In case you didn't notice, there are non smoking areas in all the bars / lounges. The casino is a different story, I thought there was a non-smoking area there too, but on our last cruise I didn't see one. I'm a smoker and I only smoke in the designated areas that I am allowed to, if you don't like the smoke, stay away from those FEW designated areas. It's bad enough that 90% of the world treats us smokers as second class citizens, if you don't like it, stay on your side of the ship! Thank you for letting me exercise my rights, now I think I'll go and have a cigarette.

It will be interesting how the cruise lines will react to the latest scientific data that shows that second hand smoke not only has long term effects but has a immediate effect on significantly increasing the occurance of heart attacks. Liability to long term effects of second hand smoke is the main reason most companies have eliminated smoking inside their buildings. I am sure the lawyers will have a field day with this latest data.

Smoking is permitted in all cabins. The have these ionizing machines that they put in the cabins to sanitize the air. After about an hour with one of those things running, nobody can tell that the cabin has been smoked in, unless some dummy burns a hole in the carpet.

The smoke detectors aren't that sensitive.

No, it wasn't meant as a joke. I do smoke and am considerate of non smokers as I can be. I always try and blow the smoke up and away from anyone near me. I never smoke in a no smoking area and respect the rights of non smokers to have areas where smoking is not allowed.

I am very offended by your comparing my smoking to peeing in the pool. icon_mad.gif

Smoking Policy

For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, the Grandeur of the Seas has been primarily designated as a non-smoking ship. However, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have designated smoking areas in the following areas:

Open deck #5 starboard side

Open deck #9 starboard side

Open deck #10 starboard side

Champagne Bar, Deck 4 (smoking Section)

Casino Royale, Deck 5 (Smoking Section)

Schooner Bar, Deck 6 (Smoking Section)

South Pacific Lounge, Deck 6 (Smoking Section)

Viking Crown Lounge, Deck 11 (Smoking Section)

Please ask your bar server regarding the specified smoking area in the bars and lounges.

Royal Carribean International Kindly asks all guest to please refrain from smoking pipes or cigars in any public areas. These requests are made to provide a comfortable shipboard environment for everyone.

I guess smokers may feel that there aren't enough smoking areas on the ship...but as a nonsmoker...I think there are too many...as I've said in my earlier post...there were several events taking place in the public areas that allowed smoking...bingo, etc. And if you think that a single open room with designated nonsmoking areas makes a darn bit of difference...you've got to be kidding. I like the pool theory...because that is the truth.

My 15 year old son approached me and asked if he could bring his best friend on our next cruise...after hearing about Jesse's great cruise stories, his friend asked if he could go on our next one because his family is not able to go on big vacations. I said sure. This boy has Cystic Fibrosis and I'm not sure how this will be able to work out...he can't be around any type of cigarette smoke...at all. His Mom said it is OK...because my husband is a paramedic and she feels better knowing that. But I'm going to have to talk to Mom about the smoking on the ship...because truly...On all 3 cruises...I find it impossible to stay away from it. Really a shame that one person's addiction has to be another person's problem. Flame me, grill me...I don't care...this is a subject I feel very strongly about. I've noticed a lot of comments from people in this thread giving the other side of things...people that I've always enjoyed on these boards...we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one I guess. Peace.

That is so strange. Every ship I have been on has the starboard side as the no smoking side. I have however gotten documents that listed the port side as no smoking. Once on the ship, it was just the opposite. I can see how some people would be confused.

I had no idea you were aloud to smoke in your cabin. We sailed NOS last July and will be back this June. We are "social smokers" (casino, lounge) our son has asthma and we nor his deceased grandparents or anyone else has EVER smoked in our house. My point is, they really do allow smoking in cabins? Without balconies? Not a fire hazard? Just curious because we had four atrium cabins last year and never detected a scent of smoke. Thanx, and I only smoke in the Martini, Champage Bars and Casino. Sorry it's vacation, please don't flame me!

