Just booked Celebrity Century- info appreciated

I just got off the Century on Thursday! We had a great time.

 

Drinks ranged from about $7 (pina colada & margarita) to $12 (martinis). I really didn't find it any different from having drinks in a bar/restaurant at home.

 

In Ocho Rios some of our group did the Dunn's River Extravaganza and others did the Kayaking trip. We all had a blast. I would recommend either one. The two youngest did the Bobsled tour and the zip line tour (they're both 17 1/2). We all ended up at Margaritaville and stayed there until it was time to get back on board.

 

We missed our stop in Grand Caymen and went to Key West instead. On a previous trip we did the Stingray/Snorkle trip with Soto's Cruises and had a really good time. We also did the bubble sub one cruise (pricey but worth it). I did hear from some people who did the Atlantis Submarine that they were very disappointed (and I've heard that a couple of different cruises). I've never done it myself so can't comment personally, just what I've heard.

beebell- as the previous post asks, are there "price specials" that come along with the "drink specials"? ;)

 

 

The daily specials are in the $5.00 to $6.00 range IIRC. One night the apple martini was a special so I ordered it--same martini, just in a much smaller glass. I should also say that the full price martinis. $8.50-$10, are HUGE--I like to say that martinis are like breasts: one's not enough and three are two many; but with these, one is plenty!! LOL!

And we definitely have our drinks of choice, but I am just dying to try everything onboard, especially the tropical ones and the martini bar sampler I keep hearing so much about! The drinking to us is part of the whole vacationing experience. And no, we're not alcoholics.... alcoholics go to meetings. ;)

The Casino is always happy to take your money;)

Oh, they have Martini Tastings...6 for 10 bucks served in miniature

martini glasses. Many folks think its not all that good but since its

your first time I would sugget trying it.:DI love it.

 

There is a Specialty Restaurant on board called Murano's.

It is 30.00 per person and worth every penney. They

have a separate galley from the main dining room. The food

and ambiance are absolutely fantastic:). It is really

an evening on its own.

(Oh you knew about that one...sorry!)

 

You said you live right near the pier? I would be booking

weekend cruises every month! (and I live up in Jacksonville).

I just got off Century this morning. Last year we were on the 5 day that you will be on, and have been to both those ports before.

What you have to realize is that everyone has a different opinion on various things. I had a cappucino at Cova Cafe and did not think it was worth the $4 price at all. There are 3 different drink specials each day, for $5.50. The martini sampler, if you enjoy all 6, are well worth the $9.95. I did not go to Murano's this trip because I was with girlfriends, but honestly do not think it is worth the extra $30 per person. It is not comparable to a top restaurant at home (although this may not be a fair statement because I am from NY, most sizeable cities have excellent restaurants as well). For dinner in the dining room, I enjoyed almost everything that I had, and did not feel the portions were small at all although others have reported this. If you order all the courses, you are not going to have a problem with the portion size, not to mention that if you want an extra of anything, they will gladly accomodate your request. I only made one poor choice, the stuffed flounder on the 4th day. As far as formal night goes, this year there were only a handful of men in tuxedos. Last year on the 5 day there were many more. Women can get away with almost anything, and did. There was everything from long strapless gowns, to simple black slacks with tops. The other nights were quite casual for the most part. It was somewhat odd because on the non-formal nights you really saw everything, there were people wearing dressy dresses, and those dressed very casually as well. It did not seem that they stopped anyone, although I did not see shorts in the dining room for dinner.

It's my understand that formal night is the second night of a 5-night cruise. We also have Murano reservations for that evening.

We thought Murano was excellent and well worth the $30. It helps if you like things a bit out of the ordinary, like foie gras. Excellent food with good variety, a great, well-presented cheese course, and a nice, peaceful evening away from the MDR madhouse.
