Late flight out of Fort Lauderdale - What to do with our luggage?

I will assume that we will be off the ship by 9:00am and our flight does not leave Fort Lauderdale until 8:00 pm at night. Has anyone had this problem? Can you store your luggage at the airport and take a cab to a mall or the beach or casino??? Any suggests from people who have done this before would be greatly appreciated.

There is a luggage storage at the airport in Fort Lauderdale in the same terminal as American Airlines. Not sure if each terminal has this, but there is one there, saw it just a few weeks ago. For a small fee they will keep your luggage for you until you are ready to check in.

Many people face this challenge.

There are many very easy solutions:

--Rent a car or van and keep the luggage with you. Drop the rental at the airport.

--Hire a car and driver for the day and leave the bags in the trunk.

--Get a day room at a local hotel and keep your bags in the room. You can freshen up there before your flight. You can share the day room with friends to keep costs down.

--Go to a local hotel and tip the doorman to keep your bags for you.

--Store them at the airport. You can normally check in about 3 hours before your flight.

Pardon my ignorance but my DW and I will be facing a similar situation for the first time. We were not aware of the airport 'storing' option!

So do we pick it up and check it ourselves before boarding or is that part of what we pay for?

Anyone? :o

You are paying the $6 per bag for a storage fee. When you are ready to check in for your flight, you claim your luggage from the storage area and take it for checking in at the counter.

If your are flying Southwest Airlines, they have a new service where you can (pay and) check your bags at the pier. Details are on their web site at http://www.southwest.com/cities/fll.html

For any other airline, see the suggestions in the other posts.

Thankyou all for the answers. I feel much better knowing we can store the luggage at the airport. Getting the dayrate room is also a good option that I hadn't thought of. Now what to do with the time....decisions decisions....

We had this problem in Barcelona. We stayed at a hotel the night prior to the cruise, and I asked them if we could store our luggage there on disembarkation day. They were happy to do so. And they were near La Rambla so we just walked from there.

So if you do store at a hotel, just pick one that's close to where you want to spend your time. A day room is also a great option if you can get one at a decent price!

If you don't do any of the previous suggestions, be warned they won't let you through security until you hit the 4 hour mark before your flight. So your stuck waiting and wondering around the airport in front of the TSA lines. The other options are a much better idea.:)

The last time we got off the ship in Fort Lauderdale, we opted to take one of the Princess land excursions. They took us out on an airboat in the Everglades (really fun) and to a wildlife park. Our luggage stayed on the coach the whole time. Then in the afternoon, they dropped us off at the airport. It was a great way to see some attractions and get our transportation later to the airport.