Smell-intolerant non-smokers: you're too late! You could have voted with your cruise $$$ for a non-smoking ship. There WAS a ship exclusively for non-smokers - the Carnival Paradise. However, the ship could not operate profitably, and is now being moved and converted back to a smoking-allowed ship.

I personally am incredibly pi**ed off that the Paradise is no longer in operation.

Why? because then I could tell the people that would come INTO the smoking section to be rude to go on the Paradise next time.

If you don't like the smell of smoke, stay out of the smoking section. If it's too smelly over there in the non-smoking section, you don't have to be on a stinky old cruise ship, do you?

Stretch and Reggie - meet you there!

Hi,
RCCL does not have any smoke free ships. People can smoke in the bars, lounges, (on one side) in their cabins, etc.
The off limits places are the dining rooms, the theatre, Windjammer and several other places.
Carnival was the only company to have a non smoking ship, and it has, or will, sail it's last sailing because of a lack of people booking.

If it had been a newer ship (I don't care for Fantasy class ships.) I would have booked a Carnival smoke free ship. I would book a Smoke free ship if they had one on RCI

finally!! Wendy, Well said and totally agree... As I also completely agree with strech, THANK YOU....

How come all you non-smokers didn't cruise the Carnival paridise???? There was A non smoking ship and it didn't turn a profit...... Why? Because all you non smokers would rather complain on and about a ship that allows it... Stop your complaining already Go don't go, But don't think you will change RCCL's mind about it because you post it on the board as a question to RCCL.... Hello everyone...im gonna give MY 2 cents...smoking is stupid...just like some of the other people have said...But you have to respect the people that smoke, my mom smokes but she only smokes outside. Smoke really bothers me and it carries alot so i know where some of the people are coming from when they say that...But i think that when pay so much for a cruise or any vacation you should be able to do whatever you want to do. Smoking is fine on the ship. But could everyone that smoked just take the extra couple of minutes to walk up to an open deck and smoke?? People probably need too, that way they can go fishing off the side of the boat with their cigarette. And the smell of the ranch steak is just about as bad as the cigarette smoke so i guess they can bring that with them.

I AM NOT TRYING TO OFFEND ANYBODY WITH THIS POST. I AM JUST TRYING TO GET MY POINT ACROSS.

Just whip out your camera phone and snap a photo of the smoker next to you, then ask for their name and address so you can send them a copy of their 'good time'. When you develop lung cancer from second-hand smoke you can sue all of the people who have smoked in your presence for contributing to your impending death and decay.

Happy Sails,
Travis and Betty

Hmmm. this thread reminds of a song. It goes something like this: *Smoke on the water - A fire in the sky~~Smoke on the water~They burned down the gambling house...

I for one would not sail on Carnival's smoke free ship because after sailing Carnival once, I decided never again! I just don't care for Carnival. Some of you pro-smokers are coming across very badly. When people have an "it's all about me" attitude they appear to be selfish and inconsiderate. Bottom line, most smokers will end up with some health problems related to their smoking. People concerned about second-hand smoke have a right to be concerned, and to express that concern. Seldom will you find a non-emotional discussion regarding smokers rights and non-smokers rights. And here is my emotional reply- To tell people that they should have sailed on another ship, on another line, if they don't like to be around smoke is inane!

It's probably only a matter of time before the Cruise Lines go the way of airlines. No smoking at all. Mostly for the safety and well being of their crew and staff.

I didn't cruise the Paradise because it was Carnival. 2 of those were enough. My dad, my mother inlaw and my father in law all died of lung cancer directly related to smoking, as did my best friends parents. It is a disgusting smelling habit, as most smokers will attest to. My dad quit several years before he died of lung cancer (at age 62). I remember my dad, as we sat in a restaurant 1 month after he was diagnosed and 3 months before he died, saying--I wish I could go tell the smokers what they are doing to themselves, but I know that they would not listen. So just think what you are doing to those around you--those you hate (non smokers like me who hate the smell), and those you love (people like your children and your friends), who love you even tho you smell. One day, like my dad, you may realize that you really don't want to die at age 62, and that you don't want to subject innocent people to your smoke, thus contributing to bad health for them.
