AlwayzCruising Posted February 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2009 I have heard of people getting on and off the ship before they leave from the embarkation station... Does this include actually going totally OUT of the terminal and exploring the area a little more before the ship has left? You generally have to be out of your room before 11 a.m. or so and then usually we go right over to the ship... We end up staying there for the duration until we leave the port... But, I'm wondering if I want to go out and get some soda off the ship before we leave, is this a doable idea? Or should I just either pack or carry on? Thanks
caribill Posted February 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Once you are on board, you are able to leave the ship and the port as long as you are back at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure. Depending on which port you are embarking, you may be close to or far from anywhere you get additional supplies.
paul929207 Posted February 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2009 The embarkation port is like any other port. Once you get checked in, you can drop anything in the room and then get off the ship. Just be sure you are back in time to sail
Colo Cruiser Posted February 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Yes you can come and go, just make note of the final boarding time at the gangway. :)
Sea Hag Posted February 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Surely you jest! If you get back off the ship, you might miss embarcation day zoo-time in the buffet! :D
Colo Cruiser Posted February 6, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Surely you jest! If you get back off the ship, you might miss embarcation day zoo-time in the buffet! :D Not if you go to the dining room instead. ;)
beckyjohns Posted February 6, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Is the dining room open for lunch on embarkation day?
FredS Posted February 6, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Is dining room open on embarkation day? yes and no, depends on the ship and often you have to check at the dining room to see if it is open, it may not be noted anywhere that it is. flycess Posted February 6, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Hi Fred! Have you two got any upcoming cruises planned?
AlwayzCruising Posted February 7, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted February 7, 2009 thanks for the great advice guys... We're leaving out of San Pedro... I'll have to do some more research to see if there is anything close to embarkation... But, one more thing, I should have asked before... is it difficult to get back through the lines for embarking? Or do you get to "jump to the head of the line?!?!" Obviously, once on the ship at embarkation, I have stayed there!! hehe.. Thanks again

serene56 Posted February 7, 2009 #12 Share Posted February 7, 2009 You can bypass the check in line-- although you still need to get through security
Id rather be diving Posted February 7, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 7, 2009 There is nothing close (walking distance) to San Pedro. We left out of San Pedro last year and could not believe how industrial it was. We bought water and other things prior to boarding but we were in a car. You can take a taxi but nothing is in walking distance.
DeepWaterMariner Posted February 7, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 7, 2009 We have actually done this twice that I can remember. Once many years ago on an HAL cruise on the old Statendam leaving from NYC. The ship had a technical problem and departure was delayed until 11:00 that evening. We treated NYC as if it was one of our ports of call, going off to the top of the Empire State Building. The second time we were catching a transatlantic on RCCL and the ship had just come out of dry dock. We were able to board early in the morning since there were no debarking passengers and then went back ashore to do some touring in Lisbon. The only problem was we got stuck in the security line when we got back to the ship with all the new embarking passengers.
