1. Not to worry. I do not think they will have the new cards by next week. I am sure that your platinum card is waiting for you .

2. Carnival does change the cards once in a while. We have been cruising since 2002 and have seen 3 different styles of cards. It is just what they do ;).

In all due respect, if you would have taken the time to look below my post you would have noticed that I have been cruising since 1976. My first cruise on Carnival was in 1987. I realize that the cards have changed over the years. My comment pertained to the new cards that John Heald posted. They SUCK. Plain and simple! And after reading 14 pages of responses, I am not alone in my opinion. LOL.

I wonder if the genius that designed these new cards will come up with a new Platnium gift to replace that stupid Thermos they are currently giving out.

And certainly it would be wrong for someone to even have the slightest interest in being noticed!

Granted, there is a fine line between taking a little pride in ones accomplishments, and having it be your actual motivation.

Would we continue to sail Carnival if we did not get a "special" card (regardless of the design of said card :D)? SURE. Would we continue to sail Carnival if we did not have a list of perks associated with our continued patronage? SURE. Do I take a little pride in having others see my card, or feel a tad bit "privileged" to stand in the Concierge line? SURE. Am I, as are most others, put off by people waving their card around demanding attention and expecting others to bow down to them? NO DOUBT!

PRIDE is one of the "Seven Deadly Sins", though I am not quite ready to live like a monk - and some things, in small doses, are not inherently wrong! (IMHO ;) )

I don't know how much you drop on your cruises, but I am aware of the staterooms you stay in (the ones not even on the deck plans), and have seen the pics of your MANY 'perks'. Ya'll should get a card of your own personal design :D:). I'm available for adoption and will humbly accept the lowliest, ugliest of cards.

Looking back - I attempt not to (even mentally) actually add up what we have spent on cruising... and if you factor in the casino -

Meh, I could care less really. As long as it gets me on and off the ship, in my room, my drinks and most of all (when the time comes) the VIP perks, it doesn't matter. To me, it's more colorful and "FUN" which is what Carnival is all about. Just sayin'.

I can't open either of those links --- blocked. Oh well...

Those are not links. The very first post - on page one of this thread shows the cards that John had on his blog. Post #135 (the number in the upper right corner - next to the triangle) shows the cards that a CC member filled and proposed instead of the ones on John's blog.

If you can see this thread - you should be able to see those images.

Blocked at every turn. Can someone please cut and paste a pic in here --- please

I can email you a picture of the new cards, if that will help. Some services block pictures as viruses and such can ride along in the background.

When I first saw the cards I thought they went with the "fun" theme of Carnival. I am not platinum and thought the cards were cute. However, after reading this thread I can certainly understand how the platinum guests feel. I think it it important to take that into consideration. Getting to platinum is no small feat for some (it will take a long time for me to get there), and they deserve to be heard.

I do think the old cards are kind of ugly and "seventies" looking, but they should make the new gold & platinum stand out more.

Technically, because of the way some cruise lines have it set up, it is in fact, no big deal. They rewards number of CRUISES instead of number of cruise DAYS. So, in theory, I could book 10 3 day cruises and be platinum. Someone who booked 10 8 day cruises is just as platinum as I would be. Somehow, to me that doesn't speak to "being special" but that's just MHO.

Good point....I never stopped to think that could be the problem :o.

Mach,

Have you heard any additional word from John on the new cards? Just curious if anything new has been reported...

No, but I did just now hear from one of the World Famous Stephanies. I updated her on this thread... When I sent her the link there were 250 responses... now about 300...

They're collecting information. If you read John's blog you probably saw that many folks liked the new cards, probably 2/3s... I wanted the folks at Carnival to know that the Faithful here at Cruise Critic had opinions, also.

I'll ask John in the next day or so if there's been any movement on the card thingy...

:)
