OBC refunds

Last cruise I had some leftover OBC from TA and RCCL Visa that was refunded back to my card with no problem.

This cruise is different and complicated. I know I will have extra this time as well. The problem is I have it from an assortment of sources. Some are refundable and some are non-refundable:

RCCL Visa (my mistake in cashing in too many points) a Next Cruise, OBC from my travel agent & a fuel surcharge rebate.

In what order will they deduct my purchases onboard? Or are they all added together and I have to spend at least the non-refundable amount?

Thanks!

They deduct the refundable OBC first, so you need to spend your money first before they are giving you theirs.

This is IMO highly wrong and I´ve complained to Mr. Goldstein about this, but it´s the way it is right now. I have no problem with the rule change about non-refundable OBC that´s coming from their money. But I think if I get money refunded as OBC let´s say from cancelled excursions, that´s money out of my pocket and should go last and not first  or even better don´t give me OBC for it at all but refund it to my CC where it came from in the first place.

For people this actually happens to I would complain to the Florida Attorney General especially as it relates to the fuel surcharge. Remember he sued the cruise lines on the original fuel issue and they gave in. If he now found that they are refusing to return that money I think he will be very upset. Also, remember RCCL is based in Florida and most of you depart from Florida. Further, he might be very interested that they will not return "your money" when it relates to things like canceled shore excursions.

Here is the link to the online complaint form:

Carnival had been trying the same game and was only returning money if the passenger made a stink. However, last week on a cruise I was on, they returned all monies, including SBC earned by being in a group.

Recent post reporting return of unused OBC: Return of OBC (posted Feb 11, 2009):

Just returned from Independence. Had a $100 Next Cruise OBC, a $100 shareholder credit (both done before the Jan 1, 2009 change) and a $48 fuel surcharge OBC. Total of $248.00. Only spent about $229.00, leaving a balance of $19.00. Based on what I had read on these boards, I assumed it would be lost, after all it was only $19.00.

To my suprise, upon returning home and checking my credit card activity, I had a $19.00 credit from RCCL.

The assumption I draw from this is that RCCL is NOT messing with the fuel surcharge refund.

Okay, so I have $250 Visa points, $45 TA OBC, $35 fuel surcharge & $100 Next Cruise. To me, it looks like I am going to have to spend the majority of this OBC or lose it. The Next Cruise will be the last to be tapped into, right? Wait! I am really confused now! How will that work?

On our last cruise (january 09 - Jewel) we were able to get the fuel charge back in cash. We were not permitted to get back travel agent "gift", stock credit, on board booking credit. I did not use any VISA points.

The cruise prior (Decenber 08-Monarch)we had a samll amount of credit left and could not get it back in cash. We got it back at the casio, paying 3%.

Hi,

could you charge your gratuity to your on board account and take the rest ( of OBC) in cash for the cassino usage ( perhaps you will not spend all of it in the cassino), that should take care of whatever OBC you have.

Wes

they will charge 3% fee to get money from the casino but that would work.

on our Ex cruise last week lots of people got OBC refunds...we were given OBC from RC for missing San Juan....i had some other OBC but i really have no idea what they deducted from first....it was all just lumped into my SeaPass account as a credit and they just posted our purchases against it....

The cruise is next wkend. I will go to the pursers early in the cruise and find out how it'll work.
When you get back, please report back in and let the rest of us know because right now it's all pretty muddy so the more first-hand experience the better!

All I can decipher from first-hand accounts so far is that the fuel surcharge OBC appears to be safe.

Our cruise is next weekend too and we have NC, RCCL VISA and fuel surcharge OBC. I do plan on spending it all though. :D

I will try to inquire onboard about it too but I don't know that I would trust what I'm told. But then maybe we can compare notes when we get back.
