Why get off?

My DW and I are cruising to the Bahamas in April and I just can't get excited about the ports. Considering I don't cruise for the ports, but really for the overall experience, we're considering just hanging out for 7 days --- well, we might have to go see a Frog friend along the way......

 

Anyone ever just hung out before?

That is one of the nice things among many about cruising; do as you wish. No need to go ashore if you would rather not.

In our case however, we are port warriors. We are always off early and try to see as much as possible at each port. Just us.

There are certain ports that we won't get off on, but we normally book a cruise to see the ports as well. I like to have both of the experiences.

I still enjoy Nassau. But I also understand just staying on board. Having the ship to yourself. And no chair hogs.

In the Caribbean, we usually stay onboard - unless the port is new to us and is something that we want to see.

We love staying on the ship in ports that don't "do it" for us! The ship will be nearly empty, and the pool is yours!

Sometimes, we'll get off to wander around the port area for an hour or two, then re-board for the rest of the day.

It's entirely up to you, and whatever YOU decide is the right thing to do!

(After all, it's the SHIP you've paid to use! Might as well get your money's worth!)

Nassau is one of the few ports that we sometimes don't visit when the ship docks there as we've been to Nassau so many times over the years it's kind of been there done that. Should you decide to stay onboard, as others have commented, you will find many parts of the ship virtually deserted. Pretty nice really..;)

Staying onboard during a port call has its advantages. You have the ship pretty much to yourself, and for those so inclined, the spa runs specials.

Yes, we've done that in places we'd visited before. It's actually kind of nice on board the ship when most people are ashore. Very peaceful.

We have stayed on the ship inseveral ports that we have already been to. For me with most of te Caribbean ports, if you have seen one you've seen them all.

Those days are nice to get some pictures around the ship if you haven't and want to. Some of the ship pics I dislike the most are the ones with Port Everglades warehouses and cranes in the background.

do whatever you'd like...that my favorite part about a cruise vacation:)we always try to get off the ship but thats just our preference

eh2zed, I love the term port warriors--that's us, too. We love to see as much as we can, and find interesting things in ports we're been to several times.

When Monarch was still here (:() we used to always stay onboard in Ensenada. The times we did get off, we got back on as soon as possible, a couple of times only visiting the Mercado right at the port.

 

After a few years, since the cruise sold mostly to locals, so many people stayed onboard in Ensenada we didn't really have the ship to ourselves. I think if we ever have a port stop in Nassau again, we'd be tempted to stay onboard all day.

 

If we haven't yet been to a port, we will always get off. No use traveling to a new foreign port if you're going to stay on the ship :p
