Of The Above. But hey, if the cruise line is gonna charge us for stuff, how about we get a rebate for things we don't like and don't use.;)

For me the list of rebates is:

1. the spa - I can get massages and pedicures cheaper at home with no sales talk! and from someone who knows my preferences

2. the casino - too cheap to gamble

3. the art auctions - do people really buy this stuff?

4. the shops - ditto! We need more sundries and basic stuff that we forgot to pack

5. Kid programs - I don't have kids, but on second thought, the programs should keep kids out of our hair

6. Photographs that are discarded. Photograhers can be so annoying, and then the photos are so expensive we don't buy them.

I would and do pay extra for reasonably priced bottles of liquor to drink in the cabin. Princess and HAL are reasonable.

I also don't mind paying for laundry service, nor do I mind paying a higher price for a balcony cabin.

Cruising remains a good value, if one is a canny spender.

Absolutely nothing on this list! And really, why do the cruiselines think that paying for ice cream is merited? It's ice cream for goodness sake! It should be included in the price of the cruise. It's getting ridiculous and I agree with others who say all-inclusive land vacations may be in my future. sad : (

Thanks to everyone who has voted! Perhaps you understand why I specifically left off the "none of the above" option -- you'd all click it and then the poll wouldn't be very interesting at all.

I posted this poll because I think it's interesting how people complain about cruise lines nickel and diming us (and rightly so -- I'm right there with you all), yet when a line like Royal Caribbean implements a fee (like the room service charge), many people sigh and say they'd rather it be free but will bite the bullet and pay the charge rather than stop getting the service. So I was curious what you all would pay for if it stopped being free (or became a new, yet extra-cost option) and what you only will use if it's included in the cruise fare. For example, I go to the shows because they're free (and it's my job) but probably wouldn't pay extra for most of those performances.

I love iowa cruiseman's idea of a whining fee. And to add my two cents, I would definitely pay a surcharge for an all-vegetarian section of the buffet. Granted, I think the cruise ships should offer more veggie-friendly selections for free, but it's worth my money not to have to ask about ingredients every time I want a quick meal!

i didnt vote because i didnt see the option i would choose which is none of the above- lol

guess i am easy going and the main part of cruising thats fun to me is being on the ship period ( in a balcony cabin) all the rest is just extra- so i wouldnt pay for any of the options listed- we pay for our cabin, spec rest., drinks, gambling and thats enough to make our cruise!!!
